========== WRITTEN TEST ==========

Wow… Café Obscurité? This is Café Obscurité?! This place looks like one of the best restaurants in town!  I’ve never actually gone inside here before… It must be a great place if they’re so expensive… Too bad I won’t be able to eat unless the Guild Representative is really nice and buys me some…

I make my way inside, and almost immediately a Castform at the front desk calls out to me. “Hey, lil’ Pichu! Is your name… Phil-ie-one? Phil-ee-one? Argh! Is it Phill-something?” I stop, hearing her try to guess how my name’s pronounced. I honestly can’t remember, which is a bit embarrassing really, but I guess that’s how it works when there’s nobody to say your name… Then I realise the Castform was still waiting for an answer. I nod, pulling my scarf towards my face, I feel a bit embarrassed for zoning out... “Mizumi! Come here!”

Behind myself, a Vaporeon walks in with several plates. “Yes, ma’am?” Ma’am? Last I heard, Castform were- Oh, stupid me! Gender association, of course…

“Take the kid here up to table 6, if you will.” The Vaporeon, Mizumi, nods, ducking down to my height and reaching out her hand to walk me to my table. “Come on, lil’ guy! I won’t bite, I Promise.” I know that, I just… Don’t want to touch you. It’ll hurt for me, and it’ll paralyse you… She eventually pulls back her hand, giving a solemn sigh. “OK then, have it your way…”

She guides me to a table in the corner, which is occupied by snoring Furret, leaning against the wall in his chair. Mizumi shook the chair a bit, his eyes snapping open as he flung in his seat, the chair going back to a peaceful rest. Wait, the dulled out eyes… Is it… As he placed his blue newsboy cap on, I knew it. It was Cuffin. He’s the Guild Representative?

He gives a quick wave as he notices me. “Hey there, kiddo! Pull up a seat and order your favourites, this one’s on the Guild’s checkbook!” What?!... Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I withhold my excitement as I calmly pull out a seat. I can barely wait to eat! “After all, can’t let this adorable mute go hungry now, can’t I?!” To that, Mizumi put her hands over her mouth, eyes wide open in shock.

“I’m so, so sorry, kid! I thought you were…” She’s hanging her head, and she’s just moved back a few feet. I shrug, showing a hopefully apologetic smile at her, hoping that would work. It seemed to, as she walked towards me for a pet. I quickly hop off before she could, giving a sigh. “Oh, you don’t like being touched? Sorry…” No, I just don’t want you paralysed…

Her face lights up as she quickly fumbles for something in her bag, before taking two menus, smiling. “It’s fine, tuts. I’ll have the usual.” Cuffin carelessly shoves one of the menus back to Mizumi without even looking at it, waiting for me to order. It’s clear that Mizumi here doesn’t exactly like Cuffin, considering the way she rolls her eyes.

That’s when she notices something. “Are you the one stealing the table 6 thingy?” I stand up, noticing that there are three number stands side-by-side, and they all have the number 6 on them. 666, of course.

“No, I found them on the ground,” the sarcasm was plainly obvious as he stared at her with a careless grin, as if he loves ticking the waiters off. I look back into my menu, trying to ignore the rest of the conversation as I look through it. Oh, they have rice here? Several kinds of rice even. After half a minute of deciding, I point at the rainbow rice. I mean, rice which has the colours of the rainbow thanks to the succulent juices in it? Yes please! Oh, and I also want to try this thickshake. Honestly surprised they sell them in a place like this. “Great! I’ll go place the orders!”

Before she leaves, she gives one last look at Cuffin, glaring at him. He doesn’t seem to notice. She must really not like him in the slightest. “Tuts there has no sense of humour,” Cuffin remarks, slumping into his seat again. His gaze seems to flip around a lot, as if he’s struggling to focus on any one thing. He must be having trouble seeing… Poor guy… I know I’d hate to lose my sight…

“So yeah, as you’ve probably realised by now, I work for this kid, Sundance. He made me promise to ask ya a few things before I go off on my own thing,” he explains to me, passing me a piece of paper and a pencil. Written on the paper is ‘Why do you wanna join the Hunters?’ Before I can start writing, he continues talking. “He’ll get his feathers in a bunch if I don’t, so humour me.”

His roll of the eyes shows that he doesn’t really like the question, and now I’m not sure if I even want to writie it down anymore… Still he did say to humour him, so I might as well. ‘Because they’re actually willing to let me work for them, and didn’t reject me on being a kid despite the fact I am legally emancipated.’ When I was finished, I show it to Cuffin, who carefully snatches it out of my hands and stares. Oh how I so wish I could talk, then I wouldn’t have to put him through this torture then…

Once he managed to read it through, he smirks, he must like the answer itself, I’m guessing… Then he crumples up the paper and tosses it behind himself, as it now lay meaningless to him. “Yeah, that’s us, looking at the details before making decisions…” He pulls out another piece of paper for me, but before I can read it he’s already pulling it back, scrunching it up. “Don’t worry about that one, little buddy.”

