Manga & Anime galleries explained!
Manga and Anime has a good deal of subcategories so it's easy to get confused about where to submit your artwork. Let's go over all the subcategories and explain what should go into each of them!
Sometimes the differences between categories (such as drawings and paintings) can be so subtle that it's difficult to place an artwork in one or the other. In those cases, use your best judgement, if you believe your piece is more of a painting because your piece has more brush work than linework, then place it in Paintings and the other way around. Same confusions can arise if you have a traditionally drawn piece that you coloured digitally... In that case decide which part is the dominant one, is your work more digital or more traditional? Select your category after you've decided
Without furthe ado, let's take a look at the categories!

Without furthe ado, let's take a look at the categories!
- Digital Media is the first subcategory we find while submitting a deviation and browsing the galleries. Any artwork drawn in Manga style using Digital programs such as but not limited to Photoshop, Paint Tool SAI, GIMP, PaintShopPro, MangaStudio, IllustStudio, online drawing programs...etc. should be submitted to this subcategory.
- 3D subcategory- original Manga and Anime styled artworks created using 3D computer software programs such as Maya, Blender, Poser etc.
- Drawings subcategory - manga & anime styled artworks in which the lines of the drawing are visible and play an important role in the composition of the piece.
- Paintings subcategory - manga & anime styled works in which lines are not (fully) visible or they don't play such a crucial role due to shapes, volume and composition being mostly created by the brush strokes and the colouring itself.
- Vector subcategory - Manga and Anime artwork created in vector-based programs (such as Illustrator, Corel Draw, Inkscape and Flash) using only vector tools and containing only vector elements. Traces and/or colourings of official manga panels, pages or illustrations DO NOT belong in this category. These should be placed in Fan Art.
- Oekaki subcategory - Manga and Anime artworks created through the use of oekaki online forum boards such as OekakiBBS, PaintBBS, and ShiPainter or programs such as MS Paint.
- Manga (comics) subcategory - comics drawn in manga and anime style using digital programs such as MangaStudio or Photoshop.
- Pages & Panels subcategory - Individual pages or panels from an ongoing comic.
- Strips subcategory - a series of interrelated panels telling a story, usually arranged in vertical or horizontal sequences.
- Traditional Media - The second main subcategory we find in the gallery. It's home for all the manga and anime styled artworks that have been created using traditional tools such as pencils, pens, brushes, watercolours, oils...etc.
- Drawings subcategory - manga & anime styled artworks created using tools such as pencils, inks and crayons in which the lines of the drawing are visible and play an important role in the composition of the piece.
- Paintings subcategory - Manga and Anime artworks created by using wet traditional mediums such as watercolors and oil paint in which lines don't play such a crucial role due to shapes, volume and composition being mostly created by the brush strokes and the colouring itself.
- Mixed media subcategory - Manga and Anime artworks created by using more than one traditional medium, such as watercolors and pencil crayons.
- Manga (comics) subcategory - comics drawn in manga and anime style using traditional tools such as inks, brushes, markers, and screentone sheets.
- Pages & Panels subcategory - Individual pages or panels from an ongoing comic.
- Strips subcategory - a series of interrelated panels telling a story, usually arranged in vertical or horizontal sequences.
