personality

Soft-Spoken | Open-Minded | Polite | Anxious | Intelligent | Shy | Naive | Determined | Easily Inhibited | Two-Faced (See situational)
Highly situational: Talkative to the point of 'motormouthedness' | Peppy | Friendly | Vulgar | Prideful (minorly)
Daisuke is an obviously intelligent young man. He's easily able to pick up small details to put an entire puzzle together, and actually quite eloquent with his words....if only he could get over his near crippling fear of rejection and misunderstanding. When you first meet him, he's much like any shy person in the world, only much worse. He stutters often, shakes, can't actually form sentences sometimes. It's not a farce of any kind, he's simply...that afraid of being judged, which makes him that nervous. As you get to know him, however, and he gets used to your presence, it'll become much, much easier to talk to him. Friends of Daisuke find that he's actually quite a charismatic person, easy to talk to, and quite unabashed to speak on more traditionally embarrassing topics. This isn't to say that it's hard to get him to go right back to being the stuttery, overly-polite person he normally is. As casual as he is about most things, if he notices someone else becoming uncomfortable, it will cause him to become incredibly self-conscious and shut his mouth pretty quickly. As well, he's not one to want to push his opinions on other people, so he's very content to leave others as they are as long as he himself is able to 'put up' with whatever attitude it is.
As shy and easily intimidated as Daisuke is, however, he still has a sense of pride that often leads to his downfall, especially when it comes to playing games. If there is a topic he's knowledgeable about, Daisuke won't hesitate to attempt to go on for long periods of time on the subject, pointing out formulas, strategies, builds, what have you, to create the perfect playthrough set. 'Perfect' being purely subjective, of course.

history

Daisuke Mori, a young man born in Isumi of the Chiba prefecture, was of a much better off family than some of the others, but this had mainly been due to both of his parents working. In fact, his parents, Izumi and Hideki Mori barely worried much about paying attention to someone that was simply supposed to make them look better. The nanny did that. A young woman of her early twenties, Nanao Mamoru, had been hired on as Daisuke's caretaker while his parents were busy with work, which had been virtually all the time. She'd fed, clothed, and entertained the boy, and as soon as he'd reached school age, she taught him, homeschooling the boy until he was of graduating age. With so much time spent with Daisuke, it was no surprise that some of Nanao's interests would have rubbed off on such an impressionable young boy.

A love of electronic entertainment, to be exact. Television, mainly at first. The two would watch anime, even play and laugh as their favorite characters. Eventually, Daisuke's nanny brought something new to play with! It was called...a Playstation. And thus, Daisuke had been introduced into the world of video games, mainly puzzle based and RPGs. Turn-Based, Real-Time, games with multiple endings...a whole slew of video games were at Daisuke's disposal, and, as he grew, he's become more and more interested in video games, from platformers, then graduating to MMORPGs. It hadn't been long until he had found the game of Rhyme and took an unrivaled interest in it at the age of 19, which led to him meeting a special young lady....no, not a woman. His Allmate, Asuka. A small terrier model Allmate with a fiery personality. Since Daisuke had taken such an interest in the game of Rhyme, he'd decided to move to the island and attend college with his parents' permission. They had agreed that, as long as he'd stayed in school and not allowed his obsession with Rhyme to overtake his studies, they would pay for his room and board. The plan was for Daisuke to arrive on Midorijima island, get settled, and then look into purchasing an allmate, but Ms. Nanao had other plans. Before the boy left Chiba, she had an allmate imported from Midorijima, having gifted Asuka to him and saying that she would keep him company if he'd ever been lonely during school.

And he wasn't. At all, really. Asuka kept him company, despite being a rather...ahem...abrasive allmate at times. Daisuke worked hard during college, but, due to his homeschooling a majority of his life, found it hard to actually...mesh with his classmates, who'd all seemed to have their own circles of friends that Daisuke was all too timid to attempt breaching. He'd actually not even signed up for Rhyme after getting settled in Midorijima like planned, having gotten heavily into sewing and conventions that were held in Midorijima, as well as focusing more on his art. In order to keep both archived, and make some extra money, he started a blog to keep track of his adventures during conventions, and art he may have been showcasing, had he ever garnered a table or some of the like.

