Well, I haven't been around for about a week and I haven't heard from this artist for an even longer time. I log on and I see two submissions from this artist and they are both quality pieces, both open to critiques. Since I have an inbox rather full of submissions, I decided to limit myself to one critique/comment per artist and choose to critique this one. Why? Because there is slightly more for me to criticize than the other.

The artist's recent submission, "Shall we Watch the Stars Together," is much like this one. It shares in this ones strengths and weaknesses. The two also share a similar style and ambiance with which the artist does a fantastic job. The biggest difference between this one and the other is the presence of light. There is considerably more light in this one and where the artist does a great job for the most part, blending the shades and such, there a couple places the detail seems to fade or become hazy.

The way the water was done and how the light seems to glow (rather than shine) around their feet and where they are levitating from was fantastic. The water around their feet (hooves, whatever) resembles a bright, almost fog-like, appearance, and the area of water where they are practicing looks incredibly real. In fact, I'm surprised I never mentioned just the sheer detail of this piece. The detail of the characters, the water, the flowers, the grasses. It's fucking ridiculous......In a good way, mind you.

Anyhow one thing that stuck out for me was the trees. It looks as though a whole lot of time was put into the water, the characters, the grasses, and when it got to the trees (the plants surrounding the entire piece) the quality dropped. It's not BAD, mind you, it just stuck out to me. In "Shall we Watch the Stars Together" the way the fields were done went with the mountains and the sky in the background fluidly. With the detail given to the grass, I figure the leaves would at least be defined.

So that's it. Trees. That's the only thing I feel I can justly criticize. There's no denying, this is a magnificent piece. One of my favorites. And it was just the thing I needed to see upon my return to dA.

Cheers,