He brings out another piece of paper, rolling his eyes at this one as well. This one read ‘What can you bring to the Hunters? What skills or talents can you utilize for us?’ Again he doesn’t seem very interested in it, Well I guess it’s time to change that…

On the bottom, I write down ‘I’m suck an adorable little Pichu, and I’m quite good at observation, being mute and all, and I can always manipulate others through my cuteness, despite being mute. I can also climb through narrow places easily, so there’s that. Being legally emancipated also means that I can be in kid’s areas and more professional areas, allowing me to be a set of ears in more places than others can.’ OK, that was longer than expected.

Again Cuffin snatches it up from me, and again he’s having difficulty reading it. I feel so sorry for him… I wish his sight could magically get better… “Yeah, yeah, I gotcha. I guess we’ll get to see some of that soon enough.” What? “Don’t get me wrong; your answer don’t mean you’re gonna be taken or thrown out. This is basically… Formalities…” Oh, I was worried for a second. False alarm. “Yeah… Formalities. I think that’s the word he used. Whatever that means.”

I grab a handkerchief from the table and begin writing on that. ‘Formality: a thing that is done simply to comply with convention, regulations, or custom.’ Cuffin grabs the handkerchief, again reading it with struggle. With a scowl he tossed it behind himself. “Alright, smart guy, enough of that.” With the lack ofjoking or smirking, I think I just insulted him… And now I feel like a really big jerk… That’s when he pulls out another piece of paper, this one reading ‘Are you against doing anything the Royal Guard aren’t going to like if they catch you doing them?’

WHAT?! He knows about the thievery already?! I grab the paper, furiously scribbling ‘I follow Gede’s standards, alright?!’ Cuffin snatches the paper again, reading through it with difficulty again. The amount of time it’s taking is unbearable… Come on, finish it quickly… The next thing I know Cuffin’s shaking his head, hands in front of himself defensively, paper simply dropped this time. “Woah there, no need to knock yourself out! Sundance just wanted the question answered, alright? I need somethin’ to tell the kid, afterall…”

Oh… Of course… Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha... I grab another handkerchief, writing on it as well. ‘Sorry. I will steal from those who don’t need it and don’t deserve it, the good-hearted Pokemon need it more. So yes, I will be doing things the Royal Guard won’t like.’ Cuffin snatches the handkerchief once again, slowly reading through it. “Ah, like Robin Karp. If he was real, that is. The mere thought of a Magikarp being a master arrow shooter is absurd.” Once again he tosses the handkerchief behind himself, quickly followed by the paper.

“Whew. All right, enough of that stuff. Sometimes it seems like the royals crammed a stick really far up that kid, if ya know what I mean.” No, I don’t, but I have te feeling I don’t want to know. “All of these ‘formalities’ and junk… Kid is on the right track, though. Anyway, the rest is straight from me.”

His eyes then shift side-to-side, never focusing on anything in particular, before resting at around me, although they didn’t seem to be focusing on me. Poor Cuffin…  “I’m just gonna level with ya, kiddo. Truth is, the Hunters are all about known’ things about everybody else. Yer gonna learn secrets that nobody else will know. It’ll change the way you look at this whole city, and yer prolly not gonna like what you see, but you’ll always know exactly what’s goin’ on under the coat of sugar. Once you learn about it, there’s no turning back, you’ll always know about it. Are you sure you want to?”

OK, so that sounds… scary. Do I want to? “I wouldn’t blame ya if you’d rather go hang with a Guild that doesn’t deal in the worst of what Andulusst can offer.” I begin thinking to myself, wondering if I do in fact want to see this city for what it really is… He slaps his head, pulling out a blank piece of paper for me. I grab it, thinking about my answer still. Eventually, I begin writing down. ‘Well it’ll let me know who I should steal from, and who I shouldn’t. I will join, no going back.’

My spirits raise as I see Cuffin’s smirk return, as he grabs the paper. Before reading it, he scrunched it up, tossing it behind himself. “You’re in, I can hear it with the energy you had when writing it down.” OK, he’s got good hearing and good deduction skills. OK then… “To be honest, I would’ve blamed ya, actually.” The teasing sound in his voice, coupled with his smirk immediately tips me off that he’s joking. “Who doesn’t wanna know everything about everybody? Life is all about keepin’ yer options as open as possible ‘til the right moment.”

I know it’s a joke, but that’s really thought-provoking… Before I can begin contemplating that answer, I hear a familiar voice call out. “Sorry, coming through, just a second!” Mizumi’s back, with our meals, a glass of wine and a thickshake balancing on top. She’s staring at Cuffin, then back to his food, then back to Cuffin. Cuffin was looking at me… Roughly… Nowhere near her anyways. She’s not contemplating spitting on it, is she? She quickly looks away, her head held high. Wait, watch out for that puddle!

