A voice beckons deep from the darkness...

Chapter 8 Shadow Event

You receive a message in your cellphone...

:iconisadoraplz::icontellplz: This is Isadora Aristova, Kirimori City's Chief Superintendent of Police. As a result of our cooperative operations with your school, the Occult Reconnaissance Squad (ORS) has recently been established to assist you in your battle against the Shadows.

We know of their existence and have the ability to see them, even if we don't have the power to fend them off as you do. Our strength lies, however, in reconnaissance, tactical support, and armed strategy -- all of which are at your school's disposal towards our common goal in eliminating these enemies.

The number of reported missing persons continues to increase among students and civilians. Fortunately, some students were found a few days after their disappearance.

Though it seems Shadows were not involved, as they claimed to be “fine and unhurt” during the time they were gone, we must not take such incidences lightly.

Lastly, we have discovered a handful of information that may be of use to you -- all of which came from recent encounters with some of those you call "Winged Ones", the winged Shadows.

:bulletgreen: Be wary of isolated areas around Nishimori District. We have doubled our patrol in that area after our encounter with the Winged Ones. They escaped fairly quickly, leaving us with a handful of previously missing persons, all of which have now been sent to the hospital and diagnosed with RMD. Aside from that, a message was left on old and yellowed scraps of paper scattered about at the scene, with words written in black ink. This was what we have pieced together as a legible message:
Like a hierophant commands from the tower,
The unholy mother rules the night
    Her sweet voice beckons, summons
Guiding her children to the path of darkness

On the evening of the flawless moon
A deal with the devil, a magician's pact,
Bound in enchantment, will be fulfilled
And all will behold our vengeance in flesh
If the ones who left this cryptic message were the Winged shadows, it might be important. Take it with your own interpretation if you so wish. :bulletgreen: Recently we have also discovered that the "Winged Ones" have the ability to manipulate lesser Shadows. Both weak and strong Shadows obey their commands, and can alter their Shadow forms and attributes in the middle of battle under their influence. :bulletgreen: Yesterday, one of our evening patrols reported to have sighted a young girl with blonde hair in Nishimori Forest, but was unsuccessful in tracking her as shadows had interfered. We speculate that she was one of the reported missing children. :bulletgreen: Reports of the recon team that followed indicated the presence of a Shadow with unusual appearance among a crowd of others with common characteristics. Needless to say, without Persona users among our ranks, we could not take further action. It would be greatly appreciated should you decide to join in our mission. We will back you up if needed. Good luck and be careful.

SHADOW DUNGEON: Nishimori Forest

( Credits to Huuni for the Dungeon Art!)

Nishimori Forest is a 5 minute walk away from the outskirts of the district, accessible by a bridge that arches over a river.

At first glance, it is similar to the other forests in Kirimori City, but what lies inside differs it from the rest. In the evenings, a thick fog permeates deep within the forest, making it difficult to navigate through the thick trees and shrubs.

Rumor has it that in the past, the forest became the site of cult rituals, with a number of people unwillingly sacrificed to their pagan gods. It is said that the forest is haunted by the vengeful spirits of those who have died there.

Ever since then, the forest reeked of death.
For mysterious reasons, the forest attracts those who seek to end their lives, disappearing among the trees and never to be seen again.

SHADOW BOSS: The Emerald Sceptre

( Credits to Huuni for the Shadow Art!)

Mission Details

Defeat the Emerald Sceptre!

:bulletgreen: The Emerald Sceptre relies on the deep fog, the darkness of the night, and the heavy foilage to keep itself hidden. Its eyes can see perfectly well in the darkness, though. Like a snake, it waits for its prey to arrive within range before attacking.
:bulletgreen: The girl does not seem to be a Shadow, but it is guarding the Emerald Sceptre with her life. You must defeat the Shadow without harming the girl.
:bulletgreen: Furthermore, the Emerald Sceptre, the blonde girl, and you are not the only ones in the forest, so be careful...

Chapter 8 Ending

The Pact Denied

With the team's final attack, the serpentine body of the Emerald Sceptre lies motionless on the forest glade, black specks emanating from its fallen corpse until it was nothing.

The blonde little girl, however, let out a painful scream as she fell unconscious on the grass at the exact moment the Emerald Sceptre had been defeated.

With the Emerald Sceptre defeated, you attempt to find your way back to the forest's entrance together with your teammates.

Disillusionment

Upon opening the door within the Shadow Realm, you are brought back to the forest, having regained full control of your body.

You find yourself in a silent area in the forest, which seemed to be the remains of cult worship. Strange wooden instruments, bones of many animals left behind, and many other things impossible to distinguish in the darkness of the evening.

Now that you are awake, you walk around, seeking for any sign of help or rescue as you try to recall the previous events.

The Aftermath

As Nightfall approaches its end, the once silent forest was bustling with activity with recovering any students still left inside.

The unconscious little girl slowly wakes in the custody of the Occult Reconnaissance Squad.
She suddenly cries in her hands, complains of a throbbing pain in her head, and pleaded that she be taken home.

With the help of the Occult Reconnaissance Squad, any injured and unconscious students are found, tended to and brought to the hospital, or home if need be.

At the end of it all, atop the tallest tree of the forest, the two Winged Shadows, Asariel and Zadkiel, watch over them for the last time before disappearing back into the darkness.

:new: Some of the students, however, are found by the ORS to havemet rather unfortunate fates inside Nishimori Forest.
The following have fallen under the might of the enemy:

:bulletgreen: Suno Gundersen
:bulletgreen: Sunao Nadeshiko
:bulletgreen: Ichii Hashiyama
:bulletgreen: Myo Nakahara
:bulletgreen: Leslie Hashimoto
:bulletgreen: Alex Montebrough

Event and Story Notes

:bulletgreen: Any new students or students that have not yet participated in a previous Chapter Event but successfully participated in this event are now Awakened. They now have access to RAIDEN's database and the Observatory Basement acting as the Shadow Hunting Team's headquarters, and all its facilities. :new:

:bulletgreen: Nishimori Forest may still have little traces of Shadows roaming around. Feel free to return to this Shadow Dungeon whenever you wish for a chance to train and strengthen your abilities. Just be sure to come out alive afterwards. :new:

:bulletgreen: With the gradual increase of missing persons and RMD victims yet again, the Occult Reconnaissance Squad continues its nightly patrols around Kirimori City for any useful leads or information. Based on RAIDEN's scans across the area, the number of Shadows roaming around in the city have drastically decreased in number. :new:

:bulletgreen: The Recon Squad is formed by a few carefully selected members of the Kirimori Police Force, spearheaded by the Chief of Police herself. Needless to say, not all members of the police force are involved and know about Shadows and Persona. Information regarding these supernatural phenomena in Kirimori City is limited only to the ORS.

:bulletgreen: Members of the Recon Squad are called "Awares". "Aware" individuals are able to see Shadows and Persona, but they do not have an awakened Persona of their own. Individuals who possess the power of Persona are called "Awakened", meanwhile those who cannot see Shadows and Persona at all are called "Unawares".

:bulletgreen: The ORS have been contacted by the "Winged Ones", who interfered with the radio signal, and put their own message through. They threatened the ORS for being involved with Higashimori High School and its Shadow fighting operations.

:bulletgreen: Some of the Higashimori High School students have been mysteriously disappearing, though are found few days later unharmed and resume their daily routines as normal.
