Astrid and Hazyna were hand galloping across the field, the cold air stinging their faces as they flew along. Zena gathered herself up briefly, and leapt over a fence, then, a slight turn, and they were headed for the next.

For such a fast event, it was so... peaceful. Unlike dressage or show jumping, the spectators were spread out over the whole course, and due to the weather, there were less than at most competitions. Plus, there was something about snow that made the world seem so quiet and still. Subdued.

And so they went along, Hazyna still breathing easy and not having any problems with the terrain. They jumped over a wooden fence, down the embankment and into the water feature - startling a group of snow geese.

The geese seemed to wake Astrid up, the quiet of this snow day had relaxed her. But had she relaxed too much? They were having an enjoyable run, she just hoped they hadn't taken it too slow.
