Description

Fori Voriul [son of Vori] is biological father to Dori and Nori but not to Ori. He's one of the most renowned thieves in Middle Earth (yes, even better than Nori) and is part of a seven-member Underground Ring of crime-lords. He always carries a dozen or more knives on his person and therefore the other crime-lords know him as "Blade-Driver".

Fori is overflowing with intelligence and an excellent sense of humor, but with it comes a much darker side to him. Oftentimes his wit and sarcasm is used to cover the pain he's felt since childhood.

When he was young, Fori could never please his father Vori and failed to save his mother from Vori's eventually fatal abuses. Not long after his mother's death, Fori's father and siblings were killed in a house fire. Fori somehow blames himself for this and other things beyond his control, constantly struggling with self-harm. Perhaps it is because of his childhood tragedies that he is fiercely, almost violently protective of his wife, Jalane, and his firstborn son, Dori.

A year after Dori is born, when Jalane is pregnant with Nori, Fori rescues the youth Dwalin from a gang who was attacking him. The two become friends very quickly and to help Dwalin protect himself in the future, Fori crafts and gives to Dwalin his famous knuckle-dusters. Not long afterward, the other young Dwarf who had led the attack against Dwalin threatens baby Dori. He and his family are imprisoned for it, but Fori isn't going to accept that as the ultimate solution. He goes down to kill both the lad and his parents but a jailbreak has been staged for them. Fori is shot with three arrows and then stabbed in the chest.

Fundin, Dwalin, Balin, and their friend Hifur eventually find Fori in the prisons, taking him straight to medical care. He might have survived had the arrows not been dipped in the poison "Swift-Spread". Jalane and Dwalin both say goodbye to him and it is then that Fori dies. Dwalin later discovers that Mahal has granted that his knuckle-dusters act as something of an access for Fori's spirit, letting his lost friend speak to him even from the grave. Fori continues to walk with Dwalin through his life even to this day.
