Ombre-De-Nuit is a high-level "dark" digital group here on dA. The administrators of the group are darkly pleased to present you, our members, with our latest challenge: The Brothers Grimm meet Burton.

Your task, should you dare to undertake it, is to twist a Grimm Fairytale into a Burton-style Nightmare.

You can find examples of Grimm fairytales here. Some popular ones include Rapunzel, Hansel & Gretel, and Cinderella. You can choose one Grimm fairytale to twist; it's fine just to depict a scene of your choosing or make one up on your own. But, the fairytale should be at least somewhat recognizable, and it must have elements that are Burtonesque.

Think about what Burtonesque means. What is the undercurrent between Sweeney Todd, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride, and Dark Shadows? What is the feeling you get from them? What elements are similar between them?

The Rules

Here are the rules for this competition:

Only one entry per deviant.

Your art must be DIGITAL (any type) or PHOTOGRAPHY.

You must be a member of Ombre-De-Nuit to enter (but anyone can join).

In your artist's comments, you must:

Tell us which fairytale you are adapting

Credit any and all stock and resources you use. Use only legitimate stock. Ask if you are uncertain.

Your deviation must be uploaded on or after the time of this posting (June 29, 2014).

Your deviation should go under Fan Art > Digital Art.

Turn in your deviation to the "Grimm meets Burton" contest folder at Ombre-De-Nuit no later than 11:59 PM on 31 August 2014.
