H o b b i e s
» Maria loves watching sporting events, whether its actually going to a game or watching it on the television. The sports she watches are Baseball and Boxing, and Soccer once in a while. As a Panamanian, she is both a very passionate spectator and a player, it's very easy to see her let loose when it comes to sports.

» Maria's favorite dances include the Salsa and the Rumba. Salsa is very popular in Panama due to the actual salsa music - Ruben Blades (renounced "King of Salsa") is a Panamanian and a national treasure of Panama, because of him this music and dance is very popular and admired not only in Panama but in all of Latin America and Spain. Rumba is also very big and popular in Panama. Many big festivals are held for Panama Rumba's. It is the dance of the party in her country. Naturally, she also loves the Tamborito, since it is her national dance, even though its on the calmer side. [See more on my dancing headcanons HERE]

» She sews. A lot. The Pollera Gala, being the most iconic pollera dress and most admired and complex in her country, is a big source of Panamanian pride. It was brought by Spain when Panama was created as a colony and each and every pollera is hand made and authentic/unique. Being held at home, overshadowed by her larger guardians (Peru, Colombia), Maria stayed home often and developed a habit of sewing polleras as they became more widely distributed from Los Santos to all of Panama. It became an almost reflex and she loves sewing, sewing as a whole more than doing embroidery. She used to get cuts and punctures on her fingers from time to time because of it.

» In Panama, women tend to wear long skirts and dresses even on the hottest days and modesty yet fashion is highly valued. Maria does the same, wearing her main dress (as shown on this page) or a pollera montuna on every day occasions. Shorts and tank tops are a definite for the beach and tours, and every day westernized clothing for trips to the urban parts of the country.

» Maria is a very flashy young lady and sometimes to the point of being said to "overdo it". She wants to stand out and be different, her national dress and costumes get honorable mentions for complexity and creativity. She also loves stylish things like clothing patterns and accessories, and styling her hair in different and sometimes complex ways. She is usually seen in a down to earth style but thrives for these things on certain occasions.

» Maria surprises people a lot with the way she acts. Usually she is seen as this nice girl, shy around ones she hardly talks to and gentle to nature, happy to practice her culture... and then BAM- She's a party animal at a big bash. Maria loves parties, and is up for one any day.

» She has a habit of saying "Buenas!" when entering any shop/store or the meeting room. In Panama, they tend to say Buenas rather than Buenos Dias or such, like in typical Spanish. She also has a moral of saying it 10 times a day.

» A lot of her internal blossoming and development throughout history is soul-y dependent on other nations and their aid, and when she was left alone with issues Panama had found getting out either unbearably hard or with harships as end results. That resulted to her fear of being left alone or without aid, yet also began to motivate Maria into the woman she is today; beginning to throw herself out there and depend on herself more, even though she knows she has a long way to go.

» Maria loves using hand gestures when she speaks, since it is a common factor Panamanians have when addressing other people. Example; she'd snap her fingers lightly if saying "Oiste?" and wave her hand around when speaking excitedly or dramatically, and point at her opposite palm when explaining something. etc.

F o o d & drink
» Some of her favorite foods are: Fruits, because they are generally very cheep in her country and Panama exports some of the best fruits (like bananas and watermelons); Chicken, especially in soup, since her national dish is Sancocho, which is a delicious Panamanian chicken soup with vegetables like corn all in a serving; Fish, because its very popular; and Panama Styled Ceviche as a light snack which is again popular and quite common; and Rice due to it being the most common domestic and cuisine necessity to Panamanians. Along with all of those, Maria absolutely loves any fried foods in all ways.

» Her favorite beverage (non-alcoholic; alcoholic would be beer) would be Chicheme, a Panamanian drink made from milk, sweet corn or cornmeal, cinnamon, and vanilla.

» She absolutely runs on coffee. Her favorite coffee brand is Duran, which shares the name with a very famous Panamanian boxer and is Panama's number one coffee brand. Her sister (Colombia) has always been the coffee capital of the world as well, so she grew up under the conditions and cannot go without a cup of coffee in the morning.

» Maria is very good at holding her alcohol. With national drinks (Panama Brand Beer, Seco Herrerano, etc.), of which Seco is often stronger than Vodka, and bars inside all her party clubs and such she has no problems with drinking.

M i s c.
» Because of the hot weather at her home, once humidity goes above 90%, Maria usually puts her hair up in a bun when shes alone in her house- that being a way to keep all her curls out of her way so she can keep cool. Her buns are excessively large due to all her hair.

» She's allergic to mosquito bites, they'll cause a rash if she gets bitten, and that's why Maria always has repellent. It's because panama was such a hot breeding ground for mosquitoes that carried malaria and yellow fever to the point where some parts of panama were uninhabitable until the early 1900s - by then there was a project that wiped out the mosquito population and finally allowed prosperity for people living in panama. she's allergic to represent the way mosquitoes used to hinder her entire population.

