Safety First

Hindsight has a cold, cruel sting -
   And yet, a bittersweet one;
It waits 'til we can't change a thing,
   Then shows us what we should've done.

   Thus, the injured, spiked by sharp regret,
       Now knew their pain could've been prevented.
   Their bodies ached as they tried to forget
       How deeply their pride had been dented -

       But, through this experience, they'd learned
           To avoid injury in future days.
       The ill-timed lesson - after they'd been burned -
           Meant they now saw the error of their ways;

   And if any good was to become of it all,
       It was the benefits to future practice;
   For, those who mend the fences now surely won't fall
       Into the field of giant cactus.

Yes, when work is performed on that property again,
   All employees will be well-versed -
And the message imprinted on their collective brain
   Will be "safety first!"
