If you do not wish to read my story then don't, I'm not stopping you. But if you do, then please leave a comment. Enjoy

A gentle breeze rustled leaves and made grass blades sway by its feather light touch. A groan came from somewhere beneath the rocking branches of one of the trees. Little pinpricks of light made their way through the leaves and onto the ground beneath the tree. Some of these rays never made it to the ground; they landed on Conor's face eliciting a groan from him.

Conors first reaction when he started to come too was to turn away from the light; but he didn't expect what happened next to occur.  A wave of pain spiked through his neck as he attempted to shy away from the light. He tried to yell in pain but nothing came out. With fear beginning to course through his mind, his eyes shot open but he instantly regretted it.  The light instantaneously blinded him and he quickly closed them almost as soon as they were opened. Waiting a moment from the shock of being blinded, he began to slowly open his eyes so they could adjust to the light. When his vision cleared, he blinked a few times to sharpen his vision and started looking around. What greeted him weren't the pines he was used to, but massive oaks instead. He stared with wide eyes as a leaf floated down and landed in front of him.

Conor Continued to stare at the leaf, not able to think of anything else to do. Wasn't I in a place with pines and not oaks? He thought. After a couple minutes had passed, his gaze shifted from the leaf sitting in front of him to his surroundings. It was dominated by oak trees and the greenest grass he had ever seen. Looking to his right, Conor saw his bag in front of him with its contents splayed out across the ground. At least it's not torn to shreds. A soon as that thought passed; he heard a soft groan coming from somewhere to his left.

Conors body went rigid; fearing that whatever had made the noise would cause him harm. After a few moments of nothing happening, he decided to turn his head to the direction that the noise came from. As soon as he started to shift his head to the left, he realized something wasn't right with his body but didn't think much of it. Turning his head in the direction from where the sound had come from, he stared at what he saw. What was lying next to him, in the grass, was a creature only thought of as being from legends or a child's story book.

The creature before him lay there unmoving. Its golden scales and a white under belly shining like diamonds in the sunlight. Five curved white horns adorned its head, the two main ones bending down running along its neck with a sharp curve at the ends. Its wings had the same color tone as it's under belly and each tip ended with a sharp point. The final thing he noticed was its tail; it was long and ended with a wicked lightning bolt shaped blade.

The creature stirred and slowly opened its eyes. Their eyes locked and that's when he noticed it had Arins bright green eyes. "Arin?" Conor said and then furrowed his brow from the way he sounded. His voice was much deeper than before. There was a short pause before it also spoke.

"Y-ya?" Arin said.

"You might want to take a look at yourself." He said in response.

"You may want to do the same." she said before swiveling her head to look behind her.

Conor frowned or tried to frown but that's when he noticed he had a snout. That's when it dawned on him, why he felt different, why he was able to move his head at odd angles and why he saw a black membrane wing sprawled out along the ground next to him.

With that in mind, he slowly turned his head around to look at himself. What he saw fulfilled his suspicions. He had silver scales with two blue streaks starting from base of his horns, down the sides of his neck and likewise until it made it to the base of his tail. His two wings are silver and somewhat translucent. He spent some time gazing through his wings at the grass beneath him, trying to distinguish each blade from the other. His tail blade, or lack of one, just ended with a tip but it wasn't as reflective as the rest of his scales. Remembering that Arin Was Golden and had a white underside made him wonder what his stomach looked like. He turned his head around and sat up; looking down, he saw that it was completely black. It's almost as if Arin and I are opposites. He thought.

Conor lifted his paw to inspect his head.  His paw glided past his eyes and over the top of his head where it abruptly bumped into one of his two horns. Assuming that because Arins horns matched her underside scales, his would be black like his belly scales.

Conor peered over in Arins direction asking is she was all right "Are you all right Arin?"

"I gu-guess." She stuttered not entirely believing what she was seeing. "If," she paused for a moment to try and calm down. "If I didn't know any better, I would say that we are -" She was cut off by Conor.

