~Batman Kinect Mocap Test~

We can finally make our own cheap motion capture at home using a Kinect device plugged to a PC. This one was done in Poser Pro 2014 "Game Dev" edition, which ships with a built-in Mocap tool that works with Kinect for Windows, but here I have used the Kinect for XBOX 360 with an adapter.

In this test I was checking the following things:

* I must stand at least 2.5 yards away from Kinect, or it won't see me.
* Room lighting affects Kinect precision. Brighter places are better.
* Kinect doesn't capture any hand motions.
* Kinect doesn't register head motion very well.
* I cannot turn away from the Kinect camera (more info below).
* Kinect won't register depth very well.

Kinect manages to track your body quite well, as long as none of the body parts get obscured by another body part or furniture. If Kinect cannot see a body part, it spikes out the animation. If you point an arm or leg towards the camera, Kinect may loose track of the knee or elbow, which tends to spike out the animation too.

So for things to work out, we must be facing the Kinect camera the whole time, so don't turn around, and make sure Kinect can always see your body joints the whole time. It's easy for a hand to hide behind the body, so we have to be careful. In this animation you can see that I had to raise my hand when raising a knee, so it doesn't get hidden behind.

Character was modeled my me. Motion capture done in Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev using a Kinect device plugged to my PC. Motion was captured using Andy, and then re-targeted to my own model for data clean up and editing in Poser. Cape was simulated in Poser's Cloth Room. Hope you like it and thanks for coming by!
