This will come as a surprise, but Hercules is actually a melee physical fighter with high STR and END stats.

In a shocking ironic twist, he also has low AGI and INT.

To further blow your mind, he is skilled with grappling and throwing moves.

You never saw any of that coming huh? 

The actual surprise in Herc's play style is his special resource: oil. At the start of the round, Herc begins combat with zero oil, which slows him and makes him more vulnerable. Instead of initiating an attack, the player must mash the X button summoning servants who will grease herc up, raising his stats considerably. You cannot attack while being lubed, so there is a precarious balance between relaxing and eating grapes while being tended to, and launching stone-shattering punches. While this may seem like a disadvantage, do keep in mind that a fully greased Hercules is the most powerful attacker in the game and can punch through Gamera and Tor Johnson in one blow.

There is also a penalty for OVER-greasing herc with the oil mechanic: if he becomes inundated with oil and goes past the 100 mark, Herc will fall become so sleepy he can't keep his eyes open and sit out the entire round, allowing his opponent to wail on him mercilessly.
