========== WRITTEN TEST ==========

[For this portion of the application, make your best effort to follow the italicized lines and NPC dialogue with whatever you wish, in order to explain your team. You can even change the setting of the interaction as long as the NPC still asks all the necessary questions. Be creative! You may delete this line if you wish.]

It's midday in the Dreamer's Eye, and your team has just gotten themselves registered at the Researchers Guild!

Illusia finished signing Athena’s registered accessory to the application and placed it in the finished pile. She could never have guessed that completing such a simple task should take so long! Registering hadn’t even been that task! Still, she was rather pleased she had done it and, more importantly, Athena was with her. Convincing that Hoothoot’s dad had been like trying to persuade a Wooper to move to a volcano.

She turned around taking in the researcher’s guild. It was busier than she could ever have imagined! There were Pokémon running about this way and that. There were two Pokémon carrying several pieces of machinery while being directed by a Sandshrew and a couple more transporting maps. If they were to return the books to the rightful place, they were going to need something unexpected. That was Athena’s strong point.

“Come on, Athena! You’re the best to get these Pokémon out of our way. We’re losing time.”

Her companion, a Hoothoot, settled her eyes on her friend, rolling them as she did. The Drowsee hadn’t sounded uptight, in fact she looked quite patient, but the Hoothoot had registered an undertone of authority. Not that it mattered, as her beak creased into a snickering grin.

“Right you are, Illusia. Just watch me!”

Then, launching herself ahead with surprising speed for a bird with small wings, she yelled. “Make way! Make way! Historians, coming through! Loving that accessory there, custom made is it? Sweet! Hey you! Move you’re big behind out of the way. Seriously, it’s covering most of your body fat. Hey, what’s with the swipe? You are big for an Ursaring. And you, look where you’re going! You have eyes under that fur you know!”

The Drowsee followed after her friend as quickly as she could, desperately trying to hold her purple hat firmly on her head. That Hoothoot! She was going to get into trouble one of these days. Still, it was clearing a path for them, albeit a rather angry path. Still, at least one Pokémon appreciated the comment about that bow tie. She waved back. After all, being polite and friendly would get you places and win you friends. Illusia hurried on.

Having some free time, your teammates decide to explore the open halls, but when they round the corner to move to the next, they encounter a group of Pokémon blocking the way. Many of them are chatting amicably, but a few in the back can be heard grumbling and snapping irritably, and the cause is revealed to be a somewhat tall Flygon attempting to shove her way through (and by the sound of it, accidentally hitting several Pokémon with her wings and tail as she goes).

"Ohhh... Excuse me, pardon me, Leader's Assistant comin' through... C'mon guys, can’t you have your little meeting thing somewhere that isn't blocking a hallway? 'scuse me, sorry, jeez..."

Athena had stopped from making her cleaving path and stood there huffing, a sure sign of rising anger. Illusia caught up with her finally.

“That stupid Flygon! What does she think she’s doing, a tango! I’m going to…”
“NOT have words with her or do something stupid,” Illusia cut in sharply, “Let her pass, it will be quicker that way.”

“Hmph!” Athena continued to moodily huff and puff. Let her, at least she has obeyed me thought Illusia. Still, that Flygon was making a rather big hash of trying to push through a crowd…

When she finally makes it out, you see that her arms are laden with a surprisingly large pile of thick paper scrolls. A large blueprints tube can be seen on her back, the strap crossing her chest diagonally and connecting with a metal clasp, while her wrists bear one gleaming armband each; silver worn on the right, and black worn on the left.

Your team has only a couple seconds to take this in, however, as an unfortunate misstep results in paper flying everywhere and the Flygon falling flat on her face. There are a few derisive chuckles from the group, but as none of them move forward to help the hapless earth dragon, your team steps up instead.

Well, at first they didn’t. Athena was barely containing a laugh when Illusia pushed past her. Her eyes were enlarged and she was gasping. Athena’s sharp hoot caught her.
“Hey, what are you doing!?”

Illusia turned looking rather angry. “Helping her of course, Nobody else is and that’s unfair.”

Athena’s eyes snapped with shock and guilt, but quickly turned to a steely gaze. “Alright, let’s help the poor, big thing.”

They quickly began picking up the papers: Illusia with her paws and Athena hovering and quickly snatching piece after piece after piece. The Hoothoot appeared as a brown and red blur thanks to her colouring and red leg band. The Drowsee’s paw stopped momentarily as she glanced at a blueprint. That was a very strange looking device, what did it…

It was quickly taken from her as a tail scooped it up. The Flygon had recovered and was speaking to them.

"Oooof, so many papers... There we go," the Flygon mutters, balancing everything back into a manageable pile before straightening and breaking out into a cheery smile. "Thanks so much for helping me pick all these up. I swear, that’s like the fifth time I’ve tripped today; I’m such a klutz…" She blinks. "Heeeey, wait a minute. You don't look familiar. Are you visiting the Guild?"

