Day 0 - Origin

“Thank you for coming, Doctor.  My name is Henry Carver, and I’ll be your escort,” the heavy man in the white coat greeted.

Patrick took his hand.  “My pleasure.  Where is the patient?”

“We have to go down a ways.”

As the two men walked into the elevator, Patrick stroked his white goatee and asked, “What is the situation?”

“Well, the subject appeared to be accepting the treatments.  She gained increased strength, speed, agility, and perception.  Also, her mental intellect greatly increased.”

“Wait, wait, she?  I thought the patient was male.”

“She was.  It’s one of the side effects.”

“Some side effect.”

“Doctor, please.  We are on the brink of human evolution.  One man’s manhood is the least of our worries.  However, she hasn’t eaten anything for the last three days and she refuses to participate in the exercises.”

“You mean experiments.  Don’t look at me like that; I won’t interfere.  However, I’m not exactly a specialist in helping people solve gender identities.  I’d be angry as well if someone turned me into a woman and did tests on me.”

“I wouldn’t say she is… angry.  We don’t know what she is.  That’s why we called you.”

“Very well.  Say no more.  I’ll give my own diagnostics.”  Patrick sighed; these government projects always caused psychological problems for the people involved.  Perhaps, he only saw the problems because it was his job to fix them.

The door opened and revealed many more people in white lab coats moving around importantly.  Henry led Patrick to a room with a window looking into another room.  It reminded Patrick of an interrogation room the police uses.  He took out a notepad and took down some notes.

“What are you doing?” Henry asked, “You haven’t even seen her yet.”  He turned to one of his assistants.  “Bring her in.”

“I like to write what I’m thinking.  I don’t really need to explain myself to you.”  Patrick wrote down about the environment, what he thought some of the problems might be, and how to fix them with his resources.  Patrick glanced up and saw Henry trying to look at his notes.  “Do you mind?”

“Right, sorry.  Well, Doctor, how long do you think this will take?  We hope to have this approved for further testing soon.”

“So you’re on a time table? Interesting.”  Patrick made some more notes.

“Would you stop that?!  How long will it take?”  Henry asked again, sounding very frustrated.  Patrick smiled.  He always enjoyed playing with these self-important scientists.  However, he did put the notepad away.

“Henry, the human mind is often a difficult and complex thing.  Can’t say that’s true about yours.  I’ll let you in on a little secret: I’m not on your side.  I’m on his… er… hers.  I’m not paid enough to be on your side.  I’ll do what I can to help her; if I help you, it won’t be on purpose.”

Henry looked like he would turn blue.  He opened his mouth to say something, but the door in the other room opened.  Two men in protective suits led the patient and strapped her down in the chair.

Patrick took a good look at her.  He was mistaken before.  She wasn’t a woman; she was a girl.  It looked like she was in her late teens, maybe seventeen or eighteen.  She had dark hair that was tied back and bright green eyes.  If Patrick was younger, he wouldn’t have minded dating her.  Despite being tied to a chair, she was calm and collected, as if she chose to be there.  Behind her eyes, Patrick could sense an unnatural intelligence.

“Why are they wearing suits?” Patrick asked.

“Ever since she turned into a girl, she’s been emitting a chemical.  You’ll have to put on a suit too.”

“She emits chemicals? What in the world did you give her?”

“That’s classified.”

“Of course it is.  Is the chemical poisonous?”

“That’s classified, too.”

“No, it’s not.  To me, the girl appears to be doing just fine.  Tell me, why they are in suits and why she’s strapped down, or I’m leaving.  Also, how long has she been a girl?”

Patrick could always read people well.  Henry looked uncertain.  He knew it would take a while to get another psychologist to get approved.  Even if Henry didn’t like Patrick, he was greedy enough to not let this chance slip away.

“Fine,” Henry said, “She changed into a girl about a week ago.  Some of the people who worked with her started to feel extreme attraction to her.  They even tried to sneak into her room at night.  After we did some tests, we found out she was releasing a chemical, similar to pheromones.  We moved everyone who worked with her away and everybody else was required to wear suits.  She’s strapped down because she tried to attack one of the workers.  Well, it was less of an attack and more of trying to remove the suit from one of the workers.  There.  Are you happy?”