Daisuke had actually only rediscovered his interest in Rhyme at Twenty-one, having made friends with several other fans of the game through a cosplaying community. So, he'd signed up for the game, thinking he was able to simply play casually, and at home. Unfortunately, he was wrong. The fear of loss and humiliation in front of his peers kept him from playing the actual game. Instead, Daisuke watched rhyme battles online, analyzed sets and strategies, made sure everything he would have tried looked good...on paper.

But as he'd learned the hard way with many games he played, putting strategies into practice against people with wit different than his own was much, much harder to pull off. The first time he'd actually even played Rhyme was embarrassing as any first loss could have been, but it was so much more. He had the right sets, the right moves...but is execution was so poor due to thinking too far ahead, that he'd practically caused himself to lose. Asuka yelling at him, his opponent laughing at him, it honestly just made Daisuke want to crawl into a hole. One spectator, however, had extended a hand of sorts to him. One Asama Ryuuen, the man who Daisuke would currently have know as his team's leader, had offered to help Daisuke improve his skills at Rhyme...on the condition that he'd joined the man's team. Daisuke had actually hesitated at first, being unsure as to whether he would have been actually useful, especially given his shameful display only minutes previous. It took some convincing, but Daisuke had eventually agreed to joining his team, hoping that he would improve at actually playing rhyme than simply watching and assuming. Maybe he'd actually be an asset? Who knew.

relationships

:bulletred:> Romantic Love | :bulletorange:> Very Close/Like Family | :bulletyellow:> Best Friend | :bulletgreen:> Close Friend | :bulletblue:> Friend | :bulletpurple:> Acquaintance | :bulletwhite:> Practically a stranger | :bulletblack:> Dislike
:bulletyellow: ASUKA| // allmate // A fiery, headstrong puppy that seems to do more talking that he himself does. If not for her, he wouldn't be able to function out of doors at all, unless in costume. Usually tasked with 'babysitting' her partner when he goes out for normal occasions, his wild and willful changes in personality from situation to situation annoys her greatly. She's often attemping to convince Daisuke to stop attempting to work on his confidence behind the 'wall' that is his in character theatrics.

:bulletwhite: MORI IZUMI // mother // Daisuke's mother. He does not resent his mother, but she does not feel like a mother to him in much more than name.

:bulletwhite: MORI HIDEKI // father // Daisuke's father. Like his mother, Daisuke does not resent him, but he does not feel very much like a parent to him at all.

:bulletorange: MAMORU NANAO // Nanny/Caretaker // Practically Daisuke's mother in every aspect except blood. Loves him very much despite having been paid to raise him since he was very young. Ordered Asuka from Midorijima before Daisuke left for college as a birthday/going away gift.

:bulletred::bulletyellow: KAWAGUCHI JUNPEI // boyfriend // Daisuke's current boyfriend, having started as a simple friend from school. "It's a weirdly experimental relationship." the both of them say. ASUKA doesn't like him...

:bulletgreen: YAO // the 2% homo tomo // A friend that had initially thought him to be a cute girl. Daisuke makes fun of him constantly for it, but in exchange, allows Yaozu to ask him any stupid question about homoromanticism that he'd like. Still doesn't understand how Yaozu can imagine Kaz doing ridiculous things, but still can't think of how Daisuke interacts with his boyfriend. Doesn't believe that Yaozu is 100% straight.

:bulletgreen: KAZ // ojiisan onii-san // An older man that Daisuke met while out getting Asuka repaired one day, then later went out for dinner on a 'not date'. There was much confusion on Kazuma's end of that night. Acts like a sort of older brother to Daisuke most of the time...but Daisuke isn't sure if Kaz still remembers he's not a girl....