"Dragons," he finished for her.

Coming to that conclusion, he decided that it would be best to try and walk on all fours. His first attempt at standing up made Arin laugh because as soon as he stood, he went face first into the ground. After a few failed attempt and many chuckles later, he managed to find his footing. He slowly walked around underneath the trees while Arin watched him. Realizing that she would be at a disadvantage if she couldn't walk, she started to try and get up herself.

Her first attempt at standing up failed miserably, she ended up on her back with her paws sticking up in the air.

"Who's the klutz now," he laughed walking toward her. Her face turned red making him laugh harder. Arin rolled over unto her stomach and tried again but with Conors aid this time. As he tried to assist her, he lost his footing making him stumble on top of her. Blood immediately flooded into his cheeks.

After a few minutes, they were both up and about looking around. Leafs crunched beneath their paws as they grew more accustom to walking on four legs. After taking in as much of the new sights, sounds and smells as they were able to, they noticed the sound of running water off in the distance. That's when they both realized how dehydrated they were.

"Do you hear that Conor?" Arin asked from where he was standing next to a rose bush.

"I do, we should go and find the source of the water." Conor said taking his gaze away from a bird flying through the canopy to look at her.

"Lead the way." She said smiling at him.

"Let me grab my bag first," Conor said walking over to his bag, only to see that everything was still littering the ground around it. Once he managed to stuff everything back into the bag and shut it, he slung it over his shoulder with it landing in between his wings.  With Conor leading the way, they both made their way towards the sound of the running water.

"How much longer do you think until we make it to the water Conor?" Arin asked.

"Judging on how loud it's getting, probably not long at all.

"Well then, let's go" She turned her head and started almost bounding into the direction of the water. Because of her excitement she didn't realize that it was just beyond a bush she had leapt over. She plunged face first into the water squealing with surprise the entire way.

Conor laughed to himself from what she had just done. As soon as Arin burst out of the water breathing hard from the experience, she glared at Conor. Not being about to hold it in anymore because of her glare he burst out laughing. After Arin stood up and regained her composure, she took a couple deep gulps of water and waded through it towards the shore. When she made it out of the water, she walked over to Conor still blushing with blood red cheeks and shoved him with her side. He fell over because of it from laughing so hard but ended up coughing due to his throat being dry. After Conor shirked off his bag from his back with it making a soft thud on the ground, he quickly strode over to the water and also gulped it down in large quantities. When he was finished, he laid down next to the water's edge. Arin watching him the entire time, decided to join him. They lounged there until the sky began to turn different shades of orange and purple.

Before dusks gave into the night, they decided to test their wings and attempt to acquire their full range of motions. Neither of them where able to do more than flap them in sync and stretch them to their full lengths.

"This is going to be a lot harder than I thought. But we'll have to learn sooner or later." Arin said, folding her wings back onto her side.

"If we didn't then what would have been the point of having these?" Conor said while shuffling his wings slightly. "Anyways Arin, we'll have to learn how to use them if we want to figure out where we are more quickly."

"Agreed, but I don't think we will be able to fly for a while Conor and I'm tired from today's events" She said drooping slightly. "If there was only something to eat," said quietly.

"So am I" He said. "Well in that case" He said looking at her with a grin. "I'll go see if I can catch a fish or two in the river; could you start a fire Arin?"

"I think so," Said Arin while bobbing her head slightly.

That night, while they sat around a fire that Conor ended up helping Arin make, Arin cooked the fish that Conor had managed to catch in the fading light. It wasn't as hard as he had thought. He dug out a small pool in the sandy shore line and corralled a few fish into it. They ate in silence because even with what they went through during the day; neither of the two could think of something to speak about that hadn't all ready been discussed.

They let the fire burn as they lay down in the grass next to each other. As the night went on, Arin fell asleep leaving Conor to stare up at the stars alone. I've never seen so many stars before he thought, I guess with everything that went on back at home, I never had the time to just look up. He concluded still staring up into the cloudless night sky.