Patrick patted him on the head.  “That wasn’t so hard, was it?  Good boy.”  Henry’s face started to turn blue again, but before he could say anything, Patrick said, “I’m going in there without a suit.  Don’t worry; I’m too old to be interested in her.”  He walked to the door, expectantly.  Henry nodded his head and the guards opened the door.

“My, my, you’re the first person without a suit I’ve seen in a while,” the girl said as she saw him.  Her voice matched her appearance; calm and beautiful.

“They didn’t have one that fit me.”  She gave out a little giggle.  It was hard to believe this girl was ever a guy.  “May I sit down?”

“You may.  I take it you’re my shrink.”

“I’ve been called that before.  My name is Doctor Hunter.  You can call me Patrick, if you want.  Or Pat, or even Mr. Doodoo head.  I really don’t care.”

She giggled again.  “Oh, I like you.  You’re the most interesting person I’ve met here.  I’ll call you Pat.”

“Likewise, everybody here seems a little stuffy and boring.  Also, dumb.”

“You know they can hear you.”

“I know.  I told them they were stupid before I came in here.  Before we start, what shall I call you?”

“Hmm, I’ve been thinking about it.  I can’t really go by my previous name.  Gary just doesn’t sound right.”

“Forgive me, but it’s still a little hard to believe you were a guy.  I mean, you not only look, but act like a real girl.”

She gave a pure smile that reached her eyes.  “But I am a real girl.”  Patrick felt his heart skip a beat; it must be those dang pheromones.  She continued, “It’s strange to me, too.  I have all the memories, skills, and experiences as a guy, but it’s like it happened to a different person.”

“I bet you must hate the men who did this to you.”

“Actually, no.  I’m sort of grateful.  I do agree they are idiots, but they woke me up.  They were able to create something bigger than they were.”

“If you’re so grateful, why did stop running the experiments?”

“I’m just so… hungry.  They tried feeding me, even through a tube, but it’s a different type of hunger.  Much deeper.”  Patrick could see for the first time the hunger in her eyes, a fatigue; she was masking it with her confidence, but he could still see it.

“So, how do you get rid of this hunger?”

“I don’t know.  I feel it nearby.  I even feel it in you.  I’m not a cannibal, don’t worry.  I just feel you have what I need to fill up.”

“Is that why you attacked that man?”

“They told you that, huh?  Yeah, I guess so.  I was so hungry and it was the first time I sensed it.  I lost control for a moment.”

“Do you still have those urges?”

“Sure do.”

“Hmm, this is a lot to take in.  I’ll come back tomorrow and we can have another discussion.”

“Wait, Pat, I think I picked a name.  Come here; let me whisper it in your ear.  Maybe they won’t be able to hear it.  It can be our little secret.”

“Okay.”  Patrick stood up and walked over to her.  He felt his heart beat faster, but knew it was only the pheromones.  He could smell her.  Man, it was strong.  He leaned close, but not near enough for her to touch him in anyway.

“Eve.”  Right after she said that, Patrick felt a small, but strong hand hold his chin and turn his head.  He stared directly into Eve’s eyes, and then she kissed him.  It felt more than a kiss, like she was removing a burden he had always carried.  It only lasted a moment, but felt like hours.  She looked at Patrick, almost with tears in her eyes.  “Thank you.  I found it.”

Within seconds, the men in suits rushed in and stuck a needle in her neck.  They moved the unconscious girl out of the room.

“Congratulations, Doctor,” Henry said, once Patrick walked out of the room, “Not only did you not make any progress with her, I think you turned her against us.  You even managed to sneak a kiss in.”

“Maybe I should be asking you how she got out of her restraints.  Not now, Henry.  I’m not feeling very good.  I’m going.”

“Don’t bother coming back.  I’m not going to have her get worse.”

“You need me.  Like she said, you created something bigger than yourself.  You won’t be able to handle her.  I’m coming tomorrow.”  He would probably need to use his government contacts in order to return.  He wanted to start making a plan, but he couldn’t hold his thoughts together.

An assistant escorted Patrick back to the elevator.  However, Patrick’s chest began to hurt and his inside organs began to twist.  “Doctor? Are you unwell?” the assistant asked.

