Description

Luna Eclipsed is one of my favorite episodes of MLP: FiM, as it is themed around my favorite holiday (Halloween), and centers on one of my favorite characters: Princess Luna. It's not a perfect episode (Luna doesn't know what 'fun' is? Really?), but it is quite entertaining nonetheless. But poor Fluttershy, though. She definitely gets the short end of the stick in this episode, being genuinely fearful of Nightmare Night in general, and being forced into the presence of 'Nightmare Moon'. Her being another of my favorites just makes me feel for her all the more. By the end of the episode, Luna has learned that Pinkie and company kept fleeing from her because they liked acting scared on Nightmare Night, and probably assumes that's the case with the rest of Ponyville's citizens. But that's not the case with Fluttershy, of course, and the comic above is what I imagine might have happened when Luna discovers this. Note that Fluttershy shows no fear of being in Luna's presence at the end of the Canterlot Wedding, so they must have had some sort of reconciliation between these two episodes.

This comic is my 50th upload to deviantART. I had wanted to make something large and impressive for this milestone, and I think I have succeeded here. This took a great deal of work, and has been uploaded much later than I had wanted (procrastination is my mortal enemy), but I have managed to complete it nonetheless, and am very happy with the result.

Individual pony images were hand-drawn, and then vector-traced with Inkscape.
Background image was vector-traced from a screenshot of Luna Eclipsed, with some alterations.
Comic borders, text, and overall assembly were also done with Inkscape.

I already left you a small comment on this comic, but I later thought that you actually deserved a review.

First off, I really love the concept behind this. With Halloween being my favorite holiday, I enjoyed "Luna Eclipsed" very much. However, I feel my only problem with the episode was Fluttershy's scene. I mean, I wouldn't say that I didn't like it, but rather I was polarized by the outcome.

I think by simply changing the perspectives of the scene, it is very easy to view Fluttershy as the tragic character of the episode. She's practically having a panic attack throughout the whole scene, and is left terrified to the point where she almost loses consciousness. What makes her part tragic is that this was all that happened to her; she didn't receive any happy ending, comfort, or amends. As a result, we are left with the mystery of how this has affected her, or if she ever got any better.

Since Fluttershy is amongst my favorite characters in the show, I felt very sorry for her, poor thing. But I think it was that tragedy that really made this scene beautiful.

You were able to capture Luna's emotions perfectly with her dialogue. Having the princess herself come to Fluttershy's door to apologize really brought out the development and growth that the character has experienced. I also loved how you had Luna express her apology in the tone that Fluttershy "taught" her so as she wouldn't be startled. It also seemed that Luna was really able to feel for 'Shy by saying exactly how she knew she was feeling through her dialogue. You were actually able to show that Luna was truly sorry through the tears in her eyes, thus, having Fluttershy see that she just wants to be friends.

The end result: Fluttershy finds comfort and friendship with somepony she least expected. It really helped bring closure to "Luna Eclipsed". Having this connection with The Princess of the Night may even mean that 'Shy might have a brighter Nightmare Night the following year. Who knows?

As for the technique, I'll admit it wasn't perfect, but highly impressive for drawings. Fluttershy's body looks a little long, but that was the only nit-pick I could find.

Overall, the art was beautiful, the characters were well kept and the premise was very heartwarming. The only thing that can make this scene more perfect, is if it actually happens in the show. Well Done!
