Origin:
The Campolina breed was created in 1870 when Cassiano Campolina crossed the Barb mare Medéia with an Andalusian stallion. The resulting foal was a dark grey colt named Monarca, the very first Campolina horse. Over the years the breed was refined with horses from the following breeds: Mangalarga Marchador, Anglo-Norman, Clydesdale, Holsteiner, American Saddle Horse and later even Criollos and Thoroughbreds. In reality there are about 85,000 registered Campolina horses and more than 7,300 breeders.

Features:
All colours are possible, most common are bay, silver-grey, dun, buckskin or pinto
Height is about 15 - 16.2 hh (152 - 164 cm)
Unique ambling gaits called "marcha picada" and "marcha batida", no trot

Exterieur:
Head has a trapezodial shape (some say it's similar to an elk's head), convex profile
Neck is arched and muscular
Horses should be well-balanced and not exaggerated, correct anatomy can be hard to achieve

Interieur:
Very friendly, gentle horse
Uncomplicated and good for beginners
