It's just been announced that The Great Movie Ride is gonna be updated by Turner Classic Movies. I don't know how to feel about this.

The Great Movie Ride is probably my favorite attraction at Hollywood Studios. This is a dark ride showcasing some of Hollywood's most classic films of all time. If you've never been on it, you don't know what you're missing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=im_IIW… It's what made the park in the first place, it's been there since opening day in 1989 & is well... great by both general Disney fans & hard-core film buffs. I mean, who hasn't felt inspired by the finale film montage?

Fans have been demanding the ride should be updated. Not by putting in modern movies (think how fine that'd turn out), just update the animatronics that are in the ride with the new Disney Parks technology, because lots of the figures are dated. The only change that's happened in the ride is updating the Wicked Witch animatronic and adding a couple films in the final montage (which is fairly easy). Aside from that's it's still the same. There was even an Inside the Magic podcast on updating the ride, whch has some creative ideas. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA681Z…

Only NOW changes are announced, but... not much is mentioned, which is uneasy. How well will Turner Classic Movies do with "fixing" the ride? The only change mentioned in here is just the waiting area & the final montage to feature old Disney TV shows & stuff... but what about the ride itself? Are they gonna secretly update all the ride to feature ONLY Disney films? They better not! 'Cause if they do, this'll be me: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyltK6…

What do you guys think of this update? Should this be something to be thankful for or not?

I don't think we have any reason to worry. GMR will still focus on vintage classic films from all companies like it already does. Disney's just forming a partnership with TCM for them to sponsor the ride, due to that channel being dedicated to showing classic films.

They will not be changing the ride to Disney films-only. That's part of why TCM is coming aboard.

Another great thing that's coming out of this deal is that a new programming block showing classic Disney films, TV shows and cartoons (which haven't been easy to see on TV since Disney Channel eliminated the Vault Disney block back in 2002) will start airing periodically on the TCM channel, with the first broadcast of that block currently scheduled to air on December 21st.
