Oh. No. He. Didn’t.

You knew you couldn’t blast him with your scepter, so you dropped it and tackled him to the ground. His hand was already on the box so it tumbled to the ground as well, spilling its contents.

Jack winced when his head bumped the floor. You pinned him to the floor so he couldn’t move.

“What was that for?” he asked.

“I warned you.” you said, defensively. You looked over your shoulder and spotted it, your most precious possession.

A bracelet.

But this was special. It was the first, and only gift that Jack had ever given you. It was made out of seven snowflakes, no one alike. You had once been friends with the winter spirit, and this was like the proof that it actually happened, at one point.

You dashed over to it picked it up gently. Quickly observing it, you didn’t find anything wrong. You sighed in relief. You grabbed the box you had been keeping it in, and gently placed it inside.

“Whatcha got in that box?” Jack whispered into your ear, his cold breath sending shivers down your body. You stood up and walked away a little bit, clutching the now closed box to your chest.

“Something that’s very special to me.” you admitted. “Why are you here.” you asked, turning your head to look over your shoulder at him. He scratched the back of his head, not looking at you. You thought you saw a hint of blush on his face. He didn’t seem to be able to answer your question.

“Well, it doesn’t matter why you’re here. You can help now.” you said and lead him out to the shop. He surveyed everything, and looked confused when he saw the pile of broken bows.

“What happened?” he asked.

“Pitch sent nightmares. I’m just glad they didn’t get to the arrows. We’re behind enough as it is.” You told him.

“Of course.” you heard him say under his breath.

“Well, no use crying over spilt milk. Now that you’re here, you can help!” you shot a sarcastic smile at him. “You stay right here, and when I get back, I’ll tell you what you can do.” you said and opened the door to your office.

“Hey  . . . [Name], I’m sorry. About your box.” he whispered out. You stopped for a moment, surprised by the apology. He hadn’t apologized to you willingly in a long time.

“It’s . . . fine.” you said and closed the door. You quickly stowed your box away in a new place(inside a bigger box). When you returned, Jack was in the exact same spot.

“Okay, so you’re on arrow duty.”

It had been about 5 hours since Jack had come and started helping. Most of the bows were fixed and you were almost caught up on arrows. You decided to quit for today.

“Good work cupids! Call it a day and turn in. Tomorrow we’re going to catch up on everything!! I just know it!” you shouted. There was a chorus of cheers and within 5 minutes, the entire place was vacant. Except for you and Jack. “Would you like to stay for cocoa?” you asked, expecting a smart remark from him, or how he was the winter spirit and cold plus hot doesn’t end well.

“Sure.” he said. You looked at him for a moment before leading him to your living room. You made some hot cocoa and handed him a cup. He sat on your couch and sipped, deep in thought. He opened his mouth like he was going to say something, but a cupid popped in and started talking to you.

You smiled sweetly at it, then turned to Jack. “I’ll be right back, cupids call.” you said and left. Jack waited a second before getting up and following you.

He thought he had lost you when he heard a heavenly voice. He followed it to a dark room, and when he peeked inside, he saw you, sitting in a room filled with resting cupids. You were singing a sad song, almost a lullaby, to them.

On my own
Pretending he's beside me
All alone
I walk with him till morning
Without him
I feel his arms around me
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me

In the rain the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me forever and forever
And I know it's only in my mind
That I'm talking to myself and not to him
And although I know that he is blind
Still I say, there's a way for us

I love him
But when the night is over
He is gone
The river's just a river
Without him
The world around me changes
The trees are bare and everywhere
The streets are full of strangers

I love him
But every day I'm learning
All my life
I've only been pretending
Without me
His world would go on turning
A world that's full of happiness
That I have never known

I love him
I love him
I love him
But only on my own *

You let a silent tear roll down your cheek, wiping it away and standing up. You looked around at all the faces of your cupids, peaceful in their own dreams. “Sleep well, my little ones.” you whisper and leave, shutting the door gently.

Jack had already left, returning to the living room and finishing his cocoa. Your voice had been so beautiful, so sad, and the words so touching that he had choked up. So he had left. Who had you been think about when you sang that?

His thoughts were interrupted when you entered the room, composed. “Sorry about that, they wanted a lullaby. Sometimes I feel like a mother to them, but I love them.” you said. You finished your own cocoa that was now lukewarm.

“That’s okay.” was all he said. He was acting very odd today. No teasing since he got here. It’s almost like back when you were friends.

“Are you feeling okay? You’ve been acting strange all day.” you said, sitting next to him and looking at him. He looked back at you for a moment, but then looked away.

“Change of pace I guess. It’s not like I can get a cold.” he said the joke half-heartedly. You giggled.

“Hey . . . um . . . can I, stay the night?” he asked. You were surprised by the request, but thinking about it, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.

“Sure. I don’t mind. I’m afraid I don’t have any spare bedrooms. So you can sleep in the couch, or we could share my bed. It’s plenty big enough.” you said, blushing at the thought of sleeping in the same bed as your crush. Jack blushed too, but you didn’t see.

“Sure. This couch seems pretty uncomfortable.” he said. You nodded and lead him to your bedroom.

“You can pick a side. I’m going to go change.” you said before grabbing a pair of silk pjs and going to the bathroom. While you were gone. Jack looked around. He spotted a low table that had many pictures on it. Looking closer, he saw that most of them were of you and Tooth. There were some of you and the other Guardians as well. But none of him. He was a little disappointed, and was about to turn away when he saw a hidden picture in the very back.

*Reaching over the other pictures, he picked it up and looked at it. It was a picture of him and you. You were on his back, arms wrapped around his neck, a smile on your face as you looked at the camera(which North had given you). He had his hands under your legs as he carried you, a smile on his face as well, but he wasn’t looking at the camera, he was looking at you.

Hearing the bathroom door click, he set the picture down quickly and sat on your bed. You climbed into bed on the opposite side and huddled under the covers. Jack did the same and the lights in the room went out by themselves.

“Goodnight Jack.” you whispered.

“Goodnight. [Name].”
