You pushed aside the bear skin curtain and charged into the main hollow of the tree where the only other room was. As soon as you entered the room it seemed that all of The Lost Boys had felt it. Though each of them seemed to be busy with their own things they all stopped and simultaneously turned to look at you. Tootles and Cubby smiled openly with a mixture of relief and joy, while The Twins looked as apathetic as they always did, and Nibs gave you a mischievous wink when you caught his tired eyes. Slightly having already seen you was busy hunched over the small table having a hushed conversation with two glowing pixies. They were shining so brightly that it was hard to discern what they looked like from where you stood. You felt Peter come up behind you, but you did not spare him a glance. Your eyes were glued to the two shining balls of light that were placed on the table in front of Slightly. “You should probably meet your other saviors,” Peter’s silken voice whispered in your ear.

Peter reached down and cradled your hand in his as he led you over to the old wooden table where Slightly was sitting. He stopped just beside Slightly and pulled you closer to his side so you could get a better look. On the scratched and worn surface of the table stood two of the most magnificent creatures you had ever seen. The mermaids had been stunning, but even Titania herself couldn’t compare to the pint-sized resplendency before you. There was one man and one woman. The man wore a spiked trident like crown of pure gold around his head that was only a shade darker than the trailing locks of thick flaxen yellow hair that curled lusciously down to his slim waist. His hair was so bright and blonde that it looked like it radiated light. Hair like his would have looked feminine had it not been for the rest of him which just screamed raw masculine beauty. His face was notably Roman, all broad smooth planes with a high forehead and a rugged square cut jaw. Despite how full and lush his lips were, they were set in stern lines. His eyes were deep in his face and were the color of liquid amber. His skin was the kind of tan that seemed to shine from within as if it had been kissed by the sun itself. He wore a Grecian style white robe that hung over one broad shoulder while leaving the other bare, and that traveled in a skirted fashion down to his solid mid-thighs. Golden gladiator sandals covered his feet and wove their way up to his knees. Around each of his well muscled biceps were thick chunky bands of gold. The male pixie stood proudly with his toned arms crossed over the flat planes of his chest and both of his legs planted firmly on the table’s rough surface. His golden translucent wings flickered up and down gently behind him like the gossamer wings of a dragonfly.

The pixie woman beside him was just as glorious looking as the man was. Her hair was impossibly straight and it flowed like water all the way down to her tiny white silken slippers. The color of her hair was a glistening pure silver that was so fine it could have been made from a spider’s web. Her features were a complete counter to the ruggedly handsome man beside her. Her face was all delicate angles, with hollow cheeks and a small chin that came to a sharp rounded point. Her heart shaped face made her round eyes, which were the color of hard ice chips, look almost too big for her face. She had a narrow patrician nose that tilted slightly upwards at the tip. Her small rosebud lips were the lightest shade of pale pink. She too wore a Grecian style white robe, but hers was clipped together at the shoulders by silver crescent moons. The dress was pulled tightly like a corset over her small chest while the rest of the light fabric pooled freely at her waist over her willowy frame. Her arms were bare and you saw that her skin was the color of fine china. The only jewelry she wore was two glinting silver bands around her slim wrists. She stood with her arms cupped demurely in front of her waist and her chin was held elegantly high in the air. Her white wings were tucked down close to her slight body, looking as fragile as a moth’s. It was as if one touch would send them crumpling into ashes. While the pixie man had radiated energy and life, she held a stoic calmness that gave her a cold ethereal appearance. They both looked like they had stepped out of ancient painted murals of angels in heaven. Tinker Bell had been lovely in a rather earthly way, but these creatures were simply divine. The pixie woman turned her piercing gaze on you and her eyes were as hard and unfeeling as cut glass.

