Bio:

Hakoda is one half of a pair of identical twins, the other being Hayate; and while they grew up both highly involved in each other's lives, they were quite separable. Each one of them had their own sets of friends and their own directions of interest. Their different ideologies lead them to fight an awful lot--friendly debates would usually escalate into quarrels, which Hakoda would constantly provoke, claiming he was doing it to help, which would only spur a different argument. Hakoda always thought that people thought best under pressure, or could come to the best ultimate conclusions when emotionally provoked or upset, but Hayate always thought that positive energy provoked the best reactions in people. Other than that, though, they got along quite well and worked as a great team.

When they were twelve, Hakoda found that he would have to start living up to his mindset--in August of 2006, their parents had started to notice Hakoda drinking an immense amount, and using the bathroom just as much--and he'd dropped at least fifteen pounds (which made him alarmingly distinguishable from Hayate) in a little over a week. He'd been tired and weak, and they tried to dismiss it as just a phase, but his mother brought him to the doctor's office anyway just to have him checked out. He'd known something was wrong immediately, that it couldn't have been a regular checkup--Hayate wasn't there. He was more afraid about that, than anything, though he let the doctors do blood work. They found his blood sugar was at 617. He was immediately admitted to the hospital, diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and there a week for training. Both of his parents had been completely unaware about diabetes--Type 1 was still somewhat rare in Japan. They'd rapidly educated themselves, trying to be as helpful and gentle as they could. When he got home, he was excessively resistant to the entire idea, especially with how intensely his parents cared about it--while he'd gotten a pump a few months later instead of going the route of needles, he was still horribly denying that he had to live in such a way, claiming that he was cured, that he felt perfectly fine, that he didn't need any of that. He was still just the same as his brother.

While he'd initially been in the hospital, he'd found out that twins had a much higher rate of Type 1 between them--meaning Hayate had anywhere from a 50-80% risk of developing it as well. Despite there being no definite cause of Type 1, Hakoda was wracked with guilt, believing that it was his fault that Hayate now had this risk, not wanting to even think about the guilt if he were to get it, and how he would blame himself. That had all hit him before he'd had a chance to be hit with the fact that he had to deal with it, himself--and when it did during his honeymoon phase, his behavior only worsened. His brother had, meanwhile, enrolled in the TrialNet oral insulin study in an attempt to prevent it from developing.

At fourteen, Soroya had come to them--they'd met before through online gaming, mostly through Hayate, though they knew him as Myung-Dae. The three of them had been familiar for a while--initially, the two of them excitedly learned some basic Korean to communicate with him, but the reverse happened when they had to try and teach him Japanese. During the first months, Hakoda had tried to hide his condition from Soroya in his own embarrassment, but it was inevitable that he would eventually find out, and he did. Having an external individual aware made it a little easier for him to be open about the whole thing, but that still didn't mean he wanted to be open.

In high school, he had started taking an interest in biology, potentially related to his condition. But he didn't want to be a doctor--he wanted to develop some kind of technology, some better treatment, maybe even a cure for what he had, in an attempt to free his brother from the risk, and to free himself from the guilt that he carried. He of course believed that his hardships had inspired the desire for that path, and that further struggle would drive him to his solution. He'd enrolled in Kamenoko University right out of high school in Biomedical Engineering, commuting to and from home every day, having urged Soroya to attend there as well, shortly after he'd completed his first year. During his second, he'd decided he needed to try and be self-dependent, deciding to dorm with Soroya to be closer to the school, and also closer to his doctor, evading a lot of unnecessary travel.

Personality:

Exceptionally bold and without any kind of restraint, he's very blunt and has no issues with voicing harsh things and not connecting any emotion to them. He carries a strong belief that people can't grow, innovate, or gain success without some kind of struggle--and because of that, he takes it upon himself to provoke such things in others. He not only pushes people's limits, but their patience, as well--he feels like life has become too easy for most people, that everyone's received too much of a helping hand, and that no progress will ever come out of it. That fewer and fewer people are really able to flourish and will be able to make a change in the world.

His motivations are driven by his imaginings of the future, and opportunities and mysteries and misfortunes that might come along with it, and how he or anyone else will be able to react to them. He'll happily debate this with anyone--or anything else for that matter, as he'll always stubbornly hold onto his ideas, even when he's defended them until they no longer make sense in his ears, either.

Hakoda is vastly immature, but he's aware of that, and oftentimes it's a conscious effort. He takes part in an activity he refers to as leeching; feeding off of the energy from others provided by the reactions they give from his provocation. It's his primary hobby, and he'll do it to anyone who will stick around, though he takes the most interest in those that have reactions he can't easily predict. It's also implemented as a defense mechanism; he prefers to drive people away, as he'd rather be known of then known about. Quite self-conscious about his personal life, he feels that when people know too much, they tend to become hyper-aware of his behavior, which irritates him endlessly. Always would he rather be treated for his personality than his condition--and he'd prefer to have a rotten personality, just so people won't come taking an interest in him.

Extra:

- Left Handed
- When he and his brother are together, they're often referred to as a singular entity known as The Miyuno.
- His pump is a OneTouch Ping, and he tests only on his right hand. He goes to the Tokyo Midtown Medical center once a month to refill and get checked out.
- While he argues he can be perfectly self-dependent, he's actually very heavily reliant on the presence of others.
- Speaks some weak Korean because of Soroya.
- Collects sugar cubes.
- He has a nervous habit of crossing his fingers and cracking the joints in them.
