Every week, we collect and feature the outstanding submissions to our gallery. If you're looking for quality literature to read, start here!

Each item is hand-picked by our admins and presented with a small introduction (we think this makes browsing literature easier). We don't seek perfection: we just choose interesting work and share it for critique, appreciation and encouragement.

This week found us some more, emotionally and perhaps spiritually stirring pieces, from the sensual food analagies of "canapes" to a writer's changing relationship with God and the death of a friend in the Tama river.

This Week's Features

canapes by wispy-blue

Love me in bite sized pieces

A lovely little poem with beautiful imagery.  There's a really nice contrast between the first and second stanza with a brilliant shift from gluttony to appreciation.

on old sanzu - absolutely true fiction by MindlessThinker

In the author's own words: "death is not a metaphor; death is not a meaning."

Written with a straightforward and slightly dark edge, "on old sanzu" explores death with a sharp and almost emotionally distanced voice of acceptance - which is not to say that it lacks emotion.  What makes this read enjoyable is the imagery and dotted references to popular culture

Letters To God by DallasInWonderland

An exploration into one person's changing relationship with God

A well written and engaging poem exploring the changing relationship with God, from childhood to adult. Niavety, bitterness, sadness and in the end, indifference, are all conveyed beautifully here

Shepherd vs. Sheep by BulimicWaltz

"Ghosts in my head told me that / I could become the Hydra"

Well-written with a wonderful flow, the way the poem swings from reverence and tenderness to barely restrained violence in each stanza is frighteningly engaging

Neither Plant nor Animal - But the World is Alive with Them

This week's Inspirational find was suggested by :iconbrokentales: and is the fantastically mystical (and slightly frightening) movie, and anime, "Mushi-Shi" - which had our admin team in quite an excited stir when it was mentioned as it seems to have struck us all!

Images sourced and linked back to IMDB

If you have a suggestion for the "Inspiration Box", why not drop us a note and share it with everyone?
