For those who haven't undertaken 'Urbex' before, it's hard to imagine the feeling of elation, mystery, suspense and a little fear as you venture into an unknown place. I tried to explain it for this fortnights article, but I couldn't get the words out. Urban Exploration is best captured by the photography that comes out as a result of the venturing. However I did stumble across this article which perfectly and quite succinctly sums up how it feels to venture out there to places that so very few have been before.

Being able to show off the places that have been forgotten is an amazing gift to have. Take for example, the image above. It's the inside of a submarine, a hunter killer, which was built in 1967 and used for training submariners in Libya, Cuba and India. How many people would get to see what the inside of one of those looks like? Without googling? Very few. Urban exploration is beautiful, the documentation of both decay, and history.

Urban Exploration is the exploration of man-made structures. Usually these are abandoned ruins, or components that used to be part of everyday life but are no longer seen on a regular basis by the human eye. This series of articles aims to highlight exactly what Urban Exploration is, how it's achieved and the some of the best Urbex Photographers here on deviantART.
