Prince Emil Steilsson...

I've heard that name before...

Princess (Name) walked around the Royal Gardens, as the bittersweet breeze of the early morning made her gorgeous {H/C} hair flutter elegantly.

Rumors have been spreading around our kingdom...

Rumors about Prince Emil...

Saying that he is cold-hearted and reckless.

Yet I do not believe these rumors, since...

I haven't met him in person yet.

The young princess' {F/C}-colored dress swayed gracefully, as Princess (Name) stopped near a small grassland where certain flowers grew.

Beautiful white flowers, an emblem of Prince Emil's kingdom...

White Dryads.

Smiling confidently, the young princess kneeled down, as she picked the delicate white flower, and brought it to her nose, to feel its pleasant scent.

As a Princess, I have to assume my duties...

My parents, Queen (Mother Name) and King (Father Name), are in desperate need of money to maintain the well-being of our prospering kingdom...

Yet it seemed there wasn't any option to opt for.

Or so I believed.

The {H/C}-haired princess sighed, as she got up to her feet, and continued her walk around the peaceful Gardens, until she suddenly came to a halt, upon hearing the familiar voice of one of her royal messengers.

"Your Highness! Your Highness!" Came the lithuanian accent of one of Princess (Name)'s royal messengers, commonly known by courtesans as Toris Laurinaitis.

Whipping her head towards the approaching young Lithuanian, the {E/C}-eyed princess chuckled softly.

"Yes? What is it now, Toris?" The young {H/C}-haired princess asked kindly, as the Lithuanian ran towards Princess (Name), with a parchment in hand, that was just taken out of his satchel. The poor lithuanian man was panting heavily, as he endured running far and wide, as well as taking short breaks between trips, to deliver the parchment to the female royal.

Curiousity flooding her being, Princess (Name) gently took the parchment from Toris' grasp, and examined it closely.

"What's this?" Princess (Name) asked, gazing over to the young lithuanian man, who was catching his breath.

"It's...It's an invitation from abroad." Toris gasped between his heavy panting.

Invitation?

Is it from Prince Emil...?

The inquisitive {H/C}-haired princess unraveled the parchment, as she scanned it with shiny and optimistic {E/C} irises.

You are hereby invited to the masked ball,
In honor of Prince Emil's 17th birthday.

Princess (Name) chuckled, as she raveled up the parchment, and glanced towards the Lithuanian royal messenger.

"You're free to go now, Toris. Resume your duties, and only come when you're needed." Princess (Name) stated to the young Lithuanian messenger.

"As you wish, Your Majesty." The Lithuanian messenger bowed respectfully in return, as he turned around, walking the way back he came.

The {H/C}-haired princess smiled, as her mind fell into thoughts about the upcoming event, while she continued her walk through the Royal gardens.

A masked ball?

In honor of Prince Emil's birthday?

I wonder...

Suddenly, the young princess came across a bronze cage, where a small family of butterflies was kept. Princess (Name) walked over to it, as her nimble fingers grasped the small handle of the cage door.

Colorful butterflies are the symbol of my kingdom.

Once the {H/C}-haired, {E/C}-eyed royal opened the door to the butterfly cage, the frail, delicate insects flew away into the horizon.
The young princess sighed deeply, as she watched the symbolical creatures fly freely, their fragile wings fluttering rhythmically, as they soar above the clouds of dawn.

It was only a matter of time...

Before...

The Puffin could meet the Butterfly.

Far beyond the walls and towers of Princess (Name)'s castle, past the gates and border to her kingdom...

Lied the ever quiet kingdom of Prince Emil and his parents: King Steil and Queen Dúna, who were growing more and more concerned about their son's constant negative, indifferent behavior towards other princesses.

"Hmph." The cold-hearted Icelandic prince scoffed in annoyance, as he sat lazily on his throne, gazing around him, his cheek resting on his fist, his elbows resting on the golden armrests of his throne.

From what it seemed, Prince Emil wasn't too excited about what was about to come by nightfall.

The masked ball would begin at nightfall.

