AFI's 100 Songs: #100, Old Time Rock n Roll

Description

The American Film Institute, or the AFI for short, is notorious for celebrating anything regarding films and movies. One thing they’re known for is their 100 Years Series. These are a series of lists that were made from 1998 to 2008, highlighting the best of the best of films’ categories. Aside from their best movies lists (one released in 1998, updated in 2007), they’ve done the laughs, the thrills, the passions, the heroes/villains, the songs, the quotes, the music scores, the cheers, the musicals and the top 10 10 sub-categoriesBecause of their multiple recognitions, I decided to highlight their recognitions with MY style of recognition; AKA, drawing some of their lists. I’m not planning on doing all their lists, just the ones I feel interested in drawing. I have plans for drawing their updated 100 movies, heroes & villains, quotes and, what we’re gonna do first, songs. So we’ll be starting with that.
When I upload them, it’ll go the same way like the
“100 Days Until the Muppets”, going backwards from 100 to 1. I’ll post the picture, give my opinion on the song & on the drawing itself. Some of the movies I’ve heard of, but never seen… yet. Some movies that I’ve seen more will have more knowledge to my opinion. It won’t be a going day-by-day, like how I did the Little Mermaid 50 Day Challenge. A couple might be uploaded in one day, some might be uploaded a couple days later; overall, it won’t be posted consistently.

Before we get started, here’s a little “just so you’ll know” that I feel like I have to address.
When I started this, it was back when I used to cram everything onto one page. Nowadays when I look back on them, I find they look too tight, cluttered & not thought out when planning. Now I do my drawing process like this: I draw separate “elements” onto different pages and then put them together onto one big picture. I find that more professional, since that’s how animation companies do it (at least in hand-drawn animation). Plus it gives the picture more depth. It all depends on how “big” the picture’s gonna be or how much the picture has going on. You’ll probably be able to distinguish which one’s which as we go along.

With that out of the way, let’s finally get started with…

100.
“Old Time Rock n’ Roll” from Risky Business (1983)

Who HASN’T thought of doing this when no one else is home? The scene’s totally hysterical. I’ve seen it been parodied lots of times. The ones I remember most is from
The Simpsons episode “Homer the Heretic” & when Niles did it from The Nanny. The song seems fitting for anyone willing to feel nostalgic for the good ol’ days. As for its placement on the list, I don’t think it should be on the list. Like I said, the scene itself’s hysterical & the song’s pretty good, but the film doesn’t do the full song and the scene’s pretty short. I’m not saying each song on the list should be original and do the 3-to-5-minute-length, but… I just feel it’s misplaced here. You get what I’m saying? Pretty bad when I find a flaw with the list when we’re starting from the bottom.

For the drawing, I find the background was drawn better than Cruise himself. Backgrounds aren’t my strongest point; even now, I’m still learning & doing the best I can. But for this, it’s not half bad. This is probably my first
GOOD background in this series! I particularly like how the main arch, the rug and the stairs turned out. But like I said above, Tom Cruise I could’ve drawn better, but like I said in the “prologue”, this was back when I crammed everything onto one page.
