Breed Standards

This page should clearly outline the standards that are to be expected within the Seccan breed. Any
questions may be commented here or noted directly to one of our staff members.

This outlines the overall build of the breed. There are two build variations of the breed (light and heavy), as well as a Wild gene that causes certain changes that can be applied to both builds. Heights are determined via which herd your Seccan resides in, so look to the herd journals for those.

Overall Build
The Seccan is a very tall breed, the absolute minimum height recorded at 15.3hh. The maximum height for a non-Wild Seccan is 18.3hh. They have compact bodies with medium length backs. The Seccan’s neck should have a slight arch to it, though not so much as to be compared to that of a Friesian or an Arabian - in the light variation this is more defined. The breed's legs are long, with large joints.

Their heads are always either straight nosed or roman - concave faces are not permitted within the breed. Seccans are omnivorous - their teeth consist of canine incisors as well as flat molars for grinding. Seccan eyes have faint or no pupils - and unnatural colors are acceptable. Eye color does not contribute to rarity.

Tails
The average Seccan will know how to use their tail as a rudder, a valuable tool to assist them while hunting quick moving prey. For this reason, the tail is typically long and thick, however, shorter versions do occasionally appear. On a heavy Seccan, the tail will have long fur all the way down it, from the base all the way to the ending tuft. A light Seccan may have a small bit of longer hair at the base, but it will not run all the way down the tail.

Feet
The feet (always very large in proportion) have five toes - three main toes and two dews that don’t touch the ground. All of the toes have individual 'frogs'. The feet are wonderful for gripping rough or uneven terrain and serve to give the breed a practical surefooted quality. The hooves are always made of some sort of metal or stone (more on the Elements page)  - normal keratin hooves are not present within the breed.

Colors and Markings
Seccans do use some normal horse genetics, but there are also several that we've made up ourselves. Please see the Colors and Genetics page.

Breed Types

This page should clearly outline the standards of the types that are to be expected within the Seccan breed. Any questions may be commented here or noted directly to one of our staff members.

Light Strain
  • Built much like a cross between the Akhal Teke, Thoroughbred, Marwari, light Friesian, and certain other types of Warmbloods.
  • Can have some light feathering at the feet, however there is no beard present.
  • There may be a moderate tuft at the base of the tail, but it does not run the entire length.
  • Excels in showjumping, cross country, western, and dressage (In HaRPG, these do not exist in the Provinces of Guerria).

Heavy Strain
  • Builds can vary; acceptable are the Lusitano, Shire, Clydesdale, Belgian Draft, and Percheron.
  • Very hairy. Typically has heavy feathering on the feet as well as a beard and hair running down the neck to the belly.
  • Longer hair runs from the top base of the tail all the way to the tuft at the end.
  • Excels in driving, pulling, dressage, cross country, and low to medium level show jumping (In HaRPG, these do not exist in the Provinces of Guerria)

Wild Strain
The wild strain is an entirely new type of Seccan, evolved from their years of entrapment inside Wildehaven and completely cannibalistic ways. While the horse's physical musculature remains the same (they can be either light or heavily built), this gene adds several changes, which are outlined below.
  • Taller than their Light and Heavy counterparts, typically by one or two hands, anywhere from 19 to 22.3hh.
  • Strictly carnivorous. Fangs jut from the lip.
  • Taller,  with longer legs.
  • Tufted ears are a defining feature.
  • Each foot holds six toes - four main and two dew that never touch the ground.
  • Very temperamental and are known to be aggressive, stallions and mares in heat are extremely difficult to control, especially when near one another.
  • Being as Wild Seccans are not allowed outside of Guerria, we won't be clarifying what sports or activities they would excel in.