A cool breeze blew over the two making Arin subconsciously shiver. She huddled towards a source of warmth she could feel next to her. Conor felt her warmth grow as she scooted next to him, and then stiffened as she brushed up against his side. Not really knowing what to do, he sat there staring at her sleeping form. Then it hit him like a rock to the face. Is it possible that she could actually have feelings for me? No, that's not it. He pondered on the thought for a while as he looked back up towards the sky.

Conor felt her shiver, snapping him out of his thoughts. He still didn't know what to do but he had to do something. He looked around him using the moon light to try and find something to cover Arin with but then deadpanned when he realized that that would be impossible. What could I use, what could I use?  He thought to himself over and over again; then he finally gazed over his wing. He closed his eyes and sighed.  Why not? He thought. After a moment of looking back at Arin, he slowly stretched out his wing and draped it over her. Soon after, He felt her shivering subside to be replaced by what he thought was humming. He could faintly feel the vibrations coming from her.

After a moment, he laid his head down in the soft grass to fall asleep while listening to her steady breathing and the fires crackle while thinking, what on earth have we gotten into?

Unknown to the two dragons sleeping next to the dying fire, a pair of orange eyes was watching them. The creature, to whom the eyes belonged to, had stumbled upon them as they were bedding down for the night.

"I wonder who they are." It said to its self in a whisper. "It would probably be better if I introduced myself to them tomorrow when they are awake." Said the creature again as it walked off a short distance before settling down for the night.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the sun came up from behind a single lone peak a good distance away, its rays snaked their way through the oaks branches and leaves showing their selves on Arins face; awakening her from her slumber. Not wanting to wake up yet she tried to move away from the light but something was preventing her from doing so. That's when she felt something warm laying across her back like a blanket.
I don't remember falling asleep with a blanket. Arin thought when she tried to move her wings but was met with resistance. She lifted her head up to look at what is slung across her back to find out what it was.
What met her eyes confused her at first. She saw a jet black translucent leathern wing sprawled out across her back, effectively covering her. She followed the silver scales that the membrane was attached to and quickly realized that it was Conor's wing draped over her. The next thing she noticed was that Conor had curled himself around her; his tail wrapping around the outside of hers making it possible for her to see it.  She was also able to feel the soft but steady rise and fall of his chest on her back. Her face instantaneously flushed from the position they were in.  After a couple moments of regaining her senses, she put her head back down on the grass and closed her eyes, beginning to think.
Arin ultimately decided against waking Conor so she could get up. She was enjoying the feeling of his wing slung across her back like a protective shield keeping her warm from the cool morning air. Did we snuggle up against each other while we were sleeping or was he feeling bold enough to drape his wing over me before falling asleep? No, he wouldn't do this on purpose. Would he? Does he actually have feelings for me? No he doesn't unless… she trailed off in her thoughts pondering back and forth on the subject.
Arin was snapped out of her thoughts when she felt Conor begin to stir. "He's waking up." She sighed under her breath. I don't want to get up just yet, I like this too much. She thought while feigning asleep.
Conor yawned, forgetting about the night's event. He opened his eyes only to see bright golden scales in front of his nose. He then remembered what he did during the night before he fell asleep. I really hope she's not awake right now. Conor thought.
He slowly lifted his wing off of Arin and placed it back against his side. He then carefully uncurled himself from around her to try and not awaken her from her sleep. Arin involuntarily shivered when Conor had removed himself from her, but didn't break her façade because she wanted to see what he would do.
Conor stood up thinking that he had successfully managed to not wake her up and looked at what he thought was her sleeping form. He stretched himself the best way that he could and slowly started to walk towards the river to take a drink from it.
