Dark has a black stallion called Storm. I haven’t thought about this part that of much but let’s see what I have come up so far.

Connection with Epona
First of all, Storm is Epona’s Shadow. The black stallion was only seen by the mare and unlike with people, animals actually are better off on keeping connection with their “imagination friends”. And since Epona was the only young horse among others, Storm was a good friend for her. Yet, neither thought things to go further than just friendship since Storm was still a Shadow, after all. Yet, as he is Epona's Shadow, the stallion is as fast and strong as the mare is.

Creation
Dark requested once a pet for himself but Ganondorf declined. Only when Ganondorf took Epona for himself, he realized that there was a living shadow with her. From there he took the Shadow away from the mare and with bit of magic, he gave the horse a life of its own. Yet, he didn’t give the horse to Dark. Oh no, he used the horse for his Phantom. Unfortunately even Storm died at that point but he was a Shadow and so the stallion came back.

Connection with Dark
It was only during the six and half years after Ganondorf’s defeat that Dark met with Storm. Like Link has a connection with Epona, the stallion knew straight off that he’s meant to be with the dark Hylian. Yet, the connection between Dark and Storm is much stronger than what the Hero has with his mare.

The reason for a strong connection is the Shadowy Language. Storm can talk to Dark and know that the dark Hylian fully understands him. Epona can’t talk with Link but the Hero can read some of the body language and whatnot for his benefit. Yet, sometimes there is slight misunderstanding or then Storm is trying to explain something bit on the harder way than needed and Dark doesn’t fully get it. Not to mention that sometimes Dark tries to understand more on the stallion’s body language and movements instead of listening to what the horse is actually saying. -.-‘ Like what happened in Christmas at Hyrule when Storm met with a Gerudo horse when they practiced the Horseback archery.
