What are these UF challenges?
How do challenges work and how can I participate?
Can I help promoting the challenges in some way?
What if I have an idea for a future challenge?

You can find all this information and more in the Ultra Fractal challenges FAQ, which is also part of our very first UF challenge, the one for February 2011.
If you already know the rules, then you're good to go - read on for this month's challenge!

Previous editions:

You can find all of the previous challenges in this journal. Please keep in mind that the challenge rules changed after the 26th edition!

Links to ALL UF challenges (updated periodically!)Since the UF challenges are growing in number, instead of linking them all in each new one, I thought I'd make a collection journal for all of them. This will contain all challenges held so far, from the newest (top) to the oldest (bottom), all conveniently thumbed for you! It will also be updated each month so that ALL challenges are reachable from here, even the newer ones. And this journal will of course be linked in every challenge, to keep them all connected :aww:
Here we go!

Now we can go on with the last challenge's results, and then I will introduce this month's challenge to you all.

Here is the October 2014 challenge, and the deviations I've picked as the winners!
(Please note: do not feel offended if your fractals haven't been picked. Winners are chosen basing on their way of representing the challenge theme, and I always try to be as impartial as possible while judging.)

The winner of the Formula challenge is zisgul with Aethan:

Aethan by zisgul

A beautifully crafted fractal with incredibly detailed colour schemes, high contrast and an overall interesting, dynamic shape. The waves seem to fold and melt together, as if there were ripples coming through from all directions!

The winner of the Theme challenge is jucarbi with Vampires and Ghosts:

Vampires and Ghosts by jucarbi

Getting spooky for Halloween has never been so easy! It is the very simplicity of this fractal to make it so effective, closely resembling a bat's or a vampire's face, with bloodred eyes. The sides look like wings, and the red moon completes the atmosphere.

The winner of the Style challenge is devgnoll with 141001-01a5:

141001-01a5 by devgnoll

The heavily contrasted greens and purples clash violently, contributing to the creation of an image which is both elegant and chromatically near-disruptive, but in a good way. This particular take on Barnsley fractals is fascinating and incredibly effective.

The winner of the Other challenge is ConstanceKeat with Eclectic Earth:

Eclectic Earth by ConstanceKeat

A fractal that deserves praise for its shaping alone! Regardless of the absence of the Triptych mapping, the subdivision into three distinct areas is incredibly clear, and it recreates the perfect balcony scene on an abandoned secret garden. Powerful vision, unique in countless ways!

The choice between the artworks entered was really tough this month, as there were at least twice as many with more than enough winning quality - please check them out!

We're done for October. On to November!

Challenge #46: November 2014

November's Formula challenge will be the Newton Renewal challenge!
Any fractal entering this challenge must have ALL fractal formulas that are Newton-based. You MAY NOT use Mandelbrot, Julia, Pixel, or other such fractal families - only Newton. There are no restrictions on colouring algorithms and/or mappings, but the Newton shape should still be recognisable in the finished work.

November's Theme challenge will be the Beautiful Blossoms challenge!
In honour of C-91's recent ascent to Fractal CV status, we are holding a theme challenge centered on her main style: fractal blooms! Make the most gorgeous fractal flower you can and show it to us. Simple as is!

November's Style challenge will be the Sepia challenge!
All entries to the style challenge must be sepia-coloured, like old photographs. If you're unsure what colour qualifies as sepia and what doesn't, look here or just browse deviantART for "sepia photo". Fractals may come in any shape or form, but those with the most "old style" feeling will be prized!

November's Other challenge will be the One and Only challenge!
For this challenge, you will have to select one particular formula group. It can be ANY group. However, you must ONLY use formulas from that group to make your fractal. Example: if you choose the "mt" group, your fractal formula must be from mt.ufm, your colouring algorithms (both Inside and Outside) must come from mt.ucl, and your mappings (if you use any) must come from mt.uxf. Be adventurous - we've all seen mono-Orbit Traps fractals, show us something as original as can be!

Remember: to enter each challenge, post your deviation's link and thumb in a comment of this journal, and specify which challenge you are entering the fractal in. ALSO: PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LINK THIS NEWS ARTICLE IN THE DEVIATION!

Please spread the word by advertising this news article - we definitely want more participants. The more, the merrier!

This challenge's deadline is November 30th, 2014. Ready, set, GO!!! :eager:
