========== WRITTEN TEST ==========
Maran and Digi stepped towards a surprisingly high-end looking Café. Maran read the name to herself once more and then checked with the directions she'd been given by the Hunters. No doubt about it, this was Café Obscurité. "So this is where we'll meet the Hunter's 'representative'..." Maran said, mostly to herself. Looking down at her partner, she was a little surprised to see him looking rather nervous. "Digi? Whats the matter?"

"Ugh..." Digi groaned as he stared at the restaurant. "This is a fancy place...meaning there are fancy people eating in there, and you know how it is with them!"

"Ahhhh yes..." Maran said, quietly recalling their previous encounters with the supposed 'fancy people' that Digi was referring to. It generally went in the cycle of Maran introduces herself to them, the wealthy-looking individual is pleasantly surprised to find a well-mannered individual that’s in the know-how, they begin talking, Digi gets bored and 'entertains himself' and either accidently breaks something valuable, tears the rich person's cloths, or doing something incredibly rude, fancy person gets offended and recommends an orphanage to drop him off at. Maran gets angry, picks up Digi, says a polite farewell and they continue their journey with Maran in a significantly sourer mood, which the little Sandshrew wasn't particularly fond of. "Well...this is just an expensive restaurant, so stay in your seat, think before you speak, and...say you need to go to the bathroom if you feel a fart coming on."

"Right, got it." Digi mumbled. "You nervous, by any chance?"

"The only thing I'm concerned about at the moment is if their expecting us to pay for this." Maran said flatly. Maran looked down at her nervous partner and quickly stopped talking, instead lowering a wing for him to hold onto. Digi gratefully clutched her feathers with his small hands, and the two stepped inside.

Right away, the two of them are greeted by a Luxio at the front desk. "Greetings, sir and madam. Table for two?"

"No actually, we're expected." Maran replied with a dignified air. The Shinx nodded and checked the ledger. Finding what he was looking for, he nodded to himself and escorted the two to a table. It was located in one of the darker corners of the already-dim establishment, and it's already attended by a sly, smiling Furret with a blue newsboy cap. The Hunters representative, Maran realized, though he hardly seemed like a good fit for the present surroundings.

"Hey, pull up a seat. Order your favorites; this one's on the guild's checkbook," Cuffin greeted with a quick wave. Digi quickly relaxed when he saw Cuffin and hopped onto a seat. He wasn't a fancy guy at all, so there was nothing to worry about! Maybe he'd order everything and see how much he could scarf down, or let one rip. Who doesn't like a fart joke? However, a knowing glare from Maran indicated that she knew exactly what he was thinking. Oh yea...Maran doesn't really like fart jokes, Digi remembered, and he knew better than to argue with her no glare.

Soon after Maran had also seated herself, an Empolen waiter strolled over to their table, and passed menu's to the three of them. A number of higher-class dishes are represented on it, along with equally high-class prices. "The usual," the Normal-type comments with disregard, gently pushing the menu back against the Empoleon's chest. The waiter merely rolls his eyes and turns his attention to the other two, waiting expectantly for their orders.

Maran scanned the menu and grinned to herself. It had been a while since she'd treated herself to fine dining such as this. Mostly because of a fairly tight budget, and because she wouldn't want to take Digi into an establishment like this, but there were those times with the 'fancy people', they were usually good for a dinner. "I think I'll start with an order of Calamari." Maran said and looked over at her partner.

Digi sat in his chair, his eyes wide as he stared at the dishes. He quickly glanced over to Maran with a pleading look, and then back to the menu. Maran looked back at her menu, but made a mental connection with Digi. "Maran. I need help!" Digi mentally pleaded.

"Whats the matter?" Maran asked.

"Everything...is just so fancy. I can't even understand most of this menu!" Digi said hurriedly.

"I'll take care of it." Maran said. Breaking the mental connection, she looked up to their waiter and asked "What do you have in the way of cheese dished? A fondue for the kid, perhaps?"

"Indeed, we offer those. I'll have it brought with some chips." The Empoleon waiter offers.

"That'll do nicely." Maran said. The waiter bowed and walked off, having gathered their orders. Digi lets go of the menu and sighs heavily before covering his face. "Give him a minute; he's not used to...higher class settings such as this." Maran explained.

"Thats fine, I didn't really expect him to be." The Furret remarked with a shrug, before lazily slumping back in his seat. His gaze didn't settle on anyone in particular, as though he's simply staring off somewhere. "No need for introductions, seeing as we've already...met." Cuffin says with another sly smirk, tapping his paws together. "So... I work for this kid, Sundance. He made me promise to ask ya a few things before I go off on my own thing. He'll get his feathers in a bunch if I don't, so humor me. First things first: why do you wanna join the Hunters?" The last question is accompanied by a roll of the eyes and a dramatic recitation, as if driving home the fact that he's being forced to ask this.

"Funny thing about that...it just sort of happened really." Maran said with vague disinterest in the question. "I got a good impression from them and helped out during the attack. I even met Sundance myself."

"Yea, and I met Kara!" Digi said, cutting in with sudden excitement. "I got a thing for her and some leafs off that guy that was wrecking everything. It was awesome!"

"Yes, you certainly did..." Maran said. While she wasn't pleased with this 'Kara' individual, every guild was bound to have its bad apples. Digi was unfortunate enough to run into one.

Cuffin looked interested as he listens. Perhaps it wasn't the question itself he was so annoyed about. "All right. Respectable, yeah. Down the list..." The scruffy Furret reaches for a parchment already settled upon the table. Rather than hold it up to read, he crumples it in his paws rather rudely, then promptly tosses it over his shoulder.Maran frowned at this little display. He may not like doing it, but this was his job, he could at least do it with some dignity. "What can you bring to the Hunters? What skills or talents can you utilize for us?" Once again, his recitation of the question is somewhat mocking.

