1000 Years Of Punishment

Some facts:
Germans hate their history and swore themselfs to NEVER forget it, to the point where some germans actually state, that they deserve "1000 years of punishment" to redeem themselfs.
In fact, it is determined BY LAW that someone that visits a school in germany from beginning to the end has to AT LEAST go through the history of nationalsozialism two times (9th class and 12th class). But some schools also go further and push this part of history three to five times into the students heads (starting as early as in 7th class), even with non-history related classes. And - in case this still doesn't satisfy the headmaster - many schools have projects like concerts for the descendants of victims, visits of the concentration camps, reading the novel "The Wave" with watching the movie afterwards or simliar.
The population is in strong beliefs that constant reminding of the horrible deeds of Germany will make the future generations refrain from repeatment. And even though strong children protection laws forbid children under 16 to see anything sex- or gore related (and often even up to the age of 18), schools show uncensored nazi cruelty to children that are sometimes at the age of only 14, including executions, torture, the mountains of corpses and more.
Germanys participation is thereby the most important case in all sessions, leading to the fact that some (or maybe even most) germans don't even know that Germany had allies like Japan or Italy in the second world war, making them believe to be the only country that had fought against the world, not even seeing the relation to incidents like the fascism of italy or the atomic bomb of Hiroshima.

Also, the german law goes as far as forbidding EVERYTHING that could be related to nationalsozialism, including "I hate Nazi"-buttons (because of the name Nazi or the display of a crossed Hakenkreuz), the Eiserne Kreuz (what Germany is always wearing as a necklace), flags of the colors red-white-black, anything simliar to a Hitlergruß and more. The problem even goes that far, that since it isn't said specifically, what is forbidden, that some people get arrested for doing the Hitler greeting, while others maybe just wore something that looks simliar to a national symbol of Germany. Many people, germans and foreigners, went to jail (even though often only for a short time) because of accidently ignoring this law, with the most extreme case of a british tourist guide, that stated that "Heil Hitler" was still a common greeting in Germany, leading to a great amount of imprisoned british tourists.
In fact, if I would be in Germany and someone would tell the police about this picture and the "My Guilt" picture, it could actually happen that I would be convicted of spreading forbidden signs, leading to at least a high penality payment.


Some more facts:
Because germans are so over-sensitive of their history, they are very fast in feeling threatened and hurt, when others use the past as insult.
In the latest cases, where german politicians ordered to restrain the money flow for greece and spain and people of those countries then started burning german flags and showing pictures comparing Angela Merkel (the actual german leader) to Adolf Hitler made a great deal of the german population so angry and hurt that serious discussing about leaving the EU started, with calculations about the costs for leaving the €uro and talks about stopping any support for other european countries.
It also happens pretty often, mainly on the internet, that a german that gets insulted by the nickname "Nazi" will begin a childish behaviour, trying to attack back by showing that the attacker has a equally horrid past. Sadly, most germans don't watch their language and sound more then just once like trivializing the holocaust, making them perfectly fit in the image of germans that are racist and deny the holocaust in itself.