“I’m fine.”  Patrick’s voice didn’t sound right.  “Ah!”  Patrick doubled over in pain as his chest began to inflate into two full-formed  breasts underneath his thick clothing.  His gut receded and waist widened.  He reached into his pocket and felt between his legs; it was gone.  Any facial hair he had disappeared as his face became smoother and thinner.

The most prominent change, however, was in his mind.  He finally understood by what Eve said about waking up.  Everything seemed clearer.  It was like she would be able to solve any problem with ease.  She also felt stronger, not because her muscles were bigger; they were actually smaller than before.  She could just understand how to use them the right way.

She straightened back up; the change had only taken a few seconds.  Her clothes no longer fit properly.  Everything else in the room seemed a lot larger.  The scientists in the room started to gather around the newly transformed Patrick; wonder, confuse, and fear shone through their eyes.  It only took Patrick a few seconds to figure out the only way she would be able to escape.

She reached over to the assistant and kissed him.  It was like she was sucking pure energy.  A warm sensation traveled through her body, giving her a mental and physical high.  The assistant backed away.  If things went the same, the assistant would wake up within three minutes.  Patrick moved to the next closest man and kissed him.  Patrick felt overflowing with energy.

The scientists, including the ones Patrick had kissed, backed away and called for security.  An alarm started to sound.  Two security guards rushed in with guns.  They looked like children who were holding plastic toys; Patrick felt confident she would be able to dodge the bullets.  The bullet would be traveling too fast, but she just needed to get out the way of the barrel of the gun by the time they pulled the trigger.  However, it was risky.

Patrick raised her hands and backed against the wall.  The security guards moved carefully.  All of a sudden, a scientist began to scream.  Then a second screamed as well.  Perfect timing.  Patrick took advantage of the distraction and disarmed the security guards.  She kissed them both and knocked them out.

Patrick looked over just in time to see the two scientists she had kissed transform into girls; they both looked younger than they did before and had great figures beneath the bulky clothes.  One was a blonde and the other was a brunette.  Their hair was the same length as before, short, but it fell in a more feminine way.  The other scientist backed away in horror.  Patrick motioned the two girls to come over to her.

“How do you feel?”

“Not sure; not bad, that’s for sure,” the blonde former assistant said.

“I really want to study how this happened,” the brunette said, examining her body.

“You can do that afterwards.  Is there a way out another way out besides the elevator?”

“Yes, there’s a stairway in the back.”

“Figures.  Blondie, drag the two security guards into the elevator and wake them up,” Patrick said, motioning to the security guards who had just transformed, “Go up and walk down the stairway.  Kiss anybody you meet.  Tell them to do likewise.”  She nodded and dragged the bodies into the elevator.

Patrick turned to the remaining person, “Do you know how to override the alarm?”

“Yes.”

“Then do so.  Make sure they don’t send a SWAT team down here.  Also, watch the elevator to make sure no one goes up.”

“What will you do?”

“I’m going up the staircase.”

-------

Eve opened her eyes.  There was a lot of noise.  She was no longer in her room.  She was lying on a couch in the lobby.  She sat up and saw a lot of women moving around very urgently.  Eve noticed she no longer had that deep hunger.

One of the women noticed her wake up and called out, “Hey, she’s awake.”

A very beautiful woman with short black hair in her thirties walked over.  “Hello, Eve.  Good to see you again.”

“Eve?  How do you know that name?  The only person I told that too was the shrink.”

“Ms. Doodoo head at your service,” she said, giving a small curtsy in her awkward clothes.  Eve recognized the clothing.

“Pat? Is that you? How?”

“When you kissed me, it woke me up.  We ended up converting everybody down here.  That’s why you only see women.  However, it doesn’t work on real women.  We knocked them out and gave their clothes to the ones whose clothes really didn’t fit.  There’s about thirty of us.  Right now we are taking any information we can to study more about us.  Even after they’ve awakened, they are still boring scientists.”

Eve got to her feet.  Pat helped her remain steady.  “The government will find out what happened, if they haven’t already.  I doubt they’ll let us go free.”

“I know.  That’s why we’re going to spread out once we get outside.  They might catch some of us, but we’ll spread like wildfire.  We’re at the brink human evolution.”
Like promised, here's the story based on the recent comic I did ([link]). Hope you like it.

It turned out less than a zombie story and more like a combination of Rise of the Planet of the Apes and vampires. There's a lot of dialogue; I hope you can follow it easily.