Until then...

Preparations back in the kingdom of Princess (Name) had to be done.

The {H/C}-haired princess twirled once in front of a large pinewood mirror, as she was currently wearing a frilly, sophisticated ballgown, that was specially tailored for the upcoming masked ball.

Insecure {E/C} eyes stared down at the {F/C} dress, as the young princess wasn't really sure about the design and color.

"You will like, look so fabulous wearing this, Your Majesty!" Came a cheerful Polish accent of one of the royal paupers, Feliks Łukasiewicz.

"If you say so, Feliks." the Princess huffed, as she twirled once more.

The young Polish man smiled brightly, watching the young princess with his emerald-green eyes. According to him, the dress Princess (Name) was currently wearing fit her perfectly.

Yes indeed, Feliks did have good taste when it came to fashion...

But the dress wasn't really to the taste of the young princess after all.

"Hmm, I think it's too...simple." Princess (Name) said, turning from side to side, examining her looks.

"Whatever fits you best, Your Highness." The young Polish man chuckled, as he rummaged through an arrangement of various royal dresses Princess (Name) had, all made by him.

"How about this one, Your Majesty?" Feliks asked, holding up a poofy ballgown, that was heavily accented with ribbons and artificial flowers.

"Uhh, don't you think it's a bit much, Feliks?" The young princess asked, as she gestured to the dress, a look of disgust plastered on her face.

Feliks only shrugged, as he stashed away the poofy ballgown, that clearly wasn't to the princess' taste.

Princess (Name) took a good look around the room, as she suddenly sets her sights on a certain dress, as she gazed over to Feliks, catching his attention.

"Tak? Your Highness?" The Polish man grinned politely, as he looked towards the young royal, the {H/C}-haired princess pointed to a dress that was kept away from the rest, as of only a small portion of it could be seen, as it was within a decorated trunk, that had Princess (Name)'s name engraved on it with letters of silver.

"Ah, that one Your Highness! Let me take it out for you!" Feliks said cheerfully, as he took out the certain dress out of the golden trunk that was left open, as well as a little disorganized on the inside, from Feliks' point of view.

"This is the one." Princess (Name) nodded, once she saw how the ballgown really looked like.

It was an enchanting shade of navy blue, with a small stripe of red going down from the waistline to the bottom, a thinner stripe of white over the red one, as the dress was also slightly frilly, long skinny sleeves, complimented with a light blue lace around the neck area, and it was topped off with a large ribbon around the waist, posing as a belt.

Princess (Name) giggled happily, twirling around, as she danced around gracefully, her new ballgown fluttering in the afternoon winds.
Of course, Toris along with other two of Princess (Name)'s royal messengers, Raivis and Eduard, were watching her enjoy the nature around her, while she still had the time before she could go the masked ball she was invited to.

The young {H/C}-haired princess sighed dreamily, as she approached the three messengers.

Ï think I'm ready as I'll ever be." Princess (Name) stated to her three messengers, who only exchanged glances between them.

"Really? Who would go to a masked ball without a mask?" Eduard informed, taking out from behind him a small, beautifully-crafted, hand-held {F/C} mask.

It was simple, with a small touch of glitter.

"You made this, for me? Thank You very much, it was indeed kind of you three." The young princess' {E/C} eyes widened in pure surprise, as she took the frail mask from Eduard's grasp, as the Estonian messenger stood with his back straight, and pushed his glasses up his nose.

"Jūs esate sveiki, Jūsų Didenybė." Toris replied shyly, bowing respectfully, as a slight blush creeped up his cheeks.

"Sa oled teretulnud, Teie Majesteet." Eduard nodded, as he bowed to the female royal, in utter respect.

The third messenger, Raivis, the youngest, was a little shaky in his speaking...

"Jūs esat laipni, Jūsu Augstība." Raivis replied, as he bowed last, glancing up towards Princess (Name), who only smiled at the younger Latvian messenger.

The three messengers watched with curious eyes, as Princess (Name) entered the castle, closing the huge mahogany door behind her.

