Above the Stars

Aliens - unidentified species from other planets. We imagine them in every shape, form, colour and size, but have we really seen one with our own eyes? How can we be sure that they exist? How can we be sure that we aren't already being watched but don't realise they're there. When we're in our homes, alone... are we really alone, or are we being watched without being able to notice it? We hear about others who have seen or have been "abducted" by what they think are aliens, but we pass these rumours by without acknowledging them. We don't believe because we don't know. We don't see because we don't want to. We don't want to believe and we don't want to see what is right in front of us... until it's too late.

I used to be like you reading this. I never believed. I never wanted to believe. To me, aliens and other paranormal situations where just children's stories your parents would tell you to make you do your homework, to eat your dinner or to keep you safe from the unknown. Who would have thought these stories would have ended up being true? No one, but that's the thing. We are warned about these things, but never take them into consideration. These "stories" might just end up saving your life, as they did mine.

You're probably thinking why is this person talking about aliens as if they are real? To be honest, I wouldn't be writing this unless I deemed it necessary. If I was reading this, I would also think that I was mad. Perhaps I am... but I know what I saw, what happened, even if you don't believe me. The thing is though; I have to get this out, even if no one takes any interest in my story. Even if you forget about it the next day, at least you'll know about it, and know my warning.

What I ask myself is: How could one close encounter change my life forever? How can this thing, this person, change my life so much that I feel like my whole existence is wrong? That is what I constantly think about, that is what haunts me in my sleep. The possibilities beyond our planet and technology, what really lies in the universe?  My name is Elena Moon and this is my story.

It seems like years ago...

I grew up and lived in the Norwest of England with my parents, older brother Connor and sister Leila. Ironically, my home was in the middle of the countryside, nothing but fields for miles at the front and the large woodland we owned surrounding the back of the house. We didn't have any neighbours, which wasn't as bad as it sounded. The house itself was detached with three floors. The kitchen, lounge, small bathroom and dining area where downstairs, as in most present-day houses. On the second floor was my room, not very spacious but I could get by. There were also both my brother's, sister's and parents' rooms, along with the large bathroom occupying the left-hand side of the house. Sometimes the dog, Abe, would sleep in our rooms... I miss him. Finally, the third floor consisted of a large room that we decorated and used as a spare, but we never got many visitors. I was alright with that at the time though, mainly because I could use it for more personal time to myself, when I would want to stay out of my brothers' way. It wasn't fair how Connor was two years older than me while Leila was only a year, but still acted like they were the boss. I loved them though, they were annoying at a lot of times, but we stayed together.

I was never a social person; preferred my solitude. Sure I had friends, but I preferred to be alone when it came to studies and my general lifestyle. That reminds me, I was eighteen you see and was in College, studying to become a journalist, or a designer. I wasn't really sure back then, still aren't.

As I was saying, I was never very sociable, but when it came to it I could be. I was generally a quiet person, but could have a laugh with anyone. As for my looks, I'd say I was average. I wasn't a beauty like most of my friends but I definitely wouldn't call myself ugly. My appearance: mid-length brown hair with blonde streaks, pale blue (almost grey) eyes with a small amount of freckles above my cheeks with a scar on the left from an accident when I was younger. As for my height, well I was tall but not giant and I wasn't exactly thin, but wasn't big built either.

My brother looked like me, well darker haired and without freckles, though we did look similar. He also had an uncanny fascination with causing trouble. Funny at times but could easily get annoying after a while. My sister was different. She had black hair and green eyes, obviously inherited from my father. To my jealousy, she was skinnier then me and didn't have as many freckles, but was 10 cm taller so I couldn't complain. We got along well, but she cared more about her social life and friends then family, but I didn't mind.

My parents were everything to me. I was close to both of them and I know they would have done everything they could do protect the family. They did, although I wish they hadn't. It was because of their love, the love they had for us, for the family that ended with 'the accident', as Connor called it.

I was never completely alone, I wasn't always completely unsociable. I did have friends, well a group of close friends anyways. I had a group that I would continually hang out with at College. They were my closest friends and I would do anything to get them back, or to see them again. My family, friends, everyone! I would do anything just to see them again, but I know that they are safe living their lives, hopefully thinking back to when I left.

How much would you give up, to see what couldn't be seen? To spend time with someone who was but a stranger to you since the first time you met? Would you do anything for them? Be anything for them? Retrace every memory you have of them, just to make sure that one day they will come back for you? I would, I always would, I always will, I just wish I could...
It's supposed to be a science-fiction/science-fantasy/ kind of a romance later on type novel :)
Yeah this is a novel I've written or well the first chapter xD
Please no negative comments or whatever, its my first time writing something like this so :)
Enjoy and if you don't like it don't read it.
I own the novel & anything related to it.
Cover Image: Yeah the protagonist of the story (Elena Moon) is Emily Browning in the picture & the other main character (Gaius) is the actor who does HellBoy 2. I don't own anything related to them.