Illusia blinked. This was the first time she had seen that Flygon, did she come from the fog? Anyway, she had to explain her incorrect assumption.

“Not just visiting, Miss. We have registered. My father has been part of this guild for some time, and now myself and my friend here have become part of this family to. But dad never mentioned a Flygon.”

Athena glanced at her cheekily. “Really, I thought he was a knower that knowed everything.”

Illusia returned the gaze with hardened eyes. “It’s knew, not knowed. Your grammar can be appalling!”

The Flygon, however, wasn’t listening.

Upon hearing that the team has just gotten done registering, she breaks out in a warm smile.

"Well no wonder I don’t remember you, you're new!" She inclines her long neck in the best bow she can manage without dropping everything all over again. "Welcome to the Researchers Guild! I'm Kali, I'm one of the Guild Leaders' assistants here. Pleased to meet you! And you are…?"

Kali? Nope, still didn’t ring a bell. She had also clumsily forgotten about Illusia’s heritage. Well, at least she seemed friendly and stopping for a chat wasn’t bad, even though Athena kept hopping about on one of her feet.

“My name is Illusia, of the family Gallio. And this is my worthwhile, and slightly troublesome, companion.”

“Athena. Supposedly named after some wise bird or something,” the Hoothoot replied, looking up at the Flygon briefly, “Trust me though; if you’re looking for wise, you’ve come to the wrong place!”

She smiles again. "Nice names! You don't hear many like that around here, but then again Andalusst is kind of a mish-mash of a whole bunch of different kinds of names. It's always nice to hear 'em since Pokémon do tend to come in from all over the place, after all. And speaking of which, did you guys get here from the fog or something?"

“From the fog, are you out of your tiny head!?”

Illusia glared again at Athena and she fell silent. They didn’t need Kali, who was clearly not the sharpest tool in any guild, getting upset.

“No, we have lived in this city all of our lives. Athena’s father is one of the bankers here and thus she comes from a very respectable family. My family are researchers in biology, even though my interest is in history, which they are fine with.”

Would you look at that? Whether you like it or not, it seems you’re stuck with Kali for the time being, as she seems to be quite curious about your team.

"Really? Hmm, yeah, that's how it is for a few people around here. I'm not an Andalusst native myself, but I figured I'd stick around. Anyway, now that you're here and you've been registered as a team, what name did you pick?"

So that’s why dad hadn’t mentioned her, she was new! Athena had stopped hopping and seemed more content to listen. Illusia was happy to talk as well; even though she would rather finish her job, Kali seemed nice enough.

“Well, seeming as we are both interested in the historical, we have taken the name Team Chronicle; from the word chronology, all about the past. We don’t believe anyone else has taken it.”

“If they had,” interrupted Athena, “We could have the Chronicles of Illusia and Athena! Or shorten it to COIA.”

Illusia shook her head but didn’t say anything. Athena looked so proud of her suggestion, though Illusia was sure it was too long, that she couldn’t say anything against it. She was quite worried about what Kali would say who had been keeping an interest up until that point.

She waits for the response with an expectant look, and laughs lightly when it’s given.

"Hah, that's so much better than the name I used when I signed up, wow. I was kind of, uh, young and silly back then, I guess you could say, so the name I used was... yeeeeaaaaah, pretty bad."

You notice she doesn't say the name she used, but before you can ask about it, the green Dragon-type tosses out another question with a curious tilt of her head.

"So what's your reason for joining the Guild, anyway? There are three guilds here in Andalusst, and even if I like it here with the Researchers, I know it's not the best fit for everyone since we're kinda knowledge-oriented; you could've just as easily registered with the Hunters, or the Explorers. So why here?"

“A big but really fun mistake,” Athena chirped in, “It has been hilarious. Sure, Hunters seem pretty cool, and Explorers ain’t that bad, but when it comes to history…”

“Then Researchers are the ones to go for. We both love history and archaeology!” Illusia chimed in, with both of them now smiling, then she frowned, “But as Athena said, we didn’t mean to register just then. You see I had borrowed two books from the library: a short volume on how buildings were constructed here around fifty years ago and the United Guild tome. In it is some of our most recent history explaining the construction of our three guilds, their purposes and some of the greatest fighters, minds and negotiators of all time. It was all really interesting. However, they shouldn’t have been in the library in the first place, we found they were the guild’s books! We couldn’t return them unless we were registered…”

“And that meant Illusia trying to convince my dad that researching and history were worthwhile occupations. That went on for days! I’m so glad dad conceded; he just said ‘Well, you’ll get no inheritance from us!’ I don’t care, I have passion and Illusia!”

Would she be saying that in a few months’ time? Athena’s impatience and troublesome nature were legendary. And would she see how important an inheritance was? Hopefully not; Illusia didn’t want to lose her friend to money.

Kali listens quite intently as your team tells its story, her earlier cheerful expression changing to one of thoughtful consideration. She waits patiently for the response to wrap up, before speaking again. "Wow, that's quite a tale! Not many Pokémon come through here with a story like that. Seems like everyone in the Guilds has a driving force behind what they do, and some reasons are... well, better than others."