Peter cleared his throat loudly and said, “These are the leaders of the Light Faeries, Selene and Helios.” The male pixie, Helios, gave you a regal bow that made his wavy hair tumble like spun golden thread over his shoulders. The female Selene gave you the barest nod of acknowledgment. Not sure what was the proper etiquette for introducing yourself to Light Fairy leaders you gave a clumsy curtsey and said, “Hello, it’s nice to meet you.” Helios gave you an amused smile, but Selene’s face remained impassive. “Charmed,” she said dryly and her voice was high pitched like the tinkling of wind chimes. You were taken aback by being able to understand her. When Tinker Bell had spoken it had just sounded like the jingling of sleigh bells.

As if he could read your mind Peter added, “Faeries can adjust the ranges of their voices. If they only want to speak to each other then they use a frequency that humans only hear as musical sounds, but they can also adjust the pitch to where they can be heard clearly by us if they wish to.” That meant Tinker Bell had used her fairy frequency just so she could probably curse you out earlier… The thought was not a happy one. Slightly interrupted your thoughts on Tink when he said, “The Light Faeries were the ones that healed you. Their dust holds special regenerative properties. They gather their strength by the sun and the moon so their dust holds a special quality of life. When sprinkled on a human for instance, the dust heals and repairs any damage done to that person.” So that was why all of your wounds were gone and the pain in your throat and lungs had disappeared when you had woken up. Peter had said something earlier about The Twins begging the Pixie Courts for help and something else about you being showered in dust. It all made sense now. “Thank you very much. I can’t tell you how grateful I am,” you said earnestly to the brilliantly beautiful pixies in front of you. Helios spoke for the first time then and his voice sounded like the low airy notes of a wooden lute, “You need not thank us. We saved you only to save ourselves.” You didn’t have a clue what that meant so you looked around to see if the boys did. Slightly looked impassive while Peter looked down at the faerie couple like they were a couple of bugs he would like to squish. Not getting any answers from them you asked Helios directly, “What is that supposed to mean?” It was Selene who answered you though, “What he means is that we only offered our aid because if we didn’t the demon doppelgangers over there,” with that she cast a hostile glare over at The Twins who were too busy polishing throwing knives to see, “told us that Peter would refuse to fight Captain Hook anymore. Peter is the only reason why Hook has not yet been able to set up his home on shore. If Peter does not stop Captain Hook then he will take over and destroy this land which we call our home. We faeries can travel to your world, but we cannot stay there for a long period of time. If our homes here are dismantled, then we as a species will certainly die out. And make no mistake, Hook obliterates everything he touches. It would be the end of us all. We helped you only because we had to. So your thanks are not necessary. However do not expect us to help you again.”

Suddenly the pixies did not seem quite as beautiful as they had before. Sure their outside appearance was still exquisite, but their insides were just as hideous as the mermaid’s had been. You were about to tell them that you had not expected their help in the first place when Peter suddenly made an awful growling sound at the pixies. “Say one more rude thing to her and I will tell you what I don’t believe in,” he hissed menacingly between his teeth. You didn’t get it, but you saw the faeries blanch and shift restlessly. You heard a slight chuckling coming from The Twins somewhere behind you. It was Helios who gained his composure first and announced in his musical sounding voice, “We have healed her and stayed behind to make sure that she wakes up and remains well. Our job here is finished and now we should go back and report to the Courts.” Peter’s handsomely chiseled face was scrunched up in thinly veiled anger. “Then go. And tell your queen that what The Twins told them was correct. If anything should happen to this girl then I will let Neverland fall to its own fate.” Peter’s voice was low and completely bereft of emotion, making the threat all the more powerful.

“We understand,” said Selene and her moth like wings began fluttering as quickly as a hummingbird’s. Her tiny face was pinched and grim looking. “We take our leave then,” said Helios and his golden wings beat the air soundlessly, lifting him up in the air to eye level. Selene joined him by his side and they said something in the fairy frequency that sounded like wind chimes and musical notes. Then they were suddenly circling your entire body, raining glimmering white and gold sparkles of dust all around you. The dust felt like snowflakes instantly dissolving and sinking into your skin. Then without another sound they zipped off in shimmering blurs of light.