I'll wake her once I catch us some breakfast. Conor thought glancing over his shoulder towards where Arin was lying in the grass. He tested the temperature of the water with one of his clawed toes before walking into the slow paced current of water.
Once Conor had waded into the water, Arin laid there staring at him for a moment before rolling onto her back. She spread her wings out to their full extent and stretched in what she thought was one of the most awkward stretches in her life. She stayed like that leting the morning rays of the sun warm her pure white belly as she drifted off into deep thought.
As Arin lay there lost in her thoughts, she didn't notice when Conor walk up to the base of her tail that was pointed towards the river. He stood there with his head slightly tilted to the side as he looked at her.
"Arin?" Conor said with amusement with the way she was laying on the ground.
"Conor!" Arin exclaimed trying to flip herself over as fast as she could but ended up only making it onto her side. "Don't do that, you almost gave me a heart attack," she said quickly due to adrenalin coursing through her veins and with an exasperated tone. Conor chuckled softly from her reaction and helped her onto her feet.
"You know," Conor paused glancing up at the sun. "I don't think it would be possible to tan yourself anymore." He said beginning to laugh again. "Anyway, are you going to help me get this fire started again so I can cook our breakfast?" He asked after his chuckles died away.
"Sure, and no I wasn't tanning myself, I was just letting the sun warm me." She said as she stood up looking over at the remainders of the fire.
"Whatever makes you happy," Conor teased while smiling. She glared at him but didn't say anything.
When they had managed to relight the fire, Arin quickly skinned and cooked the fish. After they had eaten their breakfast, they just sat there lying in the sun enjoying each other's company. Whenever she thought he wasn't looking, Arin would admire him as the sun's rays glistened off of his slick silver scales. Conor knew what she was doing but didn't let her know that he did.
"I wonder what our parents must be thinking right now." Conor said with an after though, not really thinking much of it. "On that fact, didn't your parents want you to be a doctor?"
"Yes they do and that's what I want to pursue," She responded with a wave of her paw until reality caught up with her. "Oh goodness!" Arin exclaimed with a sharp breath and sat up on her haunches. "My parents are probably worried sick right now. They probably called the police!" She said while standing up "And how am I going to become a doctor like this?" She finished gesturing toward herself.
"Arin calm down for a moment and think, there's almost nothing that we are able to do at this moment because we have no idea where we are." Conor said calmly trying to settle Arin down.
"What, how can you be so calm about this situation we're in? And don't even begin to tell me that there is nothing we can do. There has to be something; I refuse to give up on going home." When she finished, Conor could have sworn that he saw a bolt of electricity jump from one of Arins paws into the ground but he played it off as just his imagination.
Conor just looked at the distressed dragoness in front of him and sat back on his haunches shaking his head.
"Don't you dare shake your head at me Conor," she said with a snarl scaring herself with how ferocious she sounded.
As Conor sat there he tried to think of what to say to speak reason back into her. After a moment, he found the words to say. "Arin, just follow my reasoning for a moment." He said waiting for her response. She sighed and nodded.
"Do you think it would be a good idea to go home and say to our parents that we are okay in this form? I mean, they would most likely freak out along with the rest of the town. We're dragons for crying out loud. It would probably cause mass panic and send everyone fleeing. Not to mention the government would probably start looking for us and if they find us, they would probably run experiments on us and keep you and I locked up. Finally," Conor paused to take a deep breath and calm his growing frustration from his rant.  "We don't even know where we are." He finished with a sigh and turned around towards the river.
Arins gaze fell from Conor to the grass below her in defeat. "There's no way we are going to find our way home, are we?" She mumbled with tears building in her eyes. Conor turned towards her just in time to watch the first tear drop from her nose. He instantly realized that what he said had a huge impact on her. If there was one thing he hated to do more than knock sense into Arin, it was watching her cry. He never liked seeing her like this as they grew up and certainly didn't like it now. He decided to do the only thing he could think of which was to try and comfort her. He walked up beside her with his wing extended and draped it over her back, pulling her close. He concluded that this would be the draconic form of a hug.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for it to come out as harsh as it did." he said softly picking her face up with a paw.
