Kaleidoscope Frost 05. Lights, Camera, Action

For as long  as she could remember Kaleidoscope 'Edith' Frost had been surrounded by screaming fans and flashing lights, as she walked down a long red carpet.

She had been born into stardom with her mother being the famous rockstar Toothiana,  her father being the young hulk actor Jack Frost that every girl had voted being #1 hottest man in people magazine she had a lot to live up to.

Ever since she was a baby Kaleidoscope had been bathed in riches, limos, and given the most sophisticated dresses, shoes, handbags,earrings but for her it was not material things she was looking for.

She desperately wanted to be normal. To be able to watch through the streets without dodging cameras, to act out and be silly without a huge popsite city from the press.

Her sister Snowflake was a professional snowboarder, her brother Sharptooth owned his own tattoo shop and her little sister Hailey was a professional acrobat.

Yes the Frost family certainly was talented spectacular people. But Kaleido still wished for a moment of simplicity and peace not screams, fame and fortune.

What was Kaleido you ask? Kaleidoscope was a published author she wrote books about romance, loss and desperation. She poured her soul into those printed pages of solitude for her writing was all she had to escape.The constant questions on her social life, and the hazardous schedule she was forced to keep ever since she could crawl.

Her recent book 'Trails of Sand' had become one of the most purchased book within the first four weeks, Kaleido was rich but not as rich as her father, her father was so rich that he did not have to work for the rest of his life, but he choose to continue because he loved his job.

She was currently at her book signing in a small bookstore in the middle of nowhere, the room was hot and the ac was broken, the store clerk looked as bored as she was. Any other day Kaleido would adore her fans, and crave the attention given to her but lately she had been feeling lonely.

Kaleido was almost thirty years old and she yet to have a boyfriend, she never had  a real relationship with a boyfriend before all the boys that she had been dating in the past were just stipulations or rumors created by the mass public.

The signed her signature without looking at the book she had gotten so quick she did not have to look anymore. She could see the book in the corner of her eyes her hands on her face as she signed the book in boredom.

"Wow you look entertained". A dry male voice said with a laugh when he got a look at her expression, Kaleido glanced up and looked at the man with shock he was so handsome! What was a guy like him doing in a dead end town like this?

Kaleido sat up and smoothed her short brown hair, her hair was short and spiky like her fathers she put rainbow colored streaks in her hair, she always wore tie-dye type clothing. That was how she got her nickname Kaleidoscope. Her real name was Edith Frost but she had always loved her nickname even if it was a little too long.

Kaleido let out a big yawn as she stretched her arms and leaned on the table, she looked behind him and noticed that there was nobody left, she was safe for now. Kaleido did not want to sign his book just yet because then he would leave and she might never get to see him again.

"No, I'm alright I just".- She tried to say but she was cut off because she had let out another big yawn. Making the man laugh as she did not even cover her mouth.

Once she was finished continued, "I just need a moment to wake up I'm not really from here".

"I know". the man said as he handed her his copy of Sand Trails, She blushed with embarrassment as she scratched the back of her head and took the book, unlike the others she took her time with the autograph and used calligraphy to make the signature stand out in the book.

"Wow." the man breathed out with amazement as he looked down at her signature, making sure not to ruin the ink before he allowed it to settle he had never seen such beautifully crafted cursive in his life. He could use her, he had been searching, and searching, searching and at last he had found the perfect candidate.

" Run away with me". he said softly as he looked into her eyes, he did not notice them before now they were so unique he had never seen such eyes in his lifetime he had just met her but he could tell she desperately wanted out of the life she had now.

"What did you say"? Kaleido asked with shock as she stared at this handsome stranger, she looked into his sharp green eyes, her heart skipping a few beats she bit her lip from doing something stupid. She wanted to but she couldn't. She had fans that wanted her to write books and famous family members that would freak out if she mysteriously disappeared over night.

"Run away with me". he repeated

"No way I barely even know you I mean you're good looking, and you seem sweet. But, I have seen enough relationships come and go to know you can not just run away when things get rough"! Kaleido snapped

"Look, I know you are tired of it, I know a defeated famous celebrity when I see one. But, it does not have to be that way  I can make you into your old self again." he said

Kaleidoscope held her breath with shock and said, "Yeah. how?" She said trying to see if he was not just using her to get ahead in his career. When she looked into his eyes, he seemed sincere however she could not help but feel awkward around this man. It was only natural they just met.

"I'm a teacher a music teacher we have been looking for a calligraphy and literature teacher for the collage. I know as a published author you can give advice for those aspiring authors out there". he breathed as he looked down at her he was so tall, she was so small. The job opportunity was tempting what should she do? What can she do?

Normally she was a quick thinking able to handle anything but now she can't. What is it about this man that made her freeze, that made heartbeat fast.

