Sauron Emerges

"But at last the siege was so strait that Sauron himself came forth..." (Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age)
This is my attempt to realise Sauron as he may have appeared at the conclusion of the Second Age. It's common these days to perceive him as an enormous armour-plated behemoth, but I wanted to emphasise that Sauron's personal entrance into the battle was largely an act of desperation. I wanted him to look intimidatingly regal, but primarily sorcerous rather than military, hence the robes, cape and crown. His greatest weapon at this time is the One Ring, hence its prominence. I was tempted to give him no weapons, but although he's described as having "wrestled" with Gil-galad and Elendil I daresay that is meant to convey a general sense of combat. It's typical to see Sauron with a mace or hammer of some kind, but to reinforce his presence as a would-be King of the Earth and master of evil lore I've decided to present him with a sword. The background is a little hastily done, but I wanted to give the last moments of the Second Age a suitably apocalyptic feel.
