Retrospective 2022
Wow, it's been four years since I did a year-end post. It's as though life has been crazy and weird or something. 2022 has been an interesting year for me, artistically speaking. Though I spent the first few months of the year stuck in one of the worst art blocks I’ve experienced for quite awhile, I gained momentum as the months went on. I tried some new things, and rediscovered some old things. I was inspired by a lot of talented people, and hopefully inspired others too. Unfortunately, 2022 has brought some not so good things as well. As we step further and further into this age of technology, the climate of art has changed drastically in a short time. And most unsettling is how it has changed in ways no one is quite prepared for, challenging our definitions of ownership, privacy, and intellectual property. Being an artist has never been easy in the best of times, but now, in the age of NFTs and AI art and rampant art theft, there are pitfalls at every step. There are a lot of
Watercolor supplies - feedback wanted!
Hello to any watercolorists still around these parts  I want to know your thoughts on supplies, namely paints and brushes (Arches has spoiled me for other papers). What brands do you like? What brands do you dislike? Do you have better luck with one instead of another? I'd love to hear your feedback :) I've been using Holbein pigments and Robert Simmons brushes since I started painting 15 years ago. But it seems as though most of the Robert Simmons have been discontinued here in the US (at least, I can't seem to find most of the ones I use on my favorite art supply site when I looked last week). Since I have to search out a new brand, I thought I'd ask for feedback from fellow painters. Anyone have a certain type or brand of synthetic brushes they love? I not a big fan of animal hair brushes for various reasons, so I'm definitely looking for synthetic. And though I've had good luck with Holbein paints over the years, I'm curious to hear from other watercolorists.

Uncertainty
I've been thinking that I *should* write a new journal for some time now, but just... haven't. I haven't felt like it, haven't known what to say, haven't thought it really mattered.
Life has changed dramatically for a lot of us in just the past few months. For me it started three months ago with an unexpected move and all of the ensuing stress and difficulties, which was then compounded by the changes and challenges brought on by global pandemic and shutdown. And - though I don't normally feel comfortable getting too personal online anymore - I wasn't in the best headspace before *any* of that started. So yeah. Life's been hard. Join the clu