What's in it for me? Kaleido asked as she turned away from him crossing her arms on her small chest. She looked at him from the counter her eyes. He chuckled at her childish manner and then said,

"The college is in a remote island, hidden away from flashing cameras and the schedule will be less demanding. Please I have never seen such beautifully crafted writing in my life, when I saw your signature my heart stopped just think about it.". He said he dug for something in his handbag and handed her a small card, with a number, adress.

"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, after this you might never see me again you have three weeks to tell me your answer I hope you make the right choice Kaleidoscope". The man said as he walked towards the door, as he gave her a small nod goodbye leaving her in the bookshop with the card alone.

"So wait a handsome stranger comes in for an autograph for Sand Trails gives you a job offer and leaves and you do not give him an answer what is wrong with you"? Her best friend squealed with shock through the speaks of her cellphone.

Kaleidoscope sighed and pinched her nose with irritation and she ran her fingers through her hair. She took a few deep breaths to make sure she maintained her sanity and then held her cellphone up to her ear again.

" Look, I just met the guy what was I supposed to do"? she asked she was in the salon staring at the mirror as she leaned her head back as the salon lady sprayed and washed her hair trying to get rid of the harsh chemicals from her hair dye from her rainbow streaks.

"Get to know him! He leaves town in a couple weeks right? Ask him on a date, Did you get his name?" Her friend Quanna asked with excitement she had waited, and waited for Kaleido to start showing interest in men.

Not like she did not before but she picked up her mom's work habits, she was always on tour working, or working on a manuscript she had been working on Sand trails for five years. Because she kept on getting writer's block. After all she had found her dream man 'HotSpot' they have been happily married for three years now.

"Quanna please stop patronizing me, like you know everything and no I did not get his name! Why do you care anyways? Can I concentrate without you  instigating me you will only  prolonging my suffering". Kaleido said in a melodramatic tone, as she held her phone in her ear she did not want to move around too much or else her phone will drop in the water.

Kaleido hated being one of the only one of her friends that was still single all her friends are already married, engaged or are in a relationship. But with her friend Quanna always trying to pair her up with guys, only for it end in a big giant disaster.

 Kaleidoscope gasped with shock when Kaleidoscope was struggling between jobs she used to be a lifeguard and then she enlisted into the navy she was on a curse with her family when the ship crashed.

She had saved many people that day but the one man that stuck out to her was a young hansome boy with bright green eyes, that had shrilved worn out clothing, he looked too poor to be able to afford the boarding for the curse. So she assumed he must have snuck in.

But still she could help and stare at him, she could not see very much because it was pitch black outside but she remembered his eyes as well, his voice as he pleased for her to stay. 

Kaleidoscope swallowed and then said in a shaking tone "W-Where does it say that that sounds like a bad attempt at mixing titanic with the little mermaid". She could not hide the shock, was written on her face. Nor could she hide the sense of hope that the man that she met was the same boy that she saved that time. 

"It says it in his backround check. It is a quote from his memoirs book that he had published about two years ago. It always says he has been searching for her, the last thing she left him was a hand written letter written in perfectly crafted cailiography. I like his guy he sounds quite the charmer." Quanna said

He-He has been looking for me? Kaleidoscope thought It was her there is no question about it. Garth Dante so that was his name...She thought.. Kaleidoscope felt her heart quicken once she thought about his name. A new sense of hope grew inside the young writer. Maybe he was the one. 

"I guess I could give this one a chance Quanna, I think I have a good feeling about Garth I just hope I'm right". Kaleido whispered into the phone

You should talk about it to you mom Quanna said 

Kaleidoscope blushed For some reason her mother knowing she had a crush on a boy she just met reminded her of her parents.

Her parents Toothiana and Jack did not know each other very well, in fact that had not been together for very long when they got married. But, when you know you know they have been married for eighteen years. So, maybe just maybe her and Garth found each other for a reason.,

"She's on tour. I do not want to bother her, she is is very busy". She said with embrassment as she looked down winching in pain when Megan accidently tugged to hard on her head because she moved, she looked up at Megan apologically. 

"She is never too busy infact I heard she" -

"Bye Quanna, I got to go bye". Kaleidoscope said quickly her face steaming red as she closed her cellphone ending the call. Kaleido loved her firend Quanna they had been through a lot together but she could be so embrassing!  

Suddenly the salon bell rang making Kaleidoscope look at the door with shock. That is weird this town as a small population and not very people go to this one because it is far into town. 

Megan seemed shocked as well, she had sent her workers home because she knew the bussiness was going to be slow. It always is. But, today she had ten costumers not counting Kaleido. Megan stepped away from Kaleidoscope and headed towards the door and noticed the sky was grey and rain pouring down on the town. 

