Rose of Souls

“She was my world. My purpose. She… She accepted me when no one else would… She was… She was my love… My life… She gave up everything for me and I can’t even…” Fane trailed off full of grief and sorrow. Shock was an understatement as Damien watched Fane. Without thinking, Damien walked over to the bed and tore off some fabric. Fane barely noticed what Damien was doing as he continued to confess his love and misery. Tearing off a couple of more pieces of fabric, Damien tied them together as a rose. Kneeling down beside his Master, Damien took Fane’s hand, which got his attention.
“What are you doing?” Fane asked, drunk and confused.
“It’s the rose of souls” Damien replied and put the small fabric rose in Fane’s hand.
“It’s made of fabric because it will not die over time, but it is soft and vulnerable, like a soul. The fabric is torn because someone who was loved has been ripped away. It represents a loss and that as long as this rose is cared for, they will never be forgotten and they’ll never leave us. To receive a rose of souls, the one who died must be loved and the recipient humble. It’s a great honor to receive a rose of souls when someone has lost their loved one” Damien continued and looked down sadly. Fane was quiet. Even drunk, he could hear every word Damien said and fully understanding him.
“It’s a sign of devotion and should bring new hope for another bright day in the darkness of grief. It is given to mice who has accomplished great things and that has others caring for them” Damien said as he closed Fane’s hand gently around the rose.
“My mother used to say, ‘La rosa delle anime è pensato per grandi solo topi, ma fintanto che qualcuno posso amare sono pieni di grandezza. Tutti meritano una rosa nel momento del bisogno” he added and looked down as he faintly remembered his mother.
“A rose of souls is meant for great mice only, but as long as someone can love they are filled with greatness. Everyone deserves a rose in their time of need..."

I've been wanting to illustrate this scene for a VERY long time  This is a VERY rare moment between these two, considering Fane is a very abusive Master to his slave Damien. But this is just a little thank you to for making SO much Fan(e)art and stories of my little bloodsucker And I've come to love Damien like one of my own OCs so any chance to draw him makes me super excited