The cold-hearted Icelandic prince was glancing at his reflection in the mirror, a frown plastered on his face.

The masked ball was only a couple of hours away.

He was wearing a quite fancy Imperial suit, fitting for a prince.

Prince Emil huffed, as he fixed a white ribbon around his neck, as suddenly, his violet eyes fell upon a silver cage, where his puffin was kept in.

Puffins were the symbolical animals of the kingdom of Prince Emil.

As the young prince opened the small cage door, the puffin flew into the open window located in his chambers.

Prince Emil sighed, as he watched his puffin fly elegantly, its wings fluttering in a regal manner.

Suddenly, the prince's attention was caught when a silent knock was heard at the door to his chamber.

"Enter." The Icelandic prince shuttered, not even bothering to look towards the door, to see who was interrupting him.

"King Steil wants to see his son in the Throne Room." Came a stern German-accented voice, that only belonged to one of Prince Emil's royal guards, Ludwig Beilschmidt.

Prince Emil only huffed in defeat, as he walked over to the blond-haired, broad-shouldered, muscular guard.
"What does he want now?" The Prince asked coldly, evident annoyance in his tone of voice.
"It's about the masked ball and its purpose, Eurer Eminenz." The German guard replied simply, his ice-cold irises gazing towards a large oak door, that was located just across the large contemporaneous halls.

"That stupid ball has a purpose?" The young Icelandic prince thought, as he walked through the quiet halls of the castle.

The most eye-catching touches in Prince Emil's castle were the multicolored stained-glass windows.

Beautiful designs that were carefully put together...

White Dryads, the floral emblem of Prince Emil's kingdom...

The Nordic Cross...

And even the royal symbol...

A crowned puffin.

As Prince Emil made his way to the Throne Room, his deft fingers brushed against the wooden structure of the gigantic oak door, as the cold-hearted Icelandic prince pushed the door open with ease, whereas his father, King Steil, was waiting for him.

"Come in, son." The King's Icelandic-accented voice bellowed, luring his son into the large Throne Room.

"It's been pointed out to me that the exact purpose of the upcoming masked ball is for you, young man, to choose your future bride." King Steil stated, gesturing towards a huge window by the thrones, whereas puffins flew freely, flapping their wings rhythmically, as they danced across the skies of sunset.

"Ridiculous. I won't do it." Prince Emil muttered, crossing his arms and scoffing.

"It's for the good of the kingdom, and if we want it united, you must accept it the way it is, son."

"Hmph." Prince Emil gazed away from his father, as his lips arched into a frown.

"There's no other way, son. You must marry a princess, and only a princess." King Steil's deep voice sounded through the Throne Room, almost causing the ground to shake beneath the Icelandic prince's feet, and the puffins at the window near the thrones to fly away and scatter in every direction.

"Now, go prepare yourself for things to come. And remember: Whoever is your destined one, she will love you for the rest of your life."

King Steil might be a wise man, yet his son refused to cooperate.

The young prince, disagreeing with his father's complies, stormed out of the Throne Room, stomping his way back into his chambers, passing by his three royal guards, Feliciano, Ludwig and Kiku.

~ ~ ~ Time Skip brought to you by puffins soaring across your screen ~ ~ ~

"I will not have to be doing what he says." Prince Emil's mind fell upon the situation he was facing.

Clearly, Prince Emil wasn't expecting the mentioning of marriage.

And besides, he was also too young to be wed...

He barely turned 17 that very day.

The skies soon darkened, signaling that the masked ball was merely seconds away from now.

~ ~ ~ Yet another lovely Time Skip brought to you by Princess (Name)'s butterflies ~ ~ ~

Princess (Name) sighed deeply, as her {E/C}-colored orbs sparkled with curiosity, as she looked out the window from her carriage, admiring the view of the castle where Prince Emil and his parents resided.

Immense towers hovered over an aristocratic-looking garden...

Hardy walls of marble...

A grandiose flag, showcasing the the silhouette of a crowned puffin, fluttered in the night breeze...

Beautiful, uniquely-designed stained-glass windows...

