About Oraclemanga

The history of Oraclemanga:
Oraclemanga was formed in 2009 between two best friends - Himi and Tsuzuki - who shared a love for manga, anime, music, and reading.

Originally, we intended for Oraclemanga to be the name we did all of our work under. The more we researched and learned about copyright and its laws, we discovered as two fans of manga, we did not have the means to legally start the group we imagined this circle could be.
Doujinshi circles are common in Japan, but derivative works like fan comics in the US are often regarded as copyright infringement. So!
We decided to focus on the indie comic market and have all of our doujinshi be original. ov o/ but as we persued that option, we discovered we did not have the means to start up a legal partnership. We're two hobbyists who share a love for manga and anime and we don't have the financial stability that is necessary for this kind of business venture.
However, we would never ever give up on this beautiful dream that Oraclemanga can be ;  ///v///;

SO! O VO/
We decided to go back to our fandom roots and celebrate everything that we know and love about anime and manga and share it with you <3
Everything on Oraclemanga is fan work done for the joy of drawing and making comics. It is our hobby, it is something we work on in our free time. This work is not intended for commercial purposes. ever. Enjoy the fandoms with us! o vo/

How do you go about making your manga? Do you make a schedule?
Making manga is a labor of love! o vo/

  • First we start with a rough story idea - usually we write this whenever they come to us and we save them to a folder for later. A sort of digital idea jar. Whichever idea grabs us the most or strikes us as the most exciting, we pick!
  • So we head to handy dandy Skype (XD ) and we hash out plot details/possibilities and character details. And this process usually takes a week or so to get the rough idea to take shape.
  • Then, it's on to the refinement process. Tsu sketches out the characters and develops them further. We pass them back and forth and edit them a bit.

  • We do the same for the story as well! We write it out in a document and flesh out dialogue and make sure the newly emerging personalities shine through. It's in this process that we get a real feel for the characters and how they would react in the world we set them in. Sometimes this changes the story and we edit it as we see fit.
  • When we're satisfied with that, we work on scripting and storyboarding o vo/

  • Tsuzuki has a real talent for page flow and the cinematic eye, so she draws a super rough/small thumbnails that is the roadmap for us to follow and we both edit that as we see fit. o v o/ We make sure it flows properly and we're getting across our message.

From here on our we are still experimenting with different workflows, but for each project, its been a little different.
  • Currently, Tsuzuki sets up the csp file, putting in the paneling and lettering, and Himi sketches in the artwork. We look at the work as a whole to ensure it flows well and then himi finishes the work with ink and tone.
We have no set schedules. We work on fan manga in our free time because we're both adults with busy lives and we work on it when we can.