"Do you mean that? She said stifling a sob.
"I do." Conor said whipping a tear from her face, she noticeably calmed down and her sobs became less frequent until they stopped. Arin leaned against his side, putting her weight on him as they sat there. She eventually broke eye contact with Conor and lied down in the grass on her stomach with her head on top of one of his paws.
"Arin." Conor said quietly.
"Y-ya?" She stuttered looking up at him from his paw with glossy eyes.
"The truth is I'm also worried that we won't be able to find our way back home. Even so, if we'll be able to become what we once were again. Human." He sighed, looking at her sparkling green tear filled eyes. He broke eye contact and looked up towards the sky.
"Conor?" Arin said whipping a tear away from her face with a paw.
"Yes Arin?" He said looking back down at her golden tear streaked face.
"I feel so alone out here. I don't know what do to anymore. Being turned into a dragon and being spit out into the middle of nowhere is so nerve racking." She concluded, letting another tear pill out of her eye and drip onto Conors paw.
"Now that you mention it, I have to agree with you but you aren't alone." Conor said with a smile as he continued to look into her eyes.
"You know, I've wanted to tell you something for a long time but I could never find the courage to do so." Arin said breaking the growing silence. "And to think that it took me being transformed into a dragon and almost completely losing my mind just to gain the courage to ask you such a simple question," she said.
Conor perked up at her statement but did not interrupt her so she could finish.
"Do you," she paused taking in a quivering breath. "Do you like me?" She asked while looking up at him.
Conor froze on the spot and almost went rigid. It was as if everything around him had suddenly stopped. Did she just ask if I liked her? He thought to himself; his mind going haywire with thoughts flying in every direction. After a moment passed, He finally managed to pluck the thought that would prove to be the most relevant.  If I say no, then that would be the end of that but it would probably hurt her feelings severally. Not to mention that it would also be somewhat of a lie, but if I say yes than I would be committing myself to her. Which path to choose, which path to choose. He continuously thought.
Making up his mind, Conor peered back down at her to give his answer until he noticed that everything around him was frozen, frozen in time. What on earth is going on? He thought looking around with his eyes blinking a few times. That's when he noticed the slight tinge of blue coating everything is eyes laid upon, including Arin. Then as soon as he noticed it, everything lost the blue hue and everything began to move again. As if on cue, Arin said something.
"Well?" She wasn't sure if she should have said anything but she was dying to know the answer and tossed any negative thoughts as to what might happen is she asked for his answer out the metaphorical window.
 "Oh, um . . . yes." Conor wasn't ready for what happened next. Arin squealed with joy and almost kissed him right then and there but ended up knocking him onto his side because of her standing up from her position next to him.
What did I just get myself into? He thought to himself as the world finally caught back up with him. He shoved the thought about what happened when everything turned blue to the back of his mind and looked back into Arins sparkling green eyes. He found her grin contagious and started to smile as well.
"You're such a softie, you know that?" Arin said leaning back onto his side peacefully knowing that she received the answer she'd been waiting to hear for such a long time.
"Nah, I've just never been able to loosen up is all." Conor answered acting tuff but Arin started giggling and he soon joined her.
After some time had passed, they separated their embrace and stood up side by side with each other the entire time. They started walking towards the river. But before either of them could take a couple steps, Conor heard and almost inaudible crack come from the trees behind them. He spun around glaring at the brush from whence the noise came but didn't do anything further than that.
"Conor what's wrong." Arin asked with fear just lacing the edge of her tone.
"There's something hiding in the trees over there" Conor stated looking in the direction the noise had come from.
