So, you're thinking of joining The Roman Defection? Great! Here is a detailed explanation of how to go about getting your character accepted and becoming a member!

Step One: Please read/skim through all of the following journals.

Rules
About
Ranks
The Story
Administrator Rules
FAQ

Step Two: Create your character! Scroll down on this journal to see the rules on how to create a character that will get you accepted into the group.

Step Three: Send a note to the group with a link to your application and a little message just letting us know that you would like to join! Bonus points if you're new and you tell us why you're excited to join the group or one thing about yourself! We want to get to know our members because of how member-motivated this group will be.

Step Four: Wait for our feedback! We will respond to your note with either confirmation that your character has been accepted, or let you know what to fix so you can get in.

Note: If you are already a member of the group and are submitting an application for an additional character, still send us a note with a link to your character and we will either request for the application to be submitted to the group or let you know if you have to fix something.

Welcome to The Roman Defection!

CHARACTER RULES

Creation

Species -- Most big cat species are accepted into TRD. Small cat species, however, will be denied. Examples of these include domestic cats, sand cats, and others. A list of accepted and denied species will be provided at a later date. None feline species, such as canines, equines, humans, etc, are not allowed.

Mutations -- There will be a limited amount of mutations allowed in the Ferox, Solus, Hunters, and Olum. These limits can be found at the top of each groups’ character lists.

Hybrids -- There will not be a limit on hybrids (Unless there is a limit on a specific species in one group. Example: Ferox has put a limit on tigers during this opening, so you cannot submit a liger, because it is part tiger). However, hybrids must be kept within the breeding groups found in the Rules. You cannot start off a hybrid character with more than two species. For example, you cannot submit a character that is a mix between a serval, caracal, and lynx. You must pick two of them, unless your character is a cub of existing characters that causes him/her to have more than two species in his or her bloodline. (More information on breeding limits can be found in our Rules journal.)

Armor -- The Bounty Hunters are armored and may often get armor updates and revisions. However, the Defectors do not create their own armor. They will not own armor unless they have armor they brought with them from the city of Rome when they escaped or stole armor from somewhere after they escaped, which must be mentioned somewhere in their description. Defectors who do not have armor usually pack their fur with thick mud to protect themselves in battle.

Information

Each application must have a certain amount of information put in the description. The following information is recommended to be in the description of an application (anything marked with :star: is required):

:star: Name

Naming Your Character -- Most characters will have Roman or Greek names, or names that represent items such as "Leaf" or "Jewel". Characters in the Olum who originated from Homeland might have names from other languages, such as Russian, Turkish, Scandinavian, and more. Characters originating from the Roman area may also have these names, but it may be less common. Most names will be allowed, but please try to stay away from "Warriors" type names. If a name is offensive or inappropriate, the admins might ask you to change the name of your character.

Creating Your Application -- Please put your character's design and all of their correct information on the application sheet that you want your character to go into.

TRD || Olum Application by TRD-Staff TRD || Solus Application by TRD-Staff TRD || Bounty Hunter Application by TRD-Staff TRD || Ferox Application by TRD-Staff

If you are not an artist, you may commission or request someone to draw your character application, or you can submit a text deviation with all the above information on it, plus a detailed description of what your character looks like in the "Physical Description" section. We will let you know if there is not enough information on your character's appearance.

Transfers, and Returns

What if you would like to join with an EBC Characters, or return to the group with a character that you pulled out ? Well the answer is pretty simple.

EBC to TRD

1. Since previous-EBC cats are different than just submitting a completely new character to TRD in the sense that they have a backstory and EP (Empire Points, EBC's equivalent of deni), there are different requirements for them when switching over. The first is a sort of 'assignment'.
You must write a short story explaining why your character is switching. Explain how they are traveling to Rome, their feelings about being switched, a goodbye to a loved one, or whatever you'd like. No less than 800 words.

2. Assuming that people already have ranks for their characters in EBC, it would be unfair of us to deny a Gladiator from EBC a similar rank in Ferox, such as a Falcon or Gatherer, simply because we aren't open for that rank. Or, say you want to put an apprentice into the Hunters, but we don't have any apprentice spots open, so you have to go down to Tribune. That wouldn't make sense for your character, and would be super annoying for you to deal with.
You must wait for TRD to open for new members and characters! We will, however, make it easy for you to get the rank you wish by letting you join the group with whatever rank you want, regardless of whether it is actually open or not.

3. Another thing we have to take into consideration is your character's EP count. Since you did do a lot of work for the EP you earned in EBC, and since that art is technically part of your now-TRD character's past, the EP is transferrable.
In your character's application, please put in there somewhere how much EP the cat had built up from EBC. This is an easy way for us to keep track of the amount of deni we're giving you, and for you to actually keep that EP that you have earned. There is no need to submit every single piece of art to TRD's gallery (unless you want to). Additionally, if your character has a deni tracker you would like to keep up-to-date, make sure you include how much EP they got from EBC in there, as well.

TRD to EBC

EBC will have a little different policy for taking in former TRD cats. You will need to have mentioned somewhere in your character's history that they lived in Rome for a time. EBC also transfers deni into EP, so be sure to include your deni count on your character's EBC application. If you are unsure you can check on our Character Sheets , or send us a note, and we will give you the exact number.

Faction to Faction

A deviation about the move must be posted and a note sent to the Admin with the link before the move will be allowed.
  • An admin actually misspelled it as "fraction to fraction" but then staniqs made a joke which forced us to change it. It's a funny memory which is why this note is here, don't tell the other admins

Olum to Bounty Hunter

800 words minimum
Since the olum are a new fraction with strict traditions and are unfriendly with the Hunters - to have your character move from Olum to Hunters you will need to submit at least 800 words involving their change, how it happened, etc. This is to keep the story realistic and allow members to really think their move over. This does not need to happen during an opening and they will get the slot that is the equivalent of their old slot.

All Others
500 words minimum
As its much more realistic for a Hunter to become a Solus or a Solus to become a Ferox or any combination of the 3 the minimum amount of words is much less - 500.  This does not need to happen during an opening and they will get the slot that is the equivalent of their old slot.

Returns

We understand members may pull characters out of the group and renter them at a later time - though we dont encourage it if done excessively  -  to have your character return you must
Submit Character with complete and full references during an opening PLUS a deviation explaining their absence no less than 700 words OR sketch with 500 words OR a full bodied colored picture with 300 words.
They will be allowed in regardless of locks, slots etc. You will get the spot your character had previously (or an equivalent if they've moved to a different fraction) even if its not open.
