“Give me the keys.”
“... I'd prefer to drive, actually.”
“We don't have time for you to drive. Now give me the keys.”

Beside an old, heavily run-down farmhouse was an old dirt road that stretched on for miles. The only thing in sight, besides the disused farm, were trees and open fields for as far as one could see. Parked in front of the rusted mailbox in front of the farm was a sparkling white Lamborghini that glimmered in the sun and badly conflicted with the rustic surroundings.

Two people stood beside the car as they argued over who would take the seat behind the wheel. The first was a young man in a fancy black suit and tie, with white hair and sunglasses to block the glare coming from overhead. He held a metal briefcase in his left hand and the keys to the expensive sports car in his right.

“It's just this is a rental so-”
“So then what do you even care? It has insurance and it's not even yours. Now give me the keys before it gets away.”

The young man's companion was a dark-haired Asian woman with piercing red eyes, a yellow t-shirt with white trim and black pants. She wore heavy black bracelets surrounded in  tiny golden spikes. Her left hand was outstretched, palm eagerly awaiting the car keys.

“... I like this car, Nanami.”
Give me the damn keys, Marco.”

With a sigh, Marco tossed the keys to his brooding companion and rushed for the passenger side door. By the time he climbed in, she was already behind the wheel and starting the engine. Marco barely had enough time to close his door and snap his seat belt in place before they were roaring down the road.

Before he could even blink, the car was speeding down the dirt road at sixty miles an hour, kicking up dust all around them that Marco knew would soon coat the otherwise impeccable white paint. He sighed and leaned back, trying to ignore the rising annoyance in his stomach.

Nanami clenched the wheel so tightly that her knuckles began to turn white. Her scarlet eyes narrowed as she kept her sights clear on the road in front of them. She did not seem to care how fast they were going, or how loudly the engine roared in protest of her treatment. She said nothing at first – until she spotted something in the horizon.

A dust cloud, similar to the one the car kicked up around it. Upon spotting it, Nanami's eyes went wide and a satisfied smile crept onto the corner of her lip. “There it is!”

“It's amazing how quick you can catch up to something when you're pushing a hundred miles an hour!” Marco pointed out with a groan. It was not that he was opposed to speed – he actually found it exhilarating – but he knew Nanami well enough to know what would come next, and he was dreading it.

“Get ready.” Nanami told him flatly as she accelerated even faster. They were now closing in quickly on their target, and Marco could see it better – and he had to whistle at the sight. It was a strange and impressive thing to see, even if it was the stuff of nightmares.

Just in front of them on the roar was an enormous horse. From the bottoms of its hooves to the tip of its head had to be at least twelve feet tall. The creature's fur, what little was left, was as black as pitch. Most of its body had no fur, or even skin – merely the skeletal frame of bone. Beneath those bones burnt a fire unlike any Marco had ever seen in his life. The same infernal flames burnt in place of a tail or a mane, and smoke billowed from the great beast's nostrils.

“There has to be another way.” Marco looked over to the woman behind the driver's seat. “We could follow it, maybe it will tire out eventually.”

“Demonic steeds don't tire.” Nanami replied coldly. “They just keep running and running and only stop to feed, and we do not want that to happen.”

Marco sighed deeply, running his hand through his hair. He knew it was pointless to argue with her. Nanami's stubbornness was the stuff of legends, and he knew there was nothing he could say in the precious little time they had that would change her mind.

“I really liked this car.” Marco mumbled as he unfastened his safety belt and placed his hand on the handle.

Although her crimson eyes never once stopped staring at the beast before them, one of Nanami's hands moved to the handle of her door, and she spoke to him: “I know, but this is happening. Make sure to duck and roll.”

“I know. It's not like this is the first time I've had to jump out of a moving car because of you.” Marco replied with a grumble.

A second later and Nanami slammed her foot down on the gas, propelling the car forward towards the great hind legs of the burning beast. Just before the impact, the two opened their doors and jumped out. The ground was hard and as they slammed into it and rolled, both felt pain radiate through their bodies.

It was hard to concentrate on the pain too much with the thunderous sound of the car smashed into the monster's legs. The Lamborghini collided at nearly one hundred and twelve miles per hour and managed to knock the great burning horse down flat on its face; an explosion of flames billowed up into the sky as the fiery sparks from the collision ignited the fuel in the car.

Marco sat up with a groan, first examining his metal briefcase – which was perfectly intact – and then looking at his arm. He was thankful to find it wasn't broken or dislocated, although it hurt. His jacket had not fared nearly as well – practically ripped to shreds and stained with blood from where his skin had been battered by the road. The white shirt he wore beneath was equally torn and stained, leaving the young man to be glad he had a spare in the briefcase.

Nanami had not done much better, her bare arm bleeding from several spots as she jumped to her feet. The legging of her pants on the left was ripped and blood had dribbled down onto her shirt, but Nanami did not seem to care. She was already running forward as fast as she could towards where the ruined remains of the car and the bellowing beast were intertwined on the ground.

The demonic horse was thrashing about as it tried to climb back to its feet, but the back legs were broken beyond repair by the impact. Nanami stepped forward, only for the creature to whip its head around and expel a great jet of flames from its nostrils. The flames blew by her face, just a few feet too far to the left to burn her to cinders.

“Your aim's off.” Nanami said simply as she motioned with her hands. Suddenly the ground shook all around, and seconds later from several spots around the fallen monster geysers of groundwater came bubbling up to the surface and shot at the flaming horse with the strength and speed of a fireman's hose.

The monster let out a terrible scream that sounded almost human as the flames within its skeletal form were quickly covered by the muddy water and extinguished. The monster kicked its front legs and darted its head back and forth, trying to move away from the waters that soaked it down to its very core, but within a few seconds the flames had turned into smoldering embers, and then they went out entirely.

A thick, black smoke sailed up from the remains of the beast as its bones began to crumble and decay. In less than a minute the monster had fallen apart into a pile of ashes as jet black smoke slowly rose up and floated away on the breeze.

“... Did you have to wreck the car?”

Nanami turned her head with a sigh to see Marco now standing beside her. He sat his briefcase down for a moment and opened it, pulling out a small, round orb the size of a marble. He rolled it between his thumb and forefinger for a moment before turning and throwing it at the black smoke that wafted in the air.

The moment the orb came in contact with the smoke there was a suddenly burst of light and the sharp crackle of electricity. There was a static feeling the air, and a smell similar to rain. The black smoke suddenly burst into flames and evaporated from the air, dissolving away into nothingness.

Marco then bent down and closed his briefcase and picked it back up, and as he did he found himself face to face with Nanami.

“I'm sorry about the car.” She said flatly, in a tone that did not sound completely sincere. She slowly shrugged her shoulders. “On the plus side, now we get a nice walk in the country.”

She turned and started off down the dirt road, leaving Marco to just laugh and shake his head before he turned and followed after her.
Another rather short story, this one loosely based off the original world I'm building for Nanami.

I always imagined Nanami as being a bit like James Bond when it comes to driving. She's actually an incredible driver and capable of driving many types of vehicles - they just usually end up destroyed somehow by the time the vehicle has come to a stop.

I approve of having Marco be part of this world.  XDDD

That story was quite entertaining and hilarious.  And geez, once again, I think you're even better at writing as Marco than I am, and I MADE Marco! XDDX

And I love that ending. It's definitely Marco to be like, after that "apology" by Nanami (“I'm sorry about the car.”), he's like "I know you aren't, but I don't care" about it. :XD:

Awesome work, GS!!
