Description

These two are well-known, but I'm still going to give some background information.

Iron Man first appeared in Marvel's Tales of Suspense #39 in 1963. His real name is Anthony 'Tony' Stark, a genius who designed weapons for his father's company, Stark Industries. His origin has changed over the years to stay up to date, but it basically goes as follows:
While on a field test for one of his creations, he was attacked and captured by enemy combatants who sought to force him into creating weaponry for them. During the encounter Tony suffered a severe chest injury. He agrees to work for his captors, but secretly builds his first suit which keeps him alive and enables him to escape.
He decides to change his ways and use his armored suit to become the hero, Iron Man.
He has built many versions of the suit since then, but he is best known for the red and gold coloring.

The original version of DC's Green Lantern debuted in 1940, but that one was not connected to the Green Lantern Corps.
Hal Jordan, the most well-known of the Lanterns, first appeared in Showcase #22 in 1959. He was a test pilot who was chosen to become part of the Green Lantern Corps, the universe's police force. The Corps consists of countless other alien species each given a power ring which enables them to telekinetically create and control constructs of solid light. These constructs can take on any shape, limited only by the wearer's will and imagination. The ring also allows them to fly and generates a protective 'aura'-like shield.

In any fight between them, Green Lantern has the advantage of more advanced equipment as his ring is considered 'the most powerful weapon in the universe'. However the ring has at times been said to be ineffective against objects made of wood or anything colored yellow, though this is apparently no longer the case.
Iron Man's suit seems to run out of power quite often, but Green Lantern's ring's supply of energy is not unlimited either and requires a Green Lantern Power Battery to recharge.
Also the ring is linked to the will of the wearer. Hal Jordan was chosen for having an 'indomitable will', but Green Lanterns have been known to falter when doubt enters their minds.
Underneath the equipment Hal Jordan is a pilot, while Tony Stark is an engineering genius with a superhuman intellect, and that may be his greatest advantage. Give him enough time and he may build his own power ring.