A majestic capella, truly eye-catching...

The unforgotten royal symbol...

A colony of puffins...

Guarded the outskirts of the castle.

The only place the well-known masked ball was going to be held, in honor of Prince Emil's 17th birthday.

The horse soon came to a halt, as the carriage made its stop by a large staircase, which lead into Prince Emil's castle.
"Her Loyal Highness, Princess (Name)!" A cheerful Danish male opened the door of the carriage, as the {H/C}-haired princess stepped out.
"Thank you, Mathias." The kind-hearted princess smiled towards the Dane, as he bowed respectfully in response, a childish grin growing on his face, as he watched the young princess head to the ball, with his bright cerulean irises.

~ ~ ~ Time Skip brought to you by Puffins and Butterflies flying along across your screen ~ ~ ~

Time has come for the Butterfly and the Puffin to finally meet...

Princess (Name) gazed around her, as she couldn't get her sights off of how magnificent Prince Emil's castle looked on the inside.
The young princess' {E/C}-eyes suddenly widened, as she came across the great ballroom.

The ballroom seemed crowded, but I'm sure it'll settle down...

Once Prince Emil makes his appearance to the guests.

Surely, Princess (Name) didn't want to bump into any couples that were dancing, but as she struggled to pass by without causing any trouble...

Trumpets sounded throughout the ballroom.

Princess (Name), as well as the other guests were all eyes and ears to one Prince Emil's royal guards of Italian origin, Feliciano Vargas.

The guard's pretty clumsy, but I can't wait to see Prince Emil...

The Italian royal guard cleared his throat, as he spoke loudly to the people within the ballroom.

"Ve~ His Regal Majesty, Principe Emil!~" The Italian guard announced in a gleeful tone of voice, as the indigo-colored curtains draped away, as a young snow-haired Icelandic prince came into the view of all of the other royals present. Including Princess (Name), who could only let out a faint gasp.

Prince Emil indeed looked handsome...

Prince Emil gazed down at Princess (Name), as a carmine blush creeped upon the female royal's cheeks.
The Icelandic royal began to stroll by the guests, as the invited royals, made room for the cold-hearted prince so he could pass freely.

Prince Emil stopped just a few meters away from me.

"Má ég hafa þetta dans?" The Icelandic prince asked in a rather careless manner, extending his hand for Princess (Name) to take.
The young Princess gladly accepted Prince Emil's hand, as they both walk to the middle of the ballroom, whereas the invited royals stepped away, and watched with widened eyes, and mouths agape.

They haven't seen Prince Emil act so proper towards me, or just any other princess...

Was I special in some way...?

The two young bluebloods remained silent during their waltz, the Icelandic prince glanced away from the {H/C}-haired princess, a constant unloving expression painted upon his face.

Prince Emil seemed so cold-hearted and indifferent...

Well...

His heart may be as cold as ice...

Yet I could feel warm blood running through his veins.

Prince Emil's ravishing azure cape swayed finely, as his skillful steps were followed closely by the young princess' light-footed movements.

"You're pretty good at waltzing." Princess (Name) stiffened a giggle, as she twirled, holding tightly onto Emil's hand.

"Shut up." The Icelandic prince muttered coldly under his breath, yet the joyful {H/C}-haired princess heard him loud and clear.

And so...

Prince Emil and I danced to our hearts' content.

Under the watchful eyes of his parents.

"Such a beautiful ballgown." Queen Dúna stated, admiring the pleasant view of the lively waltzing of Prince Emil and Princess (Name).

"Do you think she might be our son's destined one?" King Steil's deep voice was heard, as his magnificent queen could only chuckle softly.

"We'll have to wait and let destiny take its course. After all, I'm certain our son will change, and eventually learn what love is." The queen smiled at her king optimistically.

Princess (Name) gazed into the prince's vibrant violet-colored irises, as she could sense a more kind and loyal side of the young prince.

Yet he refused to show it...

As their waltzing continued in a graceful manner, Princess (Name)'s heel suddenly slipped, as she about to fall, yet a strong arm prevented her from falling to the ground.