"Haven't you asked this question before?" Maran asked, recalling Digi’s tale of his previous encounter with Cuffin.

“Yeah, but I think I’d like to hear from the madam herself.” Cuffin said with a smirk.

“…A reasonable request.” Maran said. “Very well then. I was a teacher before I met Digi, so my skills lay in communication and knowledge, where Digi is more….physical oriented.”

"Yeah, yeah, I gotcha. I guess we'll get to see some of that soon enough. Don't get me wrong; your answer don't mean you're gonna be taken or thrown out. This is basically... formalities..." Cuffin pauses, tilting his head upward thoughtfully. "...Yeah, formalities. I think that's the word he used. Whatever that means." A grin comes over the Furret's fuzzy face as he readies himself for his next question, lowering the register of his voice. "This one's more interestin', to the little guy's credit. Are you against doin' things that the Royal Guard ain't gonna like if they catch ya doin' em?"

Maran’s gaze hardened as she read the implications of the question, but Digi was the first to answer. “I dunno who these Royal guys think they are, but I’ll trip ‘em if I was told to!” Digi proclaimed and puffed his chest with a proud grin on his muzzle. Maran slowly turned to her smaller partner and sighed, wondering where he got that idea from, or all his bravado.

“Ahem…well, I am not exactly a stranger to the wrong side of the law, as some others would put it, but I’ll need a little more information on what exactly you’re asking us to do.” Maran said, tactfully picking her words.

The Normal-type's pointed ears twitch at the reply. "It ain't me, just sayin'. I know well enough that if yer here, then you an' I are prolly already aware of the answer to that question. I just needed somethin' to tell the kid." With a sigh of relief, Cuffin tosses his hands in the air, then at the sides of the chair dramatically. "Whew. All right, enough of that stuff. The kid is on the right track, but sometimes it seems like the royals crammed a stick really far up there, if ya know what I mean.  All-”

“I do!” Digi cut in with a large grin on his face. “You mean putting a stick up his-!”

“Digi!” Maran said, quickly cutting him off. The Sandshrew looked back and forth between Cuffin and Maran before looking around and realizing he’d drawn some odd looks from people at the other tables, and quietly sat back down.

“... Anyway, the rest is straight from me." He looks left, then right... but given the way his bright eyes are never quite focusing on either of them, this seemed to be one of those "formalities" of his own. He then begins to explain in an oddly sincere fashion, "You already know the basic stuff, so I'm gonna level with ya. Truth is, the Hunters are all about knowin' things about everybody else. Yer gonna learn secrets that nobody else will know. It'll change the way you look at this whole city, and yer prolly not gonna like what you see, but you'll always know exactly what's goin' on under the coat of sugar. I wouldn't blame ya if you'd rather go hang with a Guild that doesn't deal in the worst of what Andalusst can offer."

Digi and Maran took a more serious expression as the mood at the table darkened a bit from Cuffin’s warning. “My view of the city? Get worse? No…I know the worst sides of life, I don’t think looking under the ‘coat of sugar’ will change anything.”

“Pandemonium.” Digi said grimly. “It’s the biggest word I know, but I know it by heart. I’ve seen a city destroy itself over such a small thing as a ring. It doesn’t take a lot to bring out the worst in people. I don’t know what you could possibly tell me that I haven’t seen before.”

Cuffin's non-serious demeanor returns with a smirk at your response. "Is that so? Well... to be honest, I would've blamed ya, actually," he jokes with a lightly teasing tone. "Who doesn't wanna know everything about everybody? Life is all about keepin' yer options as open as possible 'til the right moment."

Maran and Digi looked a little surprised at his light-hearted response, but surprisingly it worked fairly, as the mood followed his expression perfectly. “Well…as long as we have an understanding that nobody here is afraid to see the uglier side of reality, we’ll be fine.” Maran said, relaxing in her chair.

Just then, the waiter comes into earshot, flippers laden with everyone's orders. As he hesitates with the platter containing Cuffin's meal, Maran couldn’t help but wonder if he was contemplating on spitting in it. The Furret didn't appear to be looking at him anyway... and Maran began to suspect that he couldn't even if he wanted to. The silver platters are placed on the table with mild clatter, but Cuffin faces his tablemates again before paying them any mind.

"Before we eat..." He interrupts, reaching down and palming the nearest glass. He holds it up and forward across the table. "Let's toast, to the new recruits," Cuffin proposes, though he leans in and adds with a whisper, "...That's you, just so ya know."

“No, really?” Maran said playfully before raising her glass. Digi grabbed and raised his glass as well.

Team facts-
Very energetic, but also very careless.

His white belly is veery ticklish, but any place he is white is ticklish. The rest of his skin is tough as a rock.

He frequently rolls into a ball, often yelling "Ball mode, activate!" when he does. He tends to bump into people when he rolls around as a ball.

He loves cheese, any kind of cheese.

Digi is not his real name, but he insists on being called on that.

He has a habit of eating any food someone gives him, even if it looks a bit questionable.

Maran was a teacher before she encountered Digi. He was so full of dreams and hopes that she couldn't just let him go back onto the road, so she took him home so he could rest up, and applied for a break. However, he went much farther that she ever thought he could, and with the kid's luck to find adventure, she might not be able to go back for quite a while.

Maran enjoys reaching over and tickling Digi's belly with her wings.
Maran is a singer, but never really thought about making a career out of it. The title 'Star Singer' has special meaning to her.

Maran sometimes squawks if something surprises her.

Maran has a special place in her heart for children, so she had hardly turn down a request from one.

Maran is only "Interested" in the same gender.