Rain? Megan thought For as long as she moved into this town it was been a dry wasteland water is scarice. Often times the closest place she could get clean water was two towns away and yet, this dessert like town that is getting rain. It was a mircle. A sight to be hold. Megan wiped her eyes and blinded to see if she was dreaming. 

Kaleidoscope could not get a good look at the person because the lights were very dim, the lights in the salon kept flickering on and off making Kaleidoscope very nervous even though she was twenty three she was still afraid of the dark. She still got nightmares of being lost in the woods.

Suddenly the person walked towards her the dark figure coming closer, and closer. Kaleidoscope sung back further in the chair in fear, she could not go yet Megan had not finished fixing her hair up and she had long road back home. 

The figure reached out to her and Kaleidoscope paniced she reached in her purse and pulled out pepper spray and shot it in his face, the figure groaned out in face putting his hands on his face. He removed his hood to reveal Garth winching in pain. 

" What the heck was that for'? He asked as he blinded and all he saw was four blurry images of Kaleidoscope circling around his head with shock, and guilt she looked up at him, she was talking but he could not understand. Her lips were moving but the words would not reiger in his mind. 

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry". Kaleidoscope said repeatly as she looked at him with shock, how did find this place? How did he find her again? But the question she wanted to know was why? Was he some kind of stalker obessed with his memory of her and that night she saved him?

Garth sat in the chair next to her as soon as he sat down the dizzyness seemed to subside and he sighed with relief but the burning pain in his eyes was stil there. He will no longer make fun of crooks that get sprayed in movies ever again.

Megan walks up and puts a hand on his shoulder and said, "Want me to go get you some pain killers"? Garth lookes up at her but then relaxs and then smiles warmly at her. 

"Yes, please if you think it will help". Garth said as he leaned in towards Kaleidoscope looking at her up close. She defenity was the one she is around the same age, height she has the same eyes, gosh she is even more beautiful up close. 

"What are you doing here, why did you come looking for me?" Kaleidoscope asked 

"You dropped this, I picked it up because it seemed important to you". said Garth as he pulled out a small necklace. It was a rainbow charm that shimmered in the sunlight. It was made of glass so it was clear but in the sun light it shined a brillant rainbow. Kaleidoscope looked down at her neck and gasped she had not even noticed Kaleidoscope wore that rainbow charm everywhere. 

Kaleidoscope scooped up the charm from the man's hand happy tears spilling down her face, as she clasped it around her hands like it was a long lost family member. She tied it around her neck in the mirror and then without warning hugged Garth as hard as she could. 

Garth looked down at her with shock as he slowly wrapped his arms around the girl as if he had never been hugged before. He stroked her back as she pulled back enough to see her face. He blushed and cleared his throat making Kaleidoscope quickly go back to her chair.  

"Sorry, I should have asked". Kaleidoscope said

"Its fine, I did not mind". said Garth as he took her hand in his and lightly kissed it against her knuckles making her blush with embrassment and pull her hand away with shock. 

"W-what the heck was that for, you can't go around kissing people like that"! Kaleido stammered out bashfully. He laughed and looked at her Kaleidoscope felt her heart beat fast when he laughed.

She was not mad that he laughed at her it was different from the bullies, and her parents he was truly happy. He was not pranking her or trying to make her feel bad.

"So have you decided yet"? Garth asked seriously as he looked at Kaleidoscope he did not want to pressure her it was fine with him if she did not want to go just as long as he could see her again. "

"I have weighted the options the pros and cons and asked my friend Quanna to do research on you and I think..that I want to try it out its like you said it is a once in a life time oppurnity". Kaleidoscope said she smiled as soon as she saw his happy expression.  

He grabbed her and wrapped his arms around her picking her up from the chair and spinning her around she knew she had made the right descion.

A few weeks later 

"Thanks for helping move to the island Mom". Kaleidoscope said she was in her new apartment it took a few weeks but she manged to find one around her price arange her mother had taken some time off tourting to spend sometime with her. Kaleidoscope was shocked at first, until she realized that Quanna had told her about Garth. 

Toothiana smiled and hugged her daugther she stroked her back and ran her fingers through her hair, Kaleidoscope shot her a look of annoyance because she did not like it when her mother messed her hair up. Toothiana smiled and pulled back to see her beautiful daugher one last time knowing she will be too busy to visit. 

"Are you sure you want to do this"? Toothianna asked her with worry as she looked out at the sea, the apartment was on the seventh floor it had a great view of the ocean and town. She was hesitant about Kaleido doing this after all Kaleidoscope was her first child, her first connection towards Jack when they got married.

She wanted to make sure that Garth did not hurt break her heart, she could not bare to see her baby in tears, Toothiana knew that Kaleido was an adult now but that did not stop the worrying. 