Sudden loud gasps erupted from the guests, at the sight they set their eyes upon.

Prince Emil caught me right before I could fall and possibly hurt myself.

Prince Emil stared with wide-eyed indigo irises towards the Princess in his arms, as a deep pink blush tainted his cheeks.

The {E/C}-eyed princess blinked, as she blushed furiously, covering her mouth, as she felt utterly embarrassed, as she didn't even dare to gaze towards Prince Emil.

The entire ballroom fell into a state of compelling silence, as the two bluebloods, quickly regained their postures.

"Oh, um, thank you." The {H/C}-haired princess stuttered, as she took out from behind her a lacy fan, which she began to flutter it just above her nose, in a coy feminine manner.

"Þú ert velkomin, yðar hátign."

The snow-haired Icelandic prince gazed towards the princess next to him, as she avoided eye contact, her gaze focused on the couples that were still elegantly waltzing in the ballroom, as the classic waltz music sounded more enchanting than ever.

~ ~ ~ Time Skip a day after the ball ~ ~ ~

Princess (Name) gazed with glinting {E/C} eyes around her surroundings, as she was resting her chin on the palm of her hand, as she stood by the window of her room, as the curtains fluttered in the afternoon winds.
Suddenly, the young princess'{E/C}-eyes widened, as what she sighted.

A puffin...?

But how?

Princess (Name) extended her hand at the black and white bird, as it landed on her arm.

What could this mean?

Shortly, the puffin resting on the princess' arm took flight shortly, flying back from where it came.

Princess (Name) gave a deep sigh, as the bright rays of the sun enlightened her gorgeous {H/C} locks.

Hope has wings.

Back in Prince Emil's kingdom, The royal Icelander strolled by the aristocratic gardens, as suddenly, his indigo-colored irises averted towards a small grassland where (Favourite Flower) grew.

The young prince huffed, as he approached the certain grassland, and crouched down. His violet eyes examined the flowers, as suddenly a butterfly came in sight.

It was expected for the cold-hearted prince to ignore it, but the fragile-winged insect did otherwise, and landed on Prince Emil's finger.
Prince Emil grumbled, as he tried to shoo the butterfly away, as it soon flew the way back it came.

Prince Emil's fate has been decided.

~ ~ ~ Time [A/N: *cough*day*cough*] skip brought to you by pixie dust ~ ~ ~

When am I going to see Prince Emil again...?

Princess (Name)'s mind fell into deep thoughts, as she admired the pleasant view of the sunset, as she sat by the balcony of her room.

I was in luck, since Prince Emil had decided to pay me a visit...

Smiling confidently to herself, Princess (Name) began to sing, her charming voice sounding for miles and miles, as well as catching the attention of a certain Icelandic prince, who turned out to be nearby.

Freezing in his tracks, Prince Emil turned around, to glance into the distance, seeing a balcony decorated by (Favourite Flowers) whereas a familiar figure of a {H/C}-haired princess stood, her song of brilliance sounded like angels singing to his ears, which seemed to charm him constantly.

As Prince Emil reached Princess (Name)'s balcony, the princess suddenly stopped her singing, as she gave a tiny gasp, upon setting her sights on the Icelandic prince.

"You...you came for me." Princess (Name) said, as she placed her hands to her heart, as she could feel the flattering feeling that made her heart thump faster and faster.

"Já." Prince Emil replied rather bluntly, a pinky blush dusting his cheeks.
The young Princess extended her hand, trying to reach for the prince.
Prince Emil realized what Princess (Name) had in mind, as he too extended his hand, as it reached hers, their fingers touching lightly.

I could see Prince Emil force a smile when our fingers touched...

He indeed had a bit of a liking for me...

But we just met...

Was it when he caught me before I could fall, at the masked ball?

If so...

He was starting to care about me.

~ ~ ~ Time Skip to the next day ~ ~ ~

Princess (Name)'s bare feet soaked into the saltwater, as the foamy waves crashed onto the shore.