She steps over the small puddle of water without a thought, placing our meals on the table. Wow, she’s good. “Enjoy, you two! Especially you, lil’ Pichu.” Wow… rainbow rice looks very good, each piece of rice seemed to have it’s own colour, and they meshed into perfect unison. I was about to start digging in straight away, when I hear Cuffin speak up.

“Before we eat…” he grabs a glass of wine, holding it into the air, closer to me. “Let’s toast to the new recruits.” Before I can grab my thickshake, he leans in next to me. “…That’s you, just so ya know.” I grin, I’ve finally got a job. FINALLY! With a free home too! I grab my thickshake, clinging it with his. Then I take a sip. It’s not that bad. I then turn to the rainbow rice, I’m very curious as to how these taste…

========== WRITTEN TEST ==========

It’s been weeks since Phillioune sent in the recruitment slip, the one to certify Tama as a member of the Hunters Guild. They followed the instructions on the slip carefully, making sure the envelope was sealed and using the odd delivery address (“The wheelbarrow sitting three doors down from the berry shop of Ms. K-, Andalusst”). But so far neither of them have heard nothing back, and they’re starting to worry. What if it was the wrong wheelbarrow?
Then, one afternoon, Tama find a letter waiting for them in its own sealed envelope, unmarked except for their team’s name. The parchment inside is fine-quality, neatly cut and folded, but the writing on it is a messy, uneven scrawl. As they strained to make out the words, Tama noticed a few tawny hairs stuck to the page:

“Yo,
Hope you don’t gotta screw your eyes up too much to read this. I ain't the best writer, but I like to handle personal letters myself. Been hearin' a lot about you newbies lately. That you got involved in some interesting stuff, and that you hooked up with a new buddy to boot. So maybe you ain't such newbies anymore, huh? You can handle yourselves, right? Well, that’s what I said, but kid Sundance thought I should “check in” on you. So I am. No fancy dinner this time, though. Sorry to disappoint you mooches.
Wish I’d saved the note the kid gave me last time, coulda just cut and pasted it and called it a day. Anyhow, here’s a couple questions for the new newbie. I couldn’t care less if you answer, but it might look good on your record, so give it a shot.
First, I bet your buddies filled you in about the Hunters, what they do and all. But let me reiterate: the Hunters are all about findin' out about stuff. Stuff that's lost, or hidden, or secret. And it ain't always pleasant stuff, get it? Think you're up for that?

Second, if you are up for that, then how? What kinda skills do you have that might help with this job?

And third - you mighta' figured this out already, but what the Hunters get up to ain’t always “legal,” strictly speakin'. That okay? Or are you tryin' to turn over a new leaf?

Done with those? Alright, one last thing, for the whole team this time. While you've been out doin' jobs for the guild, did you ever find yourselves workin' against each other? Or were you ever worried that a teammate or a guildmate might, say, turn on you? If not, great, just maybe keep it in mind.
Well, that’s all I got. The address changed; drunk Donphan flattened that dumb wheelbarrow the guild was usin'. You can send this to “the third crevice in the wall on the street just behind Wear n’ Flair.” Or just drop by one of the night markets if you’re in town, chances are I’ll be around.
Good luck, especially to the newbie. You’ll need it.
-Cuffin"

The two had spent the night working on a letter in response, Tama struggling to spell many words correctly. Soon, though, they had finished it, heading off to send it in.

Dear, Mr Cuffin,

So it’s like a fun game~? I like to find stuff, the fun in searching behind corners or between walls and getting really excited once you’ve found it! Have you ever lost something and then once you’ve found it, you go, “Woo hoo!”

Well, I’m a really good climber, I can climb almost anything except for ice, I can’t stand it… Anyways, I’m also quite small so I can fit in places where those big scary ones can’t go and I’m handy with my two bone clubs, they can be used as a club or a hook or really long stick~

Legal? Well, I’m always up for new things so I’m gonna give it a try; who knows I might enjoy whatever it is you’re talking about right now~

My partner turning on me? Nah~ He’s the nicest kid I’ve met so far, fun too~! I haven’t had much issues with other teams, although there was one in particular… some Mawile but maybe she needed some sweets and that day was quite heaty so who wouldn’t be rather annoyed~

Hopefully that answers your fun questions~ I hope to see you too~!

Tama Bek :

P.S. This is Phillioune, here to say that Tama’s been great, I can’t imagine her turning against me, she’s always by my side, and me hers. That said, a lot of the Hunter’s Guild Members give me the creeps. Some are just blatantly untrustworthy, and others are out-right scary.

From
Phillioune Fletcher
And here's the most adorable mute I've ever made! Go! Go bask in the adorableness of this little fluffball!

Oh, yeah, he's legally emancipated, so he can do stuff like work and live on his own. He does have a family, who live at the town with a really long name (that I've never created xD)

EDIT: This team has been made into a collab, with LordGengar and his character, Tama Bek. Once member recruitment writing templates are out, we shall add that in for Tama. The date this was done is 16/09/2014.

EDIT: Finally written down Tama's inclusion into the team o3o