"Are you sure you aren't just imagining things?" Arin asked looking where he was.
"Well, then let me just make sure it really was my imagination," He said before walking over to where he thought the bustling noise had come from. He scanned the trees and bushes around where he thought it had come from and even stuck his head into one of the bushes. When he was satisfied with his search not turning up anything, he turned around and started walking back to Arin.
Before he could take a step he heard a stick snap from above him. He looked up and caught sight of something red hiding in the leaves. As he opened his mouth to call out whomever it was that is hiding in the tree. The one who he'd seen cut him off with a single, shy word.
"Hello," said a nervous child sounding voice from above him.
"Who's there?" Conor asked lightening up after he had picked up on the shyness of the one above him.
A dragon or better yet, a dragoness poked her head out from behind a branch so he could see her. She was young and couldn't be more than a couple of years old years old. She jumped off of the branch, her wings keeping her aloft as she glided towards Conor and landed in front him.
"And who might you be?" Arin asked before he could utter another word, walking up next to him.
"I'm Kiki," Said the young dragoness nervously.
"Well, it is nice to meet you Kiki, I'm Arin and this is Conor," she said gesturing to herself and then Conor likewise kissing him on the cheek for a brief moment causing Conors face to turn red in stark contrast with his silver scales.
The small red dragon smiled at Arins antics but her smile faded away almost as soon as it came, it reminded her of something sad from her past. None the less, Kiki's smile returned and as she watched the two, her orange hide glistening in the morning sun light amplifying her grin. Five golden short golden horns protruded from her head without any curve at all. She flapped her maroon wings before folding them against her side as she sat watching Arin and Conor.
Conor looked at Arin as she giggled with a childish light he hadn't seen from her since they were kids. Within a couple moments his embarrassment faded away and his focus turned back towards the little dragon in front of him.
"It's nice to make your acquaintance Kiki," Conor said with a smile as he looked at her.
"What does acqu - aein - tunce mean?" Kiki asked tilting her head to the side in confusion.
"It's another way to say 'nice to meet you'" Arin explained turning around beckoning both Conor and Kiki to follow her towards the burnt out fire. "By the way, where are your parents," She asked Kiki.
"I," Kiki paused for a moment making both Arin and Conor stop and turn towards her. "I don't know." She said looking down at the ground. "They disappeared one night after I had fallen asleep. When I woke up, they were nowhere to be found and I've been alone ever since." She finished looking up at Conor then Arin.
"You poor thing, you can come with us if you'd like." This earned Arin a funny look from Conor. "Well that is if it's ok with Conor." Arin said giving Conor a stern look. Conor didn't know what it was about that look but whenever she wielded it, he would always give in and it seemed the look had the same affect even in this form.
Sighing in defeat, Conor relented shaking his head slightly. "It's fine with me." He said looking up at the bright blue sky.
Kiki smiled at Conor. Without warning, she ran up to him and wrapped her arms around his front foreleg in a hug. Conor looked down at Kiki with a startled expression plastered upon his face. Not knowing what to do, he looked up to Arin for help. She just stood where she was with a warm smile on her face. Conor being placed in his position did the only think he could think of. He hugged the little red dragoness back with his opposite foreleg. A few moments passed and Arin was about to ask Kiki something but what Conor did next derailed any thought entirely. Conor picked up the small dragoness and placed her on his back in-between his wings.
"I'm not really sure either," he sheepishly said smiling at Arin.
Kiki had started laughing when Conor picked her up. "Stop it," she giggled "It tickles." She managed to breathe out between fits of laughter.
"Maybe it was your fatherly instincts kicking in," She teased sticking her tongue out at him.
"Ha ha, very funny," was Conors sarcastic reply as he looked back at Kiki continuously poking her with his nose making her laugh harder. Kiki eventually grabbed his nose with her front two paws and pulled herself onto his head. She managed to turn herself around letting her tail and hind legs fall between Conors two horns. She then placed her paws in front of Conors eyes turning it into a game.
"I can't see, I can't see!" Conor said pretending to panic, turning his head this way and that.
