Group Updates
If you all remember earlier last month we asked for point donations in order to keep our supergroup status. I'd like to give a huge thank you to all of you who donated even if it was only a few points, we were as a result able to renew our super group status for an aditional year!
Aside from that I'd like to bring up a few things concerning submitting your art to the right categories. Some of the more common miscategorizations I've seen recently from our equine community are as follows:
Digital and Traditional Mixed Media: These categories are not intended for pieces that are both digital and traditional, they are intended for pieces wich were made with either digital mixed medias or traditional medias respectively. At this current time there is no category for digital traditional cross over pieces and you should submit such pieces into the digital or traditional gallery based on how much of the piece was made with which medium. A great article to read for better clarification on the Mixed Media categories can be found here:
Traditional and Digital Mixed Media Line Art and Character Reference Sheets: Did you know there is a specific category just for these in the Stock & Resources gallery? Well, there is and that is where such pieces should be submitted. Give it a browse:
browse.deviantart.com/resource…Adoptables: Yes, adoptables also have their own gallery. These should be submitted to
deviantART related> Devious Fun> Adoptables While on the note of galleries and where things should be submitted etc, the
communityrelations team is working hard on restructuring the current gallery tree and would love your input. For more information and to give your feedback on the galleries you utilize a lot, please check out this overview:

PMSingTigerWhen did you first start drawing horses? What made you start?I first started drawing horses when I was about six. It was after I attended my first summer camp that interacted with horses. I had been drawing many things before but I had never really drawn horses. I met a girl who at the time was much better at it then me and I wish to become as good as her. My passion for the equine form only grew over the years and I became better and better at drawing them.
When did you first start using copic markers to draw horses?I first started using Copics when I was 14 and I saw all of my friends using them. I was enamored by then and wanted badly to learn how to use them in a creative way. My first piece with Copics was “Legends” (my first attempt at it). It wasn’t the best and I need to learn some coloring techniques but I felt comfortable with the material. One after another I started illustrating with them until I became comfortable enough to start commissioning with them.
I have a tendency to draw horses more than anything else so it was horses that I mostly drew with Copics. My first attempt at drawing a horse with Copics I think was Legend.
Most equine artists nowadays use digital medium to draw/paint horses. Compared to digital art, do you think using copic markers is any harder/easier?
I have done digital art before and can say it is much easier to work with these programs than with any traditional medium.
What do you think is the hardest part when it comes to drawing a horse? The hardest part about drawing horses is the anatomy. I can say horses are one of the hardest things to draw right up there with people. If you can draw a horse you can tend to draw most four legged animals, at least that’s how I feel.
We've all made mistakes when drawing before. For digital artists there's always the handy ctrl+z; but for traditional artists, are there times when you make a mistake and wish there was an 'undo' button?
Of course! I always wish I could undo my mistakes. Every piece I make has at least one or two mistakes in it that I cover or just leave. The good part of making these mistakes it that I learn new techniques and how to avoid them next time. In the end it makes me better at what I do.

What kind of advice would you give to aspiring artists? To aspiring artists I would say “don’t be deterred when you don’t get it right the first time.” It takes me four or five attempts to get a sketch the way I want it, even then I make mistakes.
Can you share with us some of your favourite works from your gallery?I would have to say my favorites are “Legends”
because it took me so long and Commission 1-17-2012
and DreamCatcher
.
Theses pieces have a lot of time in them and I love them for it.
