Description

About the MOC :faint: Okay first off. THIS MOC WAS A TOTAL PAIN IN THE :iconassplz: AT FIRST! This is the MOC that prompted me to post this poll. Getting a body that I could build off of and armor around the "cradle" proved to be more difficult than I had anticipated when conceptualizing. Gweeb is another rare MOC of mine where I put some considerable amount of thought into the designs and concept before actually building it.
The inspiration hit me when I was working on Grayskayl and I found the printed part that makes up his face, and knowing I had the black cockpit that I could attach it to to make a full head. From there the "360 head" concept came about and I knew I wanted him to be a most unusual character. Gweebs color scheme was also inspired by the series of sets that the printed face comes from, the Stingrays that came out in 1998. Old lego part is old. :XD:
Early on I knew I wanted him to be a somewhat ambitious MOC after taking inspiration from :iconwelcometothedarksyde:'s Glideslope , making this the second MOC Liam has had a hand in inspiring(the first being Kutumah). However, I didn't plan for Gweeb to come out quite like this. I initially meant to make him kind of squat, almost to a point that he might have been wider than he was tall. But this was the end result. The original concept is also where he got his name, Gweeb, which sounds like dweeb(haha beat you to the joke :giggle:). He originally was supposed to have a huge Napoleon complex, but now I had to get creative about how to work that into his character. :P

Bio
Gweeb's original form is known only to himself and the originalHydraxon. He originally was a warrior of some type who betrayed his faction and was sent to The Pit where he was imprisoned until the Great Cataclysm destroyed the pit freeing him and many others. Like most who escaped, he was mutated by Pit Mutagen. However, his transformation wasn't for the better. The mutagen transformed him into a nubby little bulb of a creature. He became no more than a mere head with small stubby tentacles that barely allowed him to move along the sea floor.
For many years he scoured the bottom of the ocean in solitude, feeding off of krill and plankton. He was eventually found by The Barraki who he swore allegiance to. They used various remains of deceased creatures such as Maxilos robots and sea rahi to fashion him a bio-mechanical integrated body.
Gweeb became a part of the Barraki's army, training, learning to repair and augment his body, eventually improving upon it greatly. As Gweeb did this he rose through the ranks of the Barraki army until only the Barraki themselves outranked him. When the Barraki were reimprosioned by the Hydraxon clone(Dekar-Hydraxon) Gweeb broke off connections with the Barraki, taking much of the army that ruled under him to establish his own undersea colony away from the Pit and any other known underwater cities.

Gweeb is overall a bombastic, eccentric and self important character After being such a small miserable creature for so long, he built himself up to a state of grandeur. He has self appointed himself as Royalty, though his subject don't question his authority and there is never much rebellion in his faction. Those that are foolish enough to try and subvert him find a slow and agonizing death. Gweeb could be considered a "Chaotic bad" character. He doesn't go out of his way or send legions to fight "the good guys" like the Brotherhood of Makuta or Dark Hunters, but has done so when the alliance between either faction best suited his interests. Gweeb is mostly interested in keeping to his city and attending its welfare.
Within the boarders of his city, he does not discriminate between factions and often matoran, toa, dark hunters, Makuta and any other beings can come and go as they please. The city is mostly comprised of exiles or rejects wanting refuge from the wars and sqabblings of the world above sea.

    Weapons and features
  • "Deep Thrasher" (sword)

  • Dual Zamor sphere launchers integrated into his arm designs.

  • Spinning Propellers integrated into his feed design and head.

  • 360 vertical and horizontal head movement

  • Royal Armor consisting of a "hydroparent" fabric cape that reduces drag in water, and large energized should armor shields(that can be removed if neede).

  • Angler lure for navigating the deep when light is scarce.

  • Combat and abilities
Gweeb is a complex fighter in his unusual abilities to focus on a target. His abnormal head movement allows him to scan, locate, or follow targets, even if behind him. The 360 rotation of his head is often used for powerful spinning attacks without him becoming disoriented or losing track of a target.
His large body size does come at a disadvantage though. It makes him moderately slow in underwater or land combat. While usually reluctant to, Gweeb will remove his cape and shoulder shields for a boost in speed, maneuverability and to lower the obstruction of his field of vision on either flanks. The other distinct disadvantage to his large body is his field of vision is permanently largely obstructed from below him. In underwater combat he compensates for this by pointing his body downward.
Gweeb's body allows him to be amphibious so he can travel onto land, though he rarely does.
The most used tactic in gweebs arsenal is his Deep Thrasher, a sword he made himself. He uses it mostly as a melee weapon, and sometimes as a tool to channel energy attacks through. The hilt of the Deep Thrasher has an electrified field of current that if an enemy is struck with will be electrocuted in addition to being struck with the energized blades for additional damage. One of Gweeb's favorite attacks is to run the length of the entire sword along a combatant's body for a brutal and devastating attack.
After the Deep Thrasher, Gweeb will use his clawed hands or fists and legs for powerful attacks. In this style of combat is where he utilizes his large shiled armor in spinning attacks that can emulate the slicing motions of a blade. As the name suggests, he will also use the armor as a shield to absorb attacks.
Gweeb's Zamor sphere launchers provide two chances at an explosive moderately long ranged attack. Though once he's expended the two spheres, unless he's near more ammo, he cannot use them again, rendering the launcher as mere armor as he finds carrying additional ammo cumbersome.

Thanks to those of you that read all that. :typerhappy:^^;

Well, my second critique... Umm, I usually don't do these because I'm unsure about how good I am at evaluating MOCs. Anyway let's get on with it.
Wow, nice parts usage. I've never seen the parts you used on the head and shoulders. Plus you worked well with the Hero Factory parts that are so often despised. You also integrated them in nicely with the Bionicle pieces. Those Phantoka Pohatu arms look great beside the HF armor. The gimmick as far as I understand it works well, and is not intrusive to the aesthetics. So good work with that.
Now for the ratings. The vision is a four and a half, this is because it looks like the design evolved as planned, and integrated the head well. Moreover the color scheme of gunmetal, red and trans-neon green is great and applied evenly. The lost half point is due to the weapon not carrying the colors of the MOC well. The weapon is silver, red, trans blue, and trans-medium green. This collides with the colors of Gweeb himself.
Originality is lower because the idea of a warlord is nothing special, however the integration of bricks and head mechanism earned back some the originality points. Also the title of Lord tends to be used a lot. How about Count, Duke, General, or Master? However that's neither here nor there.
The technique is fairly common for your style, I'm mainly impressed by your use of the Hero Factory armor. That was well done so four points.
Impact, this is the fun one. Gweeb is definitely one of my favorites from you (behind maybe furnace). The styling, implementation, and originality of design are all shining points on this MOC. I personally think that Gweeb is among one of your best works, especially for a first effort. So great work Dave, I hope to see more from you soon <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="25" height="20" alt="" title="Hi!"/>
