Tomb Raider - Reborn - Pencils - Contest Entry

A contest to draw Lara Croft ... oh go on then.

I expect that the judges may prefer a full colour work but I always loved it when Top Cow ran black and white pencil versions of their covers when they held the Tomb Raider licence around the millennium.

The biggest challenge was trying to capture the expression of a young woman who is fragile and damaged as well as strong and determined. They are contrary emotions and difficult to capture and display in a single image.

The piece is drawn from my imagination without reference (with the exception of the assets pack provided for the contest).

Over the last few days of the contest I'll be posting images of the stages I used in creating this piece. I am always fascinated by the process and techniques other artists use to create their artwork. I hope that my behind the scenes images will be of interest to others.