:bulletblue:RYUU // team leader // A young man he'd met on one of his adventures through Rhyme. He'd been having difficulty with the game and Ryuu had decided to help him out, due to the kid still being pretty terrible at playing.

:bulletblue: SAITO-SAN // not ginger-san // A friend he'd met over twitter. Seems to like cooking and talking about his siblings often. His arguments with Kazuma and Yaozu are entertaining.

:bulletblue:EVAN // teammate // A high-schooler that affectionately calls him 'Daisy'.

:bulletblue:KAZU // teammate // An older member of momentu(M)ori. Flirty nature kind of rubs Daisuke the wrong way.

extra

t i d b i t s

|| He actually has a drawn persona named Setzer that he lives through when it comes to internet-related affairs.

|| IT SHOULD BE NO SURPRISE THAT HE IS GOOD AT DOING MAKEUP (that doesn't mean he'll do yours tho--)

|| He finds things like nail painting and pedicures hella relaxing.

|| He can't cook too well, but tries to learn. The most he knows how to cook is eggs and pudding.

|| He has a tendency of eating junk food too often.

|| He's the owner of an unfortunately high metabolism, so it's very hard for him go gain weight. He gets sick a little more often than he should because of this.

|| Most of his living expenses are paid for by his parents, making the money he makes through art and blogging more of a source of disposable income than anything.

|| Outside of spring and summer months, he never wears anything less than 3/4 sleeve shirts, so his tattoos are often hidden. (Ref: here) Though he'll still attempt to cover up. It is most likely to catch him wearing something with no sleeves at home.

|| He runs an online blog showcasing both his art and the conventions he goes to whenever he goes. Most people who know him from his blog assume him to be a girl because of his cosplays.

|| He's had bad experiences during cosplaying, so Daisuke doesn't like being hugged or touched suddenly.

|| He honestly prefers his nicknames over his real name, so most people tend to call him Setzer or Daisy.

|| It's somewhat difficult to see, but Daisuke has a stud in his nose, a pair of Dahlia Bites (Corners of mouth) and snakebites (rings on either side of his lower lip).

|| He collects game systems, and sends older models he's found home for Nanao to take care of.

|| He cosplays and attends conventions often.

|| You will never see Daisuke attending a convention out of cosplay. He does not care if he is pressed for time and will wear an old cosplay with minor fixes/updates if he absolutely needs to.

p e r s o n a l ✖ q u i r k s

|| He enjoys cosplaying, for he feels he's able to work on his people skills without judgement, being under a 'guise', so he is very often about as peppy and obnoxious as he is when behind a screen.

|| 'Fruit Rolls, not Gender Roles' is basically his motto. He's pretty adamant about living life on his own terms, despite knowing the looks he knows he's going to get will make him anxious. Also fruit gummi rolls are the best fucking thing ever.

|| If it's not obvious already, he is very aware and very self conscious of his personality flaws, and tries to correct them, but often comes up short due to incorrect methods of doing so.

|| There are times when he fails to be as peppy as he can while in cosplay, which will, at the very least, cause him to begin stuttering almost uncontrollably.

|| Speaking of, he tends to stutter a lot;;;

|| He has a horrible time making and keeping eye contact with people, so he wears his bangs long/in front of his eyes to keep from being intentionally 'rude' on top of his already bad social habits. He's had them cut at his boyfriend's request. Daisuke thinks he looks cute, but is bothered that he has nothing to hide his face.

|| If your name is longer than 4 letters or 2 syllables, expect him to shorten it in order to prevent stuttering or possibly slipping over your name.

|| When talking about something he has interest in ( such as video games ), Daisuke is very easily excited and can go on for long spiels about strategy, calculations, and the like if he has played that specific game.

|| He overthinks shit a lot, which ends up being a good thing for rhyme battle tactics, but not so good when it comes to people--
