Kurusu Kaoru x reader

Based on the otome game.

You fell down onto your bed stretching your arms and legs relaxing. The test was completed and you felt good about it. All the studying had paid off. Your mind wandered and it reminded you of studying with Kaoru.

"Ahh!" you rolled onto your side. There was no way Kaoru was interested in you especially since his thoughts were currently consumed by school and Syo. You let out a heavy sigh.

"What to do, what to do..." you mumbled to no one.

"Ring! Ring!" you sat upright, immediately your daze was broken by your phone.

"Hello?"

"(Name)-chan/kun?"

"Kaoru! What is it?"

"Can we talk?"

"Sure."

"Meet me at the pond in 15 minutes please."

"See you then," he hung up. It was a bit of a random call, but you were happy to talk to him. You dusted off your (colour) skirt and headed out.

"(Name)-chan/kun, you're early," Kaoru commented. He was sitting on a bench staring at the pond.

"So are you!"

"True, remember when I was gone before?" He paused, looking at the pond, as if searching for answers.

"I went to see Syo." You figured as much. You made a non-committal noise.

"Well he decided to take the surgery." Your eyes widened. You didn't actually think Syo would take the risk. He seemed like a risk taker, but this was a huge one. Kaoru looked up at you.

"Crazy, right? I mean he'd be leaving not only me but Haruka too while he could... could DIE! How could he?!" Kaoru's confusion was quickly turning into anger.

"Haruka was FINE with it! And then... then... Syo said I'd understand one day when I found a partner like her! What's that suppose to mean?! UGH! I'm so angry," he vented. You sympathized with Kaoru, if the surgery went wrong it would be the last of Kurusu Syo and he'd be an only sibling. It was dangerous and the odds weren't always in your favour. However, you also understood Syo's reasoning.

"Kaoru calm down. It's going to be alright."

"You're right. He'll understand and everything will be fine." You bit your lip not wanting to fight with Kaoru.

"I'm right, aren't I?" Kaoru continued. You grimace hearing the exact question you wanted to ignore.

"Both of your opinions are valid and make sense," you replied cautiously.

"What?"

"You're right Syo could die and you would be here unable to help. That would be tragic. What Syo is trying to say is it's worth the risk. If he is cured of his heart disease, he would be free and healthy without limitations. About the partner thing, I believe he was saying that Haruka helped him realize this," you answered truthfully. You did like Kaoru, but weren't about to lie to him. He stared at you, shell-shocked.

"(Name)-chan/kun?! You too?"

"Kaoru I think both you and Syo are correct. There is no right or wrong in this situation, just two different opinions."

"You sound exactly like Haruka," he seethed.

"Because I agree with her," you replied confidently.

"What happens to Syo affects me too!"

"It does, that's why Syo listened to what you had to say. In the end this is Syo's life."

"Syo is the largest part of my life!"

"Kaoru Syo is not your's! You're being too overprotective! Something's are for him to decide and him alone," you shouted, finally getting fed up.

"I thought I could count of you (Name)-chan/kun!"

"I'm trying to help you understand why Syo has chosen this." Kaoru stormed out and you were left standing there while feeling guilty. Telling one's opinion is a lot harder than it sounds. You went back to your dorm and lay down on your bed, wishing this awful feeling would wash away as you lost consciousness.

Syo decided to go to Saotome to live out his dreams rather than always being afraid about his health. Syo wanted to live a full life before he died. It sounded brave in the end, but was still tragic. Living every minute like it's your last becomes painful too. Syo wanted to live his life to the fullest without an impending deadline. He obviously loved his family especially Kaoru, Haruka, and various friends so the decision was hard for him. Kaoru and Syo chose their careers partially for the other. It wasn't a choice made on a limb and held reason.

"ARGH!" you screamed into your pillow. Why couldn't you think of this stuff to say when you were talking to Kaoru? The anger and guilt had riled you up too much. You decided to go for a jog. Maybe if you went fast enough your problems would dissipate.  After you were thoroughly tired, you headed back to the dorms. The long jog had helped you clear your mind. It had been a cold night with a constant breeze preventing you from being super sweaty. You changed, brushed your teeth, along with the other regular things you did in your night routine, and then collapsed onto your bed. You could finally go to sleep.

The next two weeks, the two of you were completely apart. No contact whatsoever. You're friends were worried about the both of you. You and Kaoru realized just how much time the two of you spent together. You had lunch together every day and met up at least four times a week after class. It hurt to be away from Kaoru, but you still believed in what you said to him. It was hard and never before had fighting for what your opinion in caused so much pain. However, you weren't to give up what you felt was right to please someone.

A few days after your fight with Kaoru you called Haruka and got her side of the story. You comforted her saying she said what she felt was right and people do fight but not forever. You really wanted that to be true. You called Haruka wanting to talk to a friend.

"Hey Haru-chan!"

"(Name)-san, how are you?"

"Okay. Anyway how is the graduation piece coming?"

"Great! Working with Syo-kun is amazing." You were glad at least things were happy for Haruka.

"I'm glad. I can't wait to watch."

"Did you get the pass to the performance I sent you?"

"Yep, they're on my desk right now."

"(Name)-san can I ask for a favour?"

"Name it."

"Could you try to get Kaoru-san to go to the performance?" You suddenly regretted your previous words.

"Ahh... Kaoru and I are not on good terms."

"Oh, is everything okay?"

"Well actually we got into a fight about Syo's decision so asking him to go watch Syo would be...bad."

"Syo-kun is worried and wants Kaoru-san to watch him perform. He believes through the music he will be able to explain to his brother his decision."

"You think it would work?"

"Music is life changing and powerful," Haruka replied with confidence. She firmly believed this.

"I'll do it."

"Are you sure (Name)-san?"

"If this will help Kaoru's relationship with Syo I'll do it. I know those two love each other and this is probably killing them."

"Good luck! Thank you so much. I have to go practice now (Name)-san."

"I'll see you at the graduation Haru-chan! Bye." You ended the call. Doubt and nervousness came rushing at you. How would you tell Kaoru? It consumed your thoughts. All throughout dinner it was all you could think of. You weren't sure if you actually ate at dinner. As you lay on your bed your homework was left untouched.

"That must have been one hell of a phone call."

"Huh!" You were startled by your roommate not even noticing when they came in.

"You were a zombie at dinner and didn't notice me when I came. I even started dancing, but nothing happened."

"Oh."

"I know you like to keep your problems to yourself, but other people can help."

"It's not so much I don't know what to do, but I'm nervous."

"Well actually eating would be helpful."

"Eating? That won't solve anythi-" You stomach made a viscous growl while your roommate smirked.

"I brought you (favourite food) and (favourite drink). Also got you (favourite candy/chocolate bar) for dessert."

"Did I ever tell you how amazing you are?"

"Not much, but that's okay. I already know I am amazing."

"Is that so?"

"Amazing squared!" You giggled at the comeback.

"Just not at comebacks."

"Take it back or I'm eating all of the food in front of you!"

"Fine, fine. You're amazing squared." You roommate smiled pleased while they handed you the food.

"You better help me with my homework later."

"Mm-kay," you replied while preparing to eat at your desk. You finished your meal which was perfect considering everything you loved was there. You slept soundly forgetting your woes.