“True, I’ll give you that,” nodded Athena in agreement. At least she was more docile now.

She pauses, before her voice regains its chipper tone. "So that’s the "why" and the "how"; what about the "what"? What do you think made the Guild decide to accept you into the ranks?" She says this with honest curiosity, not a trace of taunt or teasing in her tone, and listens as your team lists off their skills.

“Indeed, hopefully they will be useful and not a bother; I have enough on as it is with Athena’s ‘skills’.”

“Hey!”

“Just start, Athena.”

Athena saw the opportunity to show off and launched full tilt. “Ok. If you want someone who tells it like it is I’m your bird. I’m brutally honest. I’m also quick going into a battle and have the speed to match it. You won’t believe the number of Pokémon I’ve caught by surprise! Oh, and I get on well with most Pokémon. If you can take my comments, then I’ll be a good friend. Stand up for you, even against the end of the world, that’s me!”

Kali nodded approvingly. Illusia was next.

“I’m very smart. There is probably very little I don’t know about what’s in the history books. I am calm and patient. There is nothing that really ruffles me. I could be a bit more tidy, but that’s neither here nor there when in a guild. Athena does her talking (a lot of the time, unfortunately), and I do the more polite forms of conversation and observing. I notice a lot of things. If someone is clearly posher or easily offended, then I do all the talking. Finally, I’m stronger than I look. My parents were so proud at the strength of my psychic attacks, even if I am very slow in speed. So, when fighting I don’t think we’ll have a problem.”

Kali smiled. "Oh wow, that's pretty cool! You guys are lucky. Y'know sometimes I wish I had a better skill set like that; then maybe I’d be more help to the Guild. Pretty much the only things I do around here are draw and deliver papers everywhere and, well, get stuck helping Archie."

She says the last part with sudden venom, and your team gets the feeling that she’s not entirely fond of the Pokémon in question.

Illusia could understand that, however. Her dad had worked under Archimedes and it was…an unpleasant relationship. He sighed very often when he came home. Luckily, mum was very understanding, not working in the same department. The sight of her two Hypno parents cuddling up together was so sweet. Kali was talking again.

"I mean yeah sure he's one of the Guild Leaders, but he's just so... so... annoying, always bossing people around and taking credit for everything and acting like he's so much smarter than everyone else. And I'm always the one having to put up with him since someone has to help him but everyone else always runs off before they get stuck with him instead!"

Kali lets out a great huff of frustration, glancing away for a moment before remembering she has an audience.

Luckily for her, Athena was laughing quietly. “Just give him a kick on that bulbous head of his, maybe that will help!”

“Maybe…” Kali replied sheepishly.

Giving an embarrassed chuckle as her face slowly reddens, she says, "And oh gosh, there I go running my mouth, ahaha! Sorry, I'm not talking too much or anything, am I? I kind of have a tendency to ramble on sometimes... And I probably really shouldn’t be bad-mouthing Archimedes...”

With a sudden, panicked expression abruptly crossing her face as she remembers the mass of paper in her arms, she blurts, "And OH MY GOSH I still need to take care of these!"

She starts running down the hall, then abruptly pulls an about-face - accidentally whacking a passerby with her tail while doing so - to stammer, "Uh, it was nice meeting you! I'll, er, see you later, I hope?" She attempts to raise an arm to wave back, but stops when the paper pile in her arms wobbles precariously, and instead flashes a quick grin before stomping briskly away.

Illusia waved back while Athena called, “It was nice to meet you too.”

She turned to the Drowsee. “So, if Pokémon are going to be as crazy as her, we have some good company!”

Illusia shook her head. “Really, Athena! You never cease to surprise me.”

“And that’s what you like about me!”

True. After all, Athena’s surprises, while causing problems, had also solved some. Like when they had first met. Still, there was something that bothered her.

“What’s up?” Athena asked, noticing her worried expression, “We have a library to get to you know.”

They walked off; with Illusia muttering so only her friend could hear her. “There was a blueprint with all those scrolls…and I didn’t like the look of it…”
Here's my team for the Researchers Guild at PMDUnity.

Illusia is a studious Pokémon who loves history and would happily read a book all day. She is patient and calm, but she worries a lot. Athena often gets on her nerves, but they are closer friends than they appear. Athena isn't sharp minded and she's brutally honest. She does stand up to anyone and she does actually care a lot under her bravado. Illusia likes to attack from far away and plot before hand while Athena just wants to rush in and pound her way to victory.

This will be updated and edited every so often.

EDIT: Athena now has the DIY handbook for completing the Researcher June Task 2. She wants more attack moves and that is close enough! She'll learn it/use it when I say so. They also have 1 star coin from registering on Atlas, another 2 coins from errands 9 and 10 and a merit for the task. They have body paint for participating in the Frosty Festival.
They also now have a visual reference: fav.me/d7qwt5v
