BACKGROUND

Just like how Candi pursued more than her fair share with Donte because she wanted a positive experience with a boyfriend to cancel out her negative one with Don the Psycho, Celia wanted a positive experience with a boyfriend to cancel out her constantly reliving what SCALLOP agent Jim Oisdaat did to her. 

Unfortunately, she didn't end up with a man like Donte who was an otherwise role model citizen willing to go through proper legal channels to marry her and make things right.  She got involved with a criminal - the Sapphire King.  And wound up leaving the Sodality to be with her criminal lover.  Oh sure, she'd had plenty of college flings behind her friends' backs too.  But none of them could erase Jim from her mind.  None of them satisfied her.  Only Jordan seemed to make her feel "free."  Some would point out that what she thought was "freedom" was really bondage to madness of a different kind.  She was trading one kind of mental prison for another.  But her heart was not rational.  It was hurt.  And she wanted to be with Jordan, come Hell or high water.

But when one of Jordan's heists went afoul, it was Celia who became "Taterbug" and provided a distraction that allowed him to escape.  For aiding and abetting a fugitive, Celia found herself in pretty hot water legally.  In spite the risk that they themselves could be sent back to jail, Candi and the other Sodality girls visited Celia to let her know they still considered her as "like a sister."  Celia apologized for leaving them feeling betrayed, but warned them that she belonged to Jordan now. 

The judge didn't give two hoots about Celia's crazy love.  If anything, he saw it as a reason to slap her with an even worse sentence than what she deserved.  She especially ticked him off by saying that she didn't care: she'd give her life for Jordan.  The judge replied: "Don't tempt me."

Those were some very, extremely foolish words for the judge to say.  No sooner was Celia carted off to prison than the Sapphire King hosted a jailbreak.  His unofficial common law bride was not about to rot away in some prison separated from him!  Morally confused, Celia decided to embrace her new status as Jordan's dark queen.  She harbored malice only towards those she felt really, truly deserved it.  And for nobody else.  She was a good girl deep down.  But society apparently wanted her to be evil.  She had nothing to lose in giving them at least the illusion of having what she believed they wanted.

Thus the Taterbug was born.  The Harley Quinn to Sapphire King's Joker.