The sea is what separated our kingdoms.

It was posing as a border.

Yet this very day...

Is about to change for all eternity.

"Your Highness." Came the familiar Icelandic accent of Prince Emil, as the {E/C}-eyed blueblood spun around, to come face-to-face with him.

"What's the matter, Your Excellency?" Princess (Name) asked the prince, tilting her head to the side in confusion.

"I wanted to tell you something, Your Highness." The Icelandic prince flushed a bright red.

As many other regalbloods knew him, Prince Emil was as stubborn and as cold-hearted as a puffin.

"What is it?" The princess became curious, as her {E/C} irises sparkled, as if pleading the young prince to tell her the truth behind the whole arrangement of the masked ball. Which only Prince Emil knew about.

"It's about that pointless masked ball." Prince Emil stated, crossing his arms.

"My parents want me to marry you." Prince Emil confessed, as he gazed away from Princess (Name), unable to hold back the embarrassment of telling the oblivious princess the ugly truth.

M-Marriage?!

"B-But...aren't we too young to be wed yet?" Princess (Name) shuttered, as she was completely baffled by the whole purpose of the masked ball she had attended.

The prince sighed, as Princess (Name) placed a hand to his cheek, as the cold radiated to the princess' caring hand.

Both Prince Emil and I share blueblood in our veins...

We felt it was too early for us to be wed yet...

But that's how fate chose it to be.

"I guess we can make it through, if that's what the King and Queen want." Princess (Name) cracked a smile, as Prince Emil gazed into her enchanting {E/C} irises, confidence and kindness growing within his very being.

I was delicate and kind-hearted, just like a butterfly.

"Right." Prince Emil said, as he suddenly grasped hold of Princess (Name)'s hands.

His hands felt so warm...

Princess (Name) chuckled, as she kissed the young prince straight on the lips, making Prince Emil flush furiously, as he blended into the kiss, enjoying every single moment. The young princess wrapped her arms around the Icelandic prince's neck, thus deepening their kiss. Once they pulled back for air, the young {E/C} eyed princess chuckled, as she wrapped her arms around Prince Emil, inviting him to a hug, he felt awkward at first, his face burning pink...
Yet little by little, Prince Emil accepted the hug with quiet dignity.
Suddenly, a magical force lifted the two bluebloods off the sandy shores, as their forms were enveloped by magic trails, Princess (Name) was given a magical pair of butterfly wings, as a sparkling {F/C} dress fluttered in the magical-force winds that transformed her into a mystical butterfly princess. Prince Emil was magically given a pair of black puffin wings, as a silver crown was summoned atop his head. He was transforming into the puffin prince. Throughout their transformation, Prince Emil and Princess (Name) held tightly onto each other, never wanting to let go.
Once the magic trails dissipated, and the magical force set the new couple onto the sand, the prince and princess glanced at their new given form.

(Name) could only smile confidently, exchanging glances with Prince Emil.

The following day, the people of both kingdoms gathered to the union of His Highness Prince Emil and Princess (Name).

The Princess grinned gleefully, as Prince Emil gently lifted the soft veil, as his hands gripped the princess' hands tightly.
The bluebloods leaned in for a magical kiss, as the wedding guests roared with cheers.

And so, Prince Emil and I were proclaimed the new King and Queen of our now united kingdom.

As King Emil carried his newly-wedded bride down the staircase of his castle, the wedding bells chimed louder than ever before.

I couldn't be more happier to be in my king's arms.

Puffins and Butterflies flew gracefully by the just married couple, as Queen (Name) caressed her king's cheek gingerly.

I love you, forever and always.

"Ég elska þig líka, mín drottning." King Emil replied, as a rare smile grazed his features.

"And here it may end the story of the Puffin and the Butterfly."
I promised a couple of my watchers this story, and I'm glad I could finally 'take my heart in my teeth' and bear finishing this story.

Watch out, though it is pretty long. And I hope you'll be patient when reading. ^^;

The one thing i thought of "I don't love you but I need more time. Promise me, you'll be mine"
