"Why do you build, knowing destruction is inevitable? Why do you yearn to live, knowing all things must die?"

I have a confession to make...

...I have never in my life touched a Final Fantasy game...

...I'm sorry. But...they just look...really boring. RPGs in general tend to turn me off. It's just constant waiting around to attack. And honestly, Final Fantasy generally just tends to look like a bunch of generic anime characters...and generally that really is what it is. I remember growing up and seeing Final Fantasy 7 in every magazine ever. I didn't know a thing about the series, but I certainly saw as did everyone else it was getting shoved in the face of. Mainly I tended to ignore it.

So I continued to ignore it for years and years until I stumbled across something. A weird blue woman in a glass container called Jenova. Now I'd seen it in magazines and stuff back when 7 was coming out, but to me it looked more like something out of Resident Evil making me think more along the lines of "oh man, I really need to look into that series soon. That Code Veronica game's looking amazing... (and it was)". But after I'd gotten older and found out it was actually from Final Fantasy I sighed and went "fine...it's from THAT series...guess I better finally look into this..."

So I watched Advent Children, the sequel to 7. And my god...it was...so...damn...boring.... And it isn't just that it's Final Fantasy. Most, if not all, canon video game movies that I've seen have the exact same problem. Too...much...talking. Yes, we get it, it's referencing things that the fans will know about or that the movie thinks will be important to the fans since it's connected to past events. But you're sacrificing excitement for trivial background information to take up most of the screen time. I don't give a crap about what general WilPharma is selling G to nor am I invested in these three Sephiroth look-a-likes in the slightest.

And Sephiroth...my god...talk about overrated. Back in the day he just looked like some anime guy with a sword...and now he's still just that. Some guy. From all that I ever gathered the real threat of 7 was Jenova. I mean it's the reason that there's all that evilness in the story to begin with and Sephiroth was basically just acting as an extension of its agenda.

Once I realized what 7 was actually about though, I got slightly interested thinking that "wow...this Jenova stuff is pretty...interesting...what'd the past games have building it up to 7?". Once skimmed the series though I realized a grave...confliction...

NONE OF THE GAMES CONNECT!

I mean...they all take place on entirely different worlds! The only thing the games have in common is that they all have Chocobos, Moogles, and guys called Cid...AND THAT'S PRETTY MUCH IT! I mean...it's as disconnected as a series could be! I got so damn confused when I was researching it for the first time!

But, amidst all the oddities and blandish animeness, there was one title that stuck out a bit to me. Final Fantasy 6 (or 3 as it was originally called in the US). It was...well...interesting. All steampunkish, the story was quite well crafted, and you FOUGHT A TRAIN THAT YOU'RE RUNNING AWAY FROM!...WHAT?! It was filled to the brim with drama and absurdity. It had actual character, and for that, I'd have to say it's easily my favorite of the series.

And the villain...Kefka Palazzo. Everyone goes on...and on...and on...about Sephiroth, but I'm sorry. He's just boring. Hell, pretty much all the villains I've seen are boring. Ultimecia, big buff generic warlord, all of em. But Kefka. He was FUN. He cracked jokes. He was overconfident. And he was so god damn evil...and he loved every second of it. People frequently call him the Joker of the series, and in a way I'd have to agree. So sadistic yet funny.

So I thought "what the hell? I'll scribble him". Got the drawing done in like three minutes, then scanned it into the computer. "Wait...this should have some color since it's probably the only time I'll ever do something of Final Fantasy". So I spent all morning coloring this. And here it is =) Hope it turned out alright.

Oh, and his final boss theme kicks ass: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jVcn6…

It's the Joker's long-lost twin brother! :giggle: Very nice scribble of him!