The pixies were gone and you had to say you felt all the more better for it. All your life you had wanted more than anything to see real mermaids and faeries and now that you had you wished you hadn’t. “Good riddance,” snorted The Twins in unison behind you with as much annoyance as you felt. You turned and caught their pale grey eyes. The three of you shared a silent moment of mutual understanding. You all disliked pixies. It was the closest you had ever come to bonding with The Twins and it felt nice. You smiled in spite of yourself. The moment over, The Twins turned silently and sat back down on the small wooden stools off to the side to continue shining their weaponry. You turned back around to face Peter once again. The hard lines of his face had smoothed out but his forehead still held a slight wrinkle of his previous irritation. You frowned at the sight of it, and asked what had troubled your mind earlier, “Peter, when you told the faeries what you would say if they were rude to me again, what did you mean?” Peter’s warm brown eyes glinted with a devious light and his lips pulled up into a devilish smirk.“Every time someone says they don’t believe in fairies, a pixie somewhere falls down dead. Usually it ends up being the closest fairy to the person who says it.” So if Peter had said he didn’t believe in faeries then either Helios or Selene would have dropped dead right on the table. It was a distasteful thought, but you decided to save it to use for later just in case. So far all the pixies you had met had been highly unpleasant and remarkably rude creatures.

It was at that moment that your neglected stomach chose to growl loudly for attention. You looked down at it in anger as if it had somehow betrayed you. You looked up only to see the ends of Slightly’s lips tug upwards in a reluctant grin. Peter chuckled heartily and called across the room for Cubby to fix you both something to eat. Cubby’s large frame maneuvered gracefully around the various furniture that created obstacles in his path to the makeshift kitchen. A quick look around the room showed that Nibs was passed out face down on one of the beds that were pushed against the far walls of the giant hollowed out tree. Peter had said earlier that he had been on watch all this time without sleeping. You were surprised his body had managed to last this long without sleep. His long limbs were stretched out across the expanse of the bed and he slept like the dead. Not a single muscle moved or twitched within him. You felt a pang of sympathy for the poor guy. Slightly had risen up from his seat at the table and had silently glided his way up the wooden staircase. You guessed he had decided to take up Nibs’s watch duty. Tootles was once again sitting cross legged in front of the small fire pit, feeding the flames some more underbrush to keep it going. His panda cap was gone and the kohl around his eyes was cleaned away. With his tousled jet black locks and wide light blue eyes he looked so very young. Tending to the tiny campfire he reminded you of a boy scout. But he was not a kid, not in the least. He had dived into the ocean and risked his life to save yours. He had done what some men could never have the courage to do and it was high time you thanked him for it…

Too be continued…

Authors Note: Hooray for faeries! Well maybe not these faeries, they weren’t very friendly were they? I actually based the two of them off of the Grecian deities of the same name. Helios is supposedly the God of the sun while Selene is the Goddess of the moon. I will unabashedly admit that the idea to use the name Helios came to me while watching Sailor Moon. Oh, how I love that movie! I wouldn’t expect any of the faeries in my story to be sweet and helpful like they are in the Disney movies though. Mine is a rather selfish and calculative breed. And it’s been awhile since I got to write about The Lost Boys. I’m looking forward to the next chapter because it’s mainly the reader interacting with them. Oh, how I love my boys…they are so much fun. I know I have geared in a different direction than the original story already, but be prepared for a future hard right turn lol. I haz lots and lots of plans for the future. Mwhahaha! You guys will just have to wait to find out what they are. Please look forward to the next chapter!
Much love to you all,
Fox
:iconverytiredplz: I am so tired…

My schedule has been crazy busy lately. I’ve been too tired to write as much as I would like. Instead of typing some of the story before bed like I usually do I have been watching Asian dramas and anime instead. (Panda & Hedgehog and Sailor Moon being the main culprits) But on my rare days off I am committed to writing. So I finished this chapter in a matter of only three hours. (that’s pretty quick for me haha) If there are any mistakes then that is why. :iconohnoestyperplz:

Aw I have to say Nibs and Slightly are my favorite Lost Boys