» She has really good English but still maintains a Spanish (or "Panamanian") accent. Her sentences are generally well structured because a lot of Panama speaks fluent English, tourism one of the largest things that runs her economy and tourists tend to be from a western culture. Panama was taught English by America himself during the early 1900s while he was focused on the Canal construction, and it is widely known in Panama that they love the idea of English. She loves and is very skilled at imitating the American accent.

» GOLD gold GOLD. She loves it, and if she has a choice of wearing jewelry, she would wear golden necklaces and bracelets. Panama has high gold quantities and was a gold stocking port during the Spanish times, and even in modern day its considered great to wear the accessories. Panama also has its traces to El Dorado, the lost city of Gold, due to historical connectivity with Colombia.

» Maria is Heterofelxable because of the fact that Panama's population is 85% Roman Catholic and 15% Protestant, following beliefs and "religious morals". However, naturally, as any nation, she can sometimes be bi-curious, thus the flexibility. (Heteroflexable = "I'm straight, but shit happens")

» She lives in her capital, Panama City, in a beach house near the Gulf of Panama, facing the Pacific Ocean. ( Admin's headcanon house for Maria is like this ) however she also owns a cozy home in Casco Viejo, and a vacation home in Bocas Del Toro.

» Maria owns two cars. One is a retro in restored condition; A 1955 Packard Clipper in the Super Panama model. When it comes to the second; because Asian car brands (specifically Japanese and Korean) are the best selling and most popular cars in Panama, Maria drives a pink Toyota Yaris.

» Maria loves Winnie The Pooh. Winnie the Pooh represents everything Panamanians love: he hangs out at Disneyland, he speaks English, you can make pinatas to look like him…etc. Panamanians young and old adore Winnie the Pooh almost as much as they adore Irving Saladino - he's awfully popular in Panama and the most favored Disney character.

» She likes playing the lottery, never turning down a little chance to 'win big' with a domestic ticket. Maria has a good hand at casinos as well, seeing as in the 50s-60s they were a giant trend in Panamanian society brought by western tourists.

» Maria has this thing for bird cages. She really likes birds, and many shops and such which display birds in a pretty painted-white cage seem to always attract a lot of attention from her. It's not the actual captivity, but well, she really likes birds in general. Panama is one of the bird watcher's havens after all.

» Maria really loves rock music, she has no problems differentiating it and enjoys rock from both England and America. She even has the Hard Rock Hotel Panama Megapolis, one of the main Hard Rock hotels and one of Latin America's hottest destinations. She'll never admit to it by now, claiming she forgot, but she had Van Halen's hit song "Panama" as her ring tone for at least a year when it first came out.

» Maria loves lace and knit. She adores tops and sweaters/pull-ons which are knitted or edged with a soft type of lace, one that reminds her of her national dresses.

» Her curl IS NOT an erogenous zone. However, these are her E-Zones: ★★★★★ = Insta turn-on ☆☆☆☆☆ = This is gonna take a while... ]

S n e a k y - skills
▹ swift hands, she's a skilful pickpocket. they go hand-in-hand with her incredibly fluent use of hand gestures when she speaks and her swift sewing-inclined fingers.
▹ very good hearing; if she doesn't hear you, she's most likely faking it or honestly not interested.
▹ imitates accents like a pro, but her speciality are the american and french accents. french because she speaks it near-fluent, american because it's a running gag in panama, for they love gringo accents, especially in spanish. she also has a perfect jamaican accent due to panamanian reggae culture being jamaican influenced, as well as the many jamaican immigrants.
▹ very swift in group debates and discussions, a pro at the marketing-like or business-setting 'think tank' way of coming to agreements when large groups are involved.
▹ has perfect rolling of her 'S' and her 'R's. panamanians love hissing (for the 'S'), it is used to get attention of waiters and its an innocent cat-calling technique.
▹ super patient, especially when it comes to waiting in lines.
▹ the perfect go-to lady if you're looking for a home nurse. over 98% of panamanians have their medical degree as general practicioners. she was a nurse during canal construction.
▹ she can put a quarter in her ear (x). it's a running gag in panama.

D e t a i l s
▹ when she blushes, the bridge of her nose actually gets the hottest
▹ even though she acts like she laughs very freely she actually watches her laughing because if she doesnt she snorts.
▹ her belly button is in between both innie and outie (example)
▹ she absolutely loves it when other people pay for her (panama's most significant historical experiences were all funded by other nations)
▹ she dislikes painting her nails in bright colors - you'll only ever see her wear french mani, nude/pastel pink or clear nailpolish. she also has gentle, naturally delicate hands (like these) because she had never been a nation bent on agriculture - rather, her hands are very un-worked since panama's economy is service based and bent on business - she's an office girl. she has handshake-ready hands.
▹ she has corner lip dimples
