Winx-Nations: Pania

This is for a project called

UPDATE 2: The official rules are up, so here is a overhaul of the info to provide with the pic.

The oc I chose is Ashleigh Motou nee Velman. She is out in twilight, having a look at her favourite spot, the statue of Pania of the Reef, which is shown here in front of the outdoor stage in the background (not sure if you are able to see it behind her wings), before flying off home.

The reason why I chose Pania, is that it shows one part of the culture of New Zealand, which is the Maori culture (trust me, though there is a place who is HUGE on that culture, nearly every place has a Maori background, depending on which Maori tribes [yes, they still exist] live in that area). Plus it's really helpful for any gal (and guy) who LOVES the ocean, can come and have a look. Beyond the statue...is the beach. This statue can be found in the Hawkes Bay, in a city called Napier. And it's a really cool place to go to if you LOVE the sea. Plus this city is where Ashleigh was born and raised before moving to America.

The New Zealand Anthem, is called either God of Nations/God Defend New Zealand/The National Anthem. We have a lot of holidays, but the only National Holiday we have is called Waitangi Day, which is held on the 6th of February. Then there is regional holidays through out the year, depending where you are. We also have ANZAC (Australia New Zealand Army Corps) day (our Memorial Day) which we share with the Australians (hence ANZAC). Like Memorial Day, that's when we come together to remember the sacrifices that was made, as well as laying reefs. Though we do have parades, it's NOT all fancy, it's a march of remembrance to the cenitaf (sp?), then have the reef laying cermony. Some go to the morning services, while others make the LOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG journey to Galipoli (sp?) which is a landmark for the ANZACs.

Now bit of info about Pania.
Pania is actually a siren of the sea, according to Maori myths and legends. Long story short, she met a man, kept seeing him at nights and secretly married him. Though, the people thought he was crazy, he kept boasting about Pania (Pania had to go back into the reef before sunrise hence Pania of the Reef), all except one elder, who told the guy to pop in her mouth a cooked morsal of food, and she won't return to her people. So, he did....but he didn't expect her to wake up, before force fed the cooked morsal. Then she fleed from his village, back into the reef, and never emerged again, because of her husband's foolishness. Today, their child watches over the reef. One of his forms is a sting ray. The statue itself actually got taken a couple of times (I think), but is now back to where it is, where the reef is. Hmm....info about the country itself.....it has LOTS of sheep, is bi-cultural, and possibly have the cheapest one day con. prices for our only con (which again, we have to share with the Aussies)......and that's all I can thing of in the moment.
