The Black Cat
1934 Directed by Edgar G. Ulmer
Staring Béla Lugosi Boris Karloff David Manners and Julie Bishop
Honeymooning in Hungary, Joan and Peter Allison share their train compartment with Dr. Vitus Verdegast, a courtly but tragic man who is returning to the remains of the town he defended before becoming a prisoner of war for fifteen years. When their hotel-bound bus crashes in a mountain storm and Joan is injured, the travelers seek refuge in the home. The film has several nods to Edgar Allan Poes "Black Cat" www.dailymotion.com/...
this Black Cat should not be confused with The Black Cat also stars Bela Lagosi, however unlike the first Black Cat this 1941 Directed by Albert S. Rogell also stars Basil Rathbone Alan Ladd and Anne Gwynne and in this movies Even Ladd is scared! Greedy heirs wait in a mansion for a rich cat lover to die, only to learn her cats come first. youtu.be/EfnkDAG1GZk
Honorable mention goes out to Bringing up Baby with Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant and a leopard named Baby.
Then we have Cat People in 1942 Directed by Jacques Tourneur starring Simone Simon Tom Conway and Elizabeth Russell about a Sketch artist Irena Dubrovna (Simon) and American architect Oliver Reed (Smith) fall in love and marry after a brief courtship. But Irena believes that she suffers from an ancient curse and won't consummate the union for fear that she will turn into a panther compelled to kill her lover. youtu.be/0ADPSaybusM

As mentioned in our Edgar Allan Poe Octoberween special
The Tomb of Ligeia from 1964 was Directed by Roger Corman about a man haunted by the spirit of his dead wife and her effect on his second marriage. Even on her wedding night the headstrong young bride must share the man she loved with the "female thing" that lived in the Tomb of the Cat!
then we have Night of a thousand cats or otherwise called "blood feast" a 1972 film about Millionaire playboy Hugo flies around Acapulco in his private helicopter to pick up sexy young women. He whisks them away to his secluded old castle, where he wines and dines them. With the aid of his bald mute little helper Gorgo, he kills his dates, keeping their heads in a crystal cage and feeding their chopped up body parts to his 1,000-strong army of blood thirty, flesh hungry cats. This is a mexican movie and a René Cardona Jr.-flick and it is my firm belief that everyone of his films are worth watching, at least once. youtu.be/5fQYy9CXcMs
Also as a big fan of Fritz the Cat I am posting the 1972 release of one of the Fritz the Cat movies. youtu.be/htIbDWhd93o Its not a horror movie but I love it just the same.
Cat People in 1982 After years of separation, Irina (Nastassja Kinski) and her minister brother, Paul (Malcolm McDowell), reunite in New Orleans in this erotic tale of the supernatural. When zoologists capture a wild panther, Irina is drawn to the cat -- and the zoo curator (John Heard) is drawn to her. Soon, Irina's brother will have to reveal the family secret: that when sexually aroused, they turn into predatory jungle cats. youtu.be/qYFF12n3hgw
in 1985 we had Cats eye three shorts from Stephen King tied together by one menacing cat really only two out of three are good, but they can't all be winners, but hey it has James Woods and Drew Barrymore! youtu.be/ZVUCwN57nbU
Then my favorite of favorites Sleepwalkers made in 1992 once again a Stephen King story made into a movie about two Cat people a mother and a son out to feed on unwitting virgins. I was still pretty young when I saw this movie and found it rather disturbing however I think that had more to do with the awesome song "Sleepwalk" by Santo and Johnny which is our song of the day. Enjoy! youtu.be/1st_9KudWB0