Kaleidoscope smiled as she walked next to her and said, "I'm sure I have never been more sure in my entire life, I will be fine. Garth is the one, I'm sure of it!".

"Okay, just as long as your sure". said Toothiana as looked at Kaleidoscope She may have inheirted my looks, but she always was her daddy's little girl they caused me so much trouble. But, I would not take any memory back because memories are perious and they must be protected..She thought as she looked at Kaleidoscope with pride she was proud of her daugher moving away was a big step she just hoped that it made her happy. 

Suddenly the buzzer beeped Kaleido walked over with excitment and pushed the button "Hello who is it"?

"Its me Kaleido I brought house warming gift".  

"Dad good to see you come in". 

"Oh and I'm not alone a handsome young man helped me find your apartment I do not know what I would do with out him' Jack said teasingly towards his daugther finally glad she found someone that made her feel good he was starting to worry he would die before seeing any grand children to play with. 

"Hi Kaleido". Garth said shyly

Kaleidoscope blushed and said "Hi, Garth". not noticing she had let her mind wander a love struck expression on her face, just saying his name was enough to put her in a love struck coma. 

"Want to let us up now your father is carrying heavy boxes and I think in his age- Garth started to say, but then Jack cut him off. 

"Hey I'm not that old, I can handle it". Jack said 

Toothiana sighed and shook her head when she noticed her daugher blush and shuttering she walked over and pushed the button. Kaleidoscope snapped out her love struck expression and looked at her with shock and embrassment. 

Garth, Jack,Toothiana and Kaleido sat down in the living room the apartment filled with boxes, Kaleido was so busy with her new job she did not have much time with emptying the boxes. She had moved in three weeks ago after she decided to have fate lead her towards her new chapter in life. 

Kaleido sat in the armchair across from the couch the tv was a flat screen that was bulit into the wall, the walls were painted a light green color, like Garth's dreamy eyes. Sadly her uncle Aster and Sandy and her dad's foster father North could not make it.

"Well, this is it you are finally living your dream, I could not be anymore proud of you Edith". Tooth said with a smile Tooth was so proud of her she forgot to use her daugher's nickname.

Tooth sat in the cough with Jack right beside her on the couch with a proud look on his face, as he put a hand on one of Tooth's shoulders.As he  made secret side glances at Kaleido and Garth. He found it funny that they would turn red when they got caught staring into each others eyes for too long. 

When he was there age he had grown quite popular with the ladies that he let his popular to to his head, Jack would always walk side by side with a girl in each arm he had listened to her music for years in his trailer, he was always attracted to girls that had a voice like an angel but was not afraid to act a little wild.

 Tooth was a punk rock star and always avioded playboys he had met her completely on accident. She was on tour with her band, and he was shooting a movie when they had bumped into each other in the coffee shop they had both spilled their cups all over their shirts.

Tooth had reconzied him right away and made a brake for it, Tooth had apologized and ran away as fast as she could after and had swore she would never have anything to do with the playboy Jack Frost.

But, when Tooth found out that her band had to do the soundtrack for the movie Jack was working in because the director requested them, she could not aviod him any longer; and they fell in love and have been going strong for twenty five years now. 

Garth sat on the couch but tried to distance himself away from Kaleido's parents unsure how to react towards famous people he did not feel like he deserved to be around the fairy queen or the hollywood movie star.
But was greatful they had given a washed up loser like him a chance at their incredibly talented gorogous daugther.
 
"Yes Iam thank you Toothiana -I mean Mom". Kaleido said with a smile as she looked at her mother she was in her mid fourties but still looked like she did when she was in her twenties. 

"Garth take care of my daugther, I know I have other children but she was my first child, I lost my parents when I was seventeen, I had to take care of my little sister on my own until North took us in.

So, please make sure she is safe". Said Jack seriously he had no doubt in his mind he could protect Kaleido but he wanted to know if Garth could. He seemed like a nice boy, but if he could not protect his daugher, if she got hurt because he allowed Garth and Kaleido to get involved he would not know what to do with himself.

Garth smiled and said, "You have nothing to worry about Mr. Frost I will guard your daugher with my life. After all she saved my life once so I in return will save hers you can count on that." 

 He looked at Garth and noticed he was looking at Kaleido as Tooth  and talked to Kaleido who was laughing at a story Tooth was telling her. Jack smiled and looked at Garth with admiration and relief. That boy loved his daugher no question about that. 

"Well, good because if you don't I will never let you live it down anyone that hurts my little girl will get hurt back understand Dante". Jack said sternly trying to hide his snicker as he watched Garth shift uncomfortably in the couch and flinch at his tone of voice

Jack laughed and said, "Don't worry kid I'm just messing with you I know you will not hurt her, by that way you can call me Jack".

"Okay". Garth said
