FAQ & Tip Post

Welcome to the Post!
The Staff of SoW are always looking for ways to improve the group and make it into a place where all who are interested in the played topic can have fun. We strive to be a community that everybody can enjoy and create memories in, and so we do what we can to answer any questions and are always open to suggestions!

Perhaps you think there should be an addition or removal of a rule or process in the group’s guidelines? Maybe you have an idea that you feel would help with organization? Wanna see a new playable species? Please feel free to comment any recommendations or ideas you may have.

Or perhaps you have a question that you couldn’t find the answer to in any of our journals? Please check our list of Frequently Asked Questions below, or comment your question, and we’ll get back to you with an answer ASAP!

..Frequently Asked Questions..

What if I just want to draw? Do I have to RP?

No, you don't have to roleplay. If you just want to draw/paint, you are more then welcome to do that. You are not required to RP, although you must write out your character's background history/personality when you join initially.

I don't like drawing/don't have time ... can I just RP?

Absolutely. However, you will need to have a visual of your character when you submit your joining application, so if you can't draw, see if you can find someone else who can do it for you! (and is willing to draw a picture for you, for $$, :points:, or for free).

Can my Wolf Dog/Coydog be on a sled team?

Absolutely. However please keep in mind it may take time for a human to trust a wolf dog/coydog enough to let it on their team, and also for domesticated dogs to trust a wolf dog/coydog enough to run on a team with one.

Can my human character have a job but also have a sled team?

Of course. Being a Musher is not a 'job', you don't get paid for it (unless the winnings is money however it wouldn't be enough to have a living off of and take care of your dogs successfully).

Does my human character have to have a pet?

Not at all! They may be and remain pet-less, or acquire as many as they please!

snowflake v2 by catluvr2
Does my dog character have to have an owner?

No they do not, they may be a stray. However, please keep in mind that all miniature, or small dog breeds, as well as extremely short haired dogs will not survive Nome on the streets during winter. Please create your characters with this in mind!

snowflake v2 by catluvr2
Can my Mixed Breed dog be a sled dog?

Of course. If your character has the correct fur (to withstand the elements), and build to pull a sled it can be a sled dog!

snowflake v2 by catluvr2
Does someone have to play my characters owner?

You can play your own owner, or someone else can play it or you can simply spoof them (they don't have to be an actual character they can be an NPC or you can simply mention they have one or that they're hanging around etc. )

snowflake v2 by catluvr2
Are there any age restrictions on starting characters?

No, however,  just keep in mind that an orphaned wolf pup would have very little chance of survival on its own without a pack/family/caretaker etc. An orphaned puppy IN Nome would have a better chance, yet it would still be a hard life trying to scavenge food etc.

I don't want my character anymore, what do I do to get rid of it?

To get rid of a character, simple draw an exit picture and/or short story describing their demise. Afterwards, please inform a staff member that you no longer want that character so it can be removed from the character log. Once a character is 'deceased', you can not bring it back.

It says I can use a free base/line-art for my human character, can I as well for my canine or feline?

Of course! Drawing canines/felines is not everyone's "thing" so you are completely free to use line art as long as you credit the lineart owner properly!

Can my juvenile dog be a sled dog?

No. To be a sled dog, your character must be fully grown, i.e. Young Adult or Adult, and strong enough to pull the weight of both the sled and their musher.

This is still an active group, right? I wanna join, but just wanna know first.
(also, if it is, is it ok to go over the breed's weights if they're a more overweight dog?)
