"What are you even looking for?" Mike asked his long-term girlfriend, and the new owner of her family's ranch. He seemed to be getting a little impatient as she had wondered through the viewing pens about ten times already. She'd looked over the groups of horses in each pen, read their information on the clipboards and moved on.
"I don't know really, something that sticks out really." Amelia was indecisive at the moment. After spying the dun stud-colt earlier who she fell in love with she couldn't make up her mind on a horse she actually needed. The colt was what she wanted, despite his nasty behavior and wild nature. She wanted others to go with him, the possible start of a breeding program of her lovely Mustangs, but that would mean choosing some mares.
"What about that one, can't go wrong with a baby." Mike pointed to a filly, not even a year old, standing with it's mother. Both were bays and relatively plain. Amelia watched for a moment then shook her head. He meant well, but he wasn't the most knowledgeable about horses. Mike just went along with it because it's what she loved, and he wanted to see her happy.
"That one though..." Amelia pointed to another filly in the same pen, though this one was older. She'd been facing away most of the time but when she turned and looked towards them Amelia noticed her color. Roans were common in Mustangs but that little bit of white made her just right.
"So, finally picked one."
"One, still need a few more." She smiled and wrote down her tag number on her palm, making sure she'd watch for her when the auction started.

By the time the auction was over Amelia left with three mares and a stud-colt, all which made her happy. Though she had lost out on the black filly she was wanting she was content with her new lot. Unloading the mares that night was easy, the three seemed to clump together quietly and explore the fenced pen they would be in overnight. In the morning they weould be separated and Amelia would start to gentle them.
