CONTEST TIME!!!!
So! I've announced a while back that there would be a contest to kick off my newcoming as the admin to this group. I've thought about this for a while, trying to come up with some ideas inspired by the ones you guys gave me, and I finally decided the contest theme!
THE TRUTH BEHIND THE LYRICS CONTEST
Music is one of the biggest influences in artists of today, including writers. No matter their melodies, the lyrics always delve deeper into the thoughts of whoever wrote it.
YOUR TASK:
Find a song. It can be any song you like; one you randomly find on Pandora, or one you select from an iPod shuffle. Your task is to create a story with the title of that song.
Obviously, the story has to pertain to its title; it can be pertaining to the story in a metaphorical sense, or in a literal sense. FOR EXAMPLE, if you chose the song "Wires" by The Neighbourhood, you could make the story, somehow, about wires, or have the story be a metaphor for how things are easily tangled and unable to be brought apart easily. That's just a (crappy) example.
What I suggest is to put your iPod on shuffle and choose the first song that comes up, turn on the radio to an obscure station and choose something from there, or go on a playlist website like 8tracks to find a song you like.
Listen to the song. Think of the lyrics. Write your story with the song in mind. Your story should include some of the themes of your chosen song. Choose whatever you'd like, but remember, it's always best to be tasteful.
BUT WAIT!!!
Your story MUST contain at least one of the following selected themes; didn't think I'd let you off THAT easy, right? It IS a contest after all.
-Death
-Loss of something important
-Blame/fault
-Courage
-Fear
-Realization
-Envy towards something meaningless
-Anxiety
I left them pretty vague so you all can do what you want with the themes. Have fun with this! This is your chance to be an author that you have always wanted to be.
This contest officially will BEGIN on June 10th at midnight, and will come to an end on July 10th, giving you roughly a month to write and submit your entry. If you will have any trouble submitting your work by the designated date, let me know!
RULES
Every contest, unfortunately, has rules. Let's review them!
All stories can be in the form of prose, vignette, or a basic short story. Your story can be written and constructed however you want; it can be a narrator talking, or a story with a full plot, narrated in the third person. You have full artistic liscence in this field.
Stories must be at least 500 words, with a limit of 4,000. This should give you quite enough space to write whatever you'd like to convey.
Stories can have R-rated content, but be sure to keep something selected as "mature", in case somebody who is disturbed by certain things wants to read it.
You must be watching the group WritersXWorld in order to be qualified for entry.
ENTRY DETAILS
In the description of your entry, write what song your story was inspired by along with the themes you chose, and add either a link to the group AND this journal entry, or their icons.
Submit your entry to the folder that will soon be created, entitled "Truth Behind the Lyrics Contest".
JUDGING
There will be three winners chosen, depending on how many people enter. There may be fewer winners if less people enter. There will be several different topics I will be judging the story with, them being:
-Grammar and structure
-Plot line
-How well the story conveys its title and song
-Following of directions
-Enjoyability (I mean, it has to be GOOD)
-Peaking of interest
-Overall quality of writing
-Effort
-Creativity
So make sure to write something you yourself would enjoy to read. First place, second place, third place, and possibly honorable mentions will be chosen.
And that leads us to the next topic...
PRIZES!
Now, I currently do not have much to offer, besides a few llamas. That's where you guys come in. I need donators to the prize pool! If nobody donates, there will be no contest, and that's no fun, right? That's why I need people who will willingly donate points, badges, memberships, really anything they are willing to give. Anything is appreciated! Without donators, there will be not much to give.
If you have something you'd like to contribute to the prize pool, refer here and send me a note: writersxworld.deviantart.com/j…
I am hoping you all will try and help me out, so this contest can be at its strongest and most fun!
I hope you all choose to enter. If you want to advertise, that will most definitely help! Get writing, guys! Have fun!

Hey everyone! So, as you probably have noticed, lately I've been really into making tags and tagging people on here! So, I decided, since Halloween is coming up, what better thing to do than to create a tag? Everyone loves Halloween, right? So, although this is not writing related (I will be posting some promps this weekend or the next, worry not), I will be inviting all of you to try out this fun tag and
Get to know your OC tag!
Hey everyone! So I decided to make my very own OC tag (I made a writing tag last month, and I plan to also make a Halloween tag)! This is going to be for you and your d!A audience, getting to know your OCs! If you choose, you can do this survey for all of your OC's or only one, or however many you want. It's up to you. Have fun! Feel free to do this even if you haven't been tagged- let me know if you do! First I'll answer my own questions, and then I'll paste a blank copy for those who want to give it a try! Have fun!
1. Who are your most prominent OC's? Pick one for the survey, or answer for all of them!
I have around four prominent OC's,