"I used to do this with my parents all the time," Kiki laughed, removing her small paws from in front of Conors eyes. But she began to waver slightly as she remembered them.
"Don't worry sweetie, we'll help you find them," Said Arin walking in front of Conor.
"Thank you Arin" Kiki said sniffling wiping at her eyes "And thank you too Conor for letting me ride up here," she said extending her head out and looking down into Conors face so he could see her.
"No problem, it was actually kind of fun," he said smiling back at the little dragoness on his head.
When they made it back around the burnt out campfire, it was around mid day and the sun was directly over head. "So Kiki, where are you from?" Arin asked with curiosity. She wanted to know where they are.
"I lived in a cave not too far from here that is until," she trailed off.
"It's ok; you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."
"No it's fine," Kiki said. "There was a really bad storm a couple nights ago and it caused the roof to cave. I was lucky to have gotten out of there alive, let along without a single scratch." She finished looking downcast. "But anyway, where are you from?" Kiki asked, her smile returning in a heartbeat.
"Arin and I are from somewhere very far away and are not sure it exists anymore" Conor partially lied because there wasn't any point in telling her that they were from earth or a different part of the planet and that they were once human. He received an odd but well hidden look from Arin.
"I see," said Kiki; her face contorted in a frown as she thought. "So you're from beyond the mountain?" She asked.
"I guess you could say that," Conor replied looking at the mountain just barely viewable from below the trees.
Arin walked beside Conor and the three of them spent a while staring at the mountain in thought. None of them said anything as they watched grey colored clouds revolve around the snow capped peak. It wasn't long before the silence was interrupted by a question.
"Hay Arin, do you think we should try at learning how fly again?" Conor asked looking from the dark shaded mountain towards Arin.
"I don't see why not." She said shrugging her shoulders.
"Wait," Kiki said looking at Arin then Conor from on top of his head. "The two of you don't know how to fly?" She queered with a raised brow.
"Well" Arin paused glancing at Conor. "No, we don't."
"Well if it makes you feel any better, I can't fly."
"Why not" asked Arin.
"My wings aren't fully developed yet, I'm too young." She said looking back at her wings. "But I am able to glide."
"Now it makes sense as to how you were able to glide down from that tree," Conor said with a nod towards the tree. "But how did you get up it?" He asked Kiki.
"I climbed it, we do have claws you know," She said looking down at her paws.
"Fair enough," was Conors reply. "Anyway, how about we get started?"
As the hours began to pass by, both Arin and Conor quickly learned how to continuously beat their wings in sink and how vault themselves off of the ground. Though, they didn't get it at their first go. The first time Conor attempted to vault himself off of the ground when he had gained stability with his wings, he leapt into the air forcing his leathern appendages toward the ground creating a down draft but didn't bring them back up fast enough. He ended up inverted on the ground with a mouth full of dirt. Arins first attempt happened in almost the same fashion Conors did, but she landed on her side instead.
It took many attempts and a few pointers from Kiki but they both managed to achieve flight just as the sun was beginning to fall below the horizon. Kiki cheered them on during the entire ordeal and laughed when one of them made a significant mistake.
"What a rush," Arin said stretching her sore wings. "I didn't know learning how to fly was so difficult."
"Or that fun," Conor replied lying down in the grass next to her. He stayed there as Arin and Kiki lay down on either side of him. When the sun began to fall behind the lone mountain Conor decided to go hunting before night came upon the world.
As Conor was hunting, Arin and Kiki gathered wood for the fire. By the time Conor made it back with his kill, which was a small doe, the two girls had finished setting up the fire pit. Arin lit the fire with a few red coals buried beneath the ashes. Conor quickly skinned the doe because Arin couldn't stomach doing it with him but once he had finished and ripped chunks of meat off of the carcass, she placed them on top of a rock and put it next to the fire.
The three of them ate in silence and once they had finished, Kiki yawned signifying she was tired. When Kiki fell asleep in between Arins front paws, Conor walked over to her and put a wing over her back.
